Has anyone considered getting a dog or cat in med school? I've always wanted a dog when I got my own place, but I feel like I wouldn't have enough time to run home to feed/let out a dog, especially as a 3rd year. A cat would be easier, but my family has never had cats before so idk. Thoughts?

I have a cat and I wouldn't know what to do without him. He's my buddy. We snuggle on the couch while I study, or he goes and does his own thing. Plus he is very easy to take care of, give him a scoop of food in the morning and at night, a few mouse toys and he's good to go!

That's what I like about cats-- they can go off and do their own thing all day, but will still love you when you get home 🙂 I've always been a dog person, but for the sake of being easy to care for, I might end up getting a cat. Though I was severely allergic to cats as a kid, and don't go around them much now, so I'd have to see if I had any problems being around them long-term.

Yeah, I had a dog growing up and he passed away a few years ago. He was such a good dog. His name was Spuds after the Spuds Mckenzie beer commercial dog - prolly too old for most of you to remember!

I had a couple dogs growing up, one we had to put down (she had really bad degenerative disc disease, within a week she went from fine to her whole back half being paralyzed 🙁 ) and the other we'll be putting down any time now.

Hugs to those of you who have lost pets. 🙁 I've had cats ever since I was born, and we have lost several--some have run away and some have had to be put down. We didn't get a dog til I was a freshman in college, and she's only 7 now. She's the love of my life, I don't know what I'll do when she passes away. Be a blubbering mess for several months, I imagine. 🙁


There were the cutest six-week-old boxer puppies at work yesterday that one of the tele techs brought in. I pretty much died from cute. 😍

Poor kitties. I remember bawling my eyes out when we had to put down 2 of our cats. Sad day : (. I dont know what ill do when our two current pets are put down
