You HAVE to get deep dish pizza. Gino's east is amazing, Lou Malnatis is good too. My favorite is Giordanos but theyre going bankrupt so I don't know if they'll be open.
If you want to do touristy things, definitely go to Sears tower (I will never call it the Willis tower), Millennium Park and Michigan Ave. The museums are also amazing (Field museum, Museum of Science and Industry). You could also hit up the Shedd aquarium and Navy Pier.
I personally am a huge Cubs fan so I would go to Wrigley and see a game. The ballpark is historic as well.
If you like improv, definitely hit up some of the numerous improv clubs. Second City is the most famous, notable alumni including Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and pretty much anyone who has been on SNL.
If you're there end of June to beginning of July, you should hit up the Taste of Chicago. You can buy tickets and exchange them for portions of food from vendors all around the city. They also have good music depending on the day, and fireworks.
And there's just soooooo many amazing restaurants!
I can go on and on and on haha. Most of this is mainstream stuff, but probably what you would go to on your first trip there. Let me know if you want more!
Wow seems like a lot of stuff to do. What about the nightlife? Any good bars/clubs? The only time I've been to Chicago was when I was in high school (I have family there so its definitely on my list of areas to apply) but it was during the winter and me + snow =so I don't know if I'd go there over any Cali schools (if I were to be so lucky).
Wow, sounds good! I'm thinking maybe 4 days/3 nights, so I'll probably only have time to do the really obvious stuff. Pizza is a given. I've had New York, so we'll see how Chicago stacks up
Thanks! I've heard Loyola has a beautiful campus.

Hey, the obvious stuff is obvious for a reason 🙂 Can't go wrong with it!
Love the avatar. Sucks we lost tonight, but we'll still take the series!
Good luck!Congrats on finishing Ochem2. 👍
I look forward to removing that weight from my shoulders tomorrow.
Congrats on finishing Ochem2. 👍

Only a few more days until AMCAS opens!!!
Pequods >>>>>>>>> *
That crust is a perfect combination of caramelized cheese and crack.
http://www.pequodspizza.com/
There's also the Chosen Few picnic + boat cruise July 9th for those that love house music. 🙂
Kuma's Corner is also good if you're jonesin' for a burger, but don't go there on a weekend because no way in hell would I wait hours for a burger.
Can't believe I've never had Pequods...heard A LOT of great things about it.
Seems like c/o 2016 is going to be known for great taste in food![]()
I always find it weird how everyone in their 3rd/4th years are taking orgo. At the UCs its a 2nd year class taken alongside the death that is biochem and molecular biology. Definitely a weeder course. Of course, I took O-Chem at a CC before transferring but O-chem is O-chem no matter where you go 😛
I am such a foodie, its ridiculous. I wouldn't be able to stand to go to a med school in a city without good food. Its a requirement!😀
Eh. Intro Bio (molecular) and Gen Chem are the weeders here, so most people that make it through their first year stick with it. O-Chem here is more manageable than other places, but it's definitely hard to get more than one std. dev. above the mean. It's all 2nd/3rd year students.
In that case, wouldn't it be "orga"? I had only heard o-chem until I came to this site.Same with my school. Sad that intro bio and chem have to be weed-outs, but I suppose not everyone is cut out for the pre-med life. I still find it super weird people elsewhere call the class 'O-Chem' because I've been conditioned to 'Orgo'

haha yeah orgo is definitely a chicago thing. Here though people call it ochem and that's what I've gotten used to it. Ochem is definitely a soph year class for us. Junior is physics usually and biochem

or you can lovingly call it orgy.. no? no..
lol
The same here.# professors have agreed to write me a paper and send them to my pre-med committee.. so I'm done worrying about the letters.. my 3100 character PS will stay as it is because that's all I can do and I've given up.. so as far the application cycle is concerned, I'M READY FOR IT!!!!
2 finals left - 2 A's already received.
I really wanna push my MCAT back
I really wanna push my MCAT back
Talk through it. When I wanted to push mine back, it helped to list the pro's and con's. If you list them, I'm sure we would all love to help in any way we can!
my problem is I haven't studied in about ~3wks due to school winding plus finals, and I'm signed up for the may 26th date....I really want to review but there is no time...
edit: problem is I'm doing research at Hopkins neurosurgery this summer starting June until August
yeah it might be advantageous to push it back. Unfortunately, June 16th seems to be out almost EVERYWHERE. Unless you want to go to Guam 🙂
I might just take it, I'm pretty confident in myself at this point (maybe I shouldnt be?) BS and VR don't worry me and I've been grinding out PS like crazy the past 2months......I just feel "out of the loop" MCAT studying wise and it's a weird feeling....I'll take another AAMC right after finals and see how I do I guess

People at my school call it orgo and when they do, I frown upon them and say it o-chem.

Wish I was in your boat for the application process...I'm freaking that I still haven't gotten all my LORs and I'm not even close to solidifying my PS draft.
God damn, I have missed a lot. Guess the party started without me 🙁
I need to get my transcripts in order.
I see a lot of you are gearing up for finals or finishing finals--GOOD LUCK GUYS! finish with a bang, and I hope we all go in with a positive outlook.
As for the ochem/orgo debate, I for one have always said ochem. I remember there being an SDN discussion a while back where there was a regional debate on ochem and orgo. I think west coast prefers ochem and east coast prefers orgo?
Lastly, yay for foodies! I hope to grab a bite with all of y'all once the interview season starts 🙂
Omg, done with "orgy" FOREVER. Sure, the final probably wrecked my A but I don't even care. Now to avoid a similar disaster with physics tomorrow.
to everyone else!
Congratulations!.. It must be a big relief, isn't it?Omg, done with "orgy" FOREVER. Sure, the final probably wrecked my A but I don't even care. Now to avoid a similar disaster with physics tomorrow.

good luck I got endocrinology and shakespeare tomorrow and advanced anatomy fri.
Congratulations!.. It must be a big relief, isn't it?
Also, from your title, I assume you're a fellow Trojan?
Don't be me! Losing the A after 4 months of hard work is depressing. Stupid cumulative orgo finals...
High five. I'm in the same boat....conformation..
Shakespeare was a hard upper division class at my school. I wanted to take it, but I wasn't going to get another B in an English class (Stupid British Lit... haha)I enjoy Shakespeare, easy class and my only non science class.....plus it kind of helps for VR...maybe?

Anyone else getting transcripts taken care of tomorrow?
I hear you, must be infuriating. Damn professor had our final weighted to 1/3 of our overall grade. We'll see tomorrow if I held onto the A or not. 😱
Class breakdown: 3 exams and one final (worth two exams).
Went into final with A-, got 5% above average on final, ended with a final semester grade of....... B

Good luck to everyone on finals!
This year, I didn't have any thanks to the grad degree 🙂 Was done April 21st! 😀
Okay please dont kill me....
Sorry, dude. That happened to me once and I was extremely pissed. Only time I tried to grade-grub, which didn't even work. 🙄
