Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

noob question, which i'm sure has been answered a million times over, but you guys are a more amusing resource: roughly how much does primary app submission cost per school? i'm narrowing down my list prior to designating schools on my app, and i don't want to be unpleasantly surprised.

160 for the first one, 33 for each subsequent school

EDIT: First top for me in a while

Well it shows you at the bottom what your grand total is each time you add a school..

awesome, thank you. i was expecting worse. i'm just going to ignore the prospect of secondaries for now 🙂

I went on a bike ride but got tired and hot so now I'm posting from my phone on the side of the trail. I shod really win a wannabe gunner award.

honestly, that's trying too hard. i'll venture a guess and say you don't have at&t?

i figured that. i'm just not in a position to edit my application currently, and my curiosity demanded satisfaction

It's easier to post than it is to get back on my bike. And I have Verizon hence why the network is fast enough to actually do stuff on my phone.

No prob. I hope you have a credit card 🙂.

Regrettably, I do not. I've always prided myself on keeping my expenses within budget. That said, however, I HAVE cached a small collection of unopened envelopes from credit companies that I presume contain card offers. Methinks these may now be useful... hrmm....what's the turn-around time on a credit card application?

lolz

... but it's easier to not post AND to not get on your bike than it is to do either of the above 😱

Me too. Everyone's been talking about serious stuff, like AMCAS. I've no idea why that matters, of all things.

I'm pushing back my deadline for AMCAS submission to next Thursday***.

It doesn't. It's just a hot mess and you should probably withdraw immediately, especially if applying to any of the following schools: Stanford, Northwestern, Ohio State, Virginia, Dartmouth, USC, Boston, Wake Forest, St. Louis, Georgetown, Indiana, Creighton, Loyola, Kansas, GWU, or Louisville.

That is my final list 😀

omg gunner.

GTFO.

Hey, why not have some reaches? You gotta figure there will be SOMEONE out there less qualified than you who ends up at each of those schools.

Yeah, there's always some random person with a 15 or something who ends up at one of those schools. Makes you wonder what they had to do to get in...

Rescue test-takers from a burning building during the course of said MCAT.

... and you know, this is the one time in my life I kinda sorta wished I was from Texas 😉

Or Florida 😀. Texans do have Baylor though with ridiculously cheap tuition.

Mmm. Texas residency. Other states (mainly California) can suck it!

UVA and Dartmouth are tough too.

I keep forgetting that UVa has a really good medical school. That's okay. Virginia is boring anyways.

For future reference, I listed all those schools (in decreasing order) by LizzyM score. This should put to rest any future debates regarding prestige.

Sigh.

I knew I should have won that Nobel Prize my freshman year. It would make things so much easier.

Talk about perfect timing, my letters were just uploaded!

Baylor, UTH, UTSW, UTSA, UTMB, Tech-El Paso, Tech-Lubbock, TCOM, A&M.... so sexy.

Eh. I'm not crazy about the state. Sorry 😳. When I went to Dallas it was as hot as Florida, but not nearly as nice. Yea, I said it 😉. I also don't know much about Texas schools beyond the fact Baylor, UTH, and UTSW are all good. I looked at going to Rice for undergrad.

A 100-degree day is Orlando is pure hell. That is all.

No hard feelings. When it's 100 degrees in the shade, the appeal kind of wears out on me, too

But still...

You just earned extra Lazy Gunner points. 😀

More like WHO they had to do.

you didn't win a nobel prize freshman year? LOLZ, NOOOOOB

Psh. Amateur.

:meanie:

From another thread:
I love the volunteer work I do right now (I help make dinner at a homeless shelter) and I'd totally do it even if I didn't put it on my app. I've done volunteering here and there that I didn't even bother putting on my app...I just did it because I wanted to. The key is to find the right volunteer project. I did hospital volunteering and wanted to kill myself, it was so mind-numbing.

Why must you tempt me with this troll bait...

 it's true. It was 98 yesterday, and with plenty of humidity. For some reason the news never reports the actual temperature. I think they don't want to scare the tourists. Every time I go to an amusement park here the people look surprised by how hot it is...

I think I'm going to apply to Vandy. I've had a change of heart. What's another $33 when I love the school so much?

Do it! $33 isn't all that much in the long run. Having done your UG there means they'll likely give your application extra consideration!

I hate humidity. Hate it. DC summers were so awful I moved back to Colorado. It's too bad there's only one state school here. I'm not entirely sure I could handle the weather anywhere else. Though I am applying to USC, I could definitely handle Cali weather.

Yea, Vandy undergrads are given a preference. The reason I was unsure though was because 200 (basically every VU undergrad) applied last year, and many with super high stats. I was thinking this would make the school preference a wash out.

California by far has the best weather. I was in San Diego last August and it was 70 degrees and sunny. I didn't know summers like that existed.

Edit: Also, Vanderbilt screens heavily, so secondary=interview.

Well best of luck. 🙂 I hope you get a secondary/interview!

I'm pretty partial to weather in Colorado. I think if you like seasons, the weather here is the best anywhere. I need to have some snow in my life. By the time September rolls around, I'm ready for some blizzards.

Thank you 🙂

I'd only seen snow once until I was at Vanderbilt. I love the cold, and look forward to it every Fall semester. Is Colorado your first choice for med school then? I almost applied since their stats were similar to mine (minus GPA as always 😉), and I thought I'd like the climate.

From me, this statement
Elicits great concurrence.
Snow is beautiful.

Hizzah, 'tis Friday!
Insouciantly I skip
Away from my work.

Thank you 🙂

Yep, it's absolutely my first choice. Nearly all my family lives here, they have a beautiful brand new campus (even if it's in the ghetto), and they're in the top 5 for primary care. Plus Winter Park is only two hours away. You should apply!

Three foot high snow means
I get to build a snow fort
And scare the neighbors

Southern CA weather is good... the traffic? Not so much. 😛

anyone know a school that screens heavily before secondaries?

Someone said U o M does.. I want to apply to a reach school that heavily screens just to see if I can get a secondary, that would definitely give me a confidence boost 🙂

VandyMed just said on the last page that Vanderbilt screens heavily. I'd love to know of others, too.

yeah I don't think I would go to vanderbilt, my GPA is too low.

I am right at the edge for UoM both GPA/MCAT
