Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got verified a couple of days ago, so now I'm being marked as complete at some places. Waiting is going to drive me up a wall.

How's med school?

Started second year on Monday. It's not so bad. So far the material is better than first year. Or at least I can focus on it better. I'm dreading having grades this year, but I'm sure I'll survive. The new first years are all cute starting their classes and such. Student orgs are taking over my life right now since we have to get everything all ready for the year. But I love the orgs I'm in/running so I don't mind. It's a nice release from lecture-type stuff.

We did get homework today. Lame. Gotta write an H&P from someone's SP video which will be interesting. Interviewing a patient yourself is so much different than watching someone else do it.

Piece of advice in picking a school when the time comes: P/F is the best thing ever.

Don't you have med school things to attend to? :meanie:

Or is the concept of the "busy medical student" just a myth perpetuated by the medical establishment?

If you're talking to a first year at a P/F school, it's definitely a myth. I had so much free time last year I had no idea what to do with myself. Today, I just stayed at school til 6 to go over some lecture stuff and now that I'm home, I'm not gonna study anymore. As long as you stay on top of your stuff, med school really isn't that bad.

That's what I've heard as well although Step I studying puts a dent in things. :scared:

I thought WashU was P/F for the first two years. 😱

Which organizations are you participating in?

Will do.

You were doing research this past summer, right? Will you be continuing your research this year?

Alas. It is not. 🙁

Which organizations are you participating in?

The ones I'm super involved in are AMWA (American Medical Women's Association), Cori Society (our equivalent of houses), MedBall (planning med school prom), and the school musical. The musical is my favorite by far. Last year's show was so much fun, and I'm producing the show this year. Auditions in 3 weeks. Yay!!!

I'll go in a few hours a week. But I won't have time to dedicate a lot to the lab. That is unless I want to go crazy. I'm gonna miss it though.

Yep, I'm in Temple. It was 105 degrees outside earlier today 😱

Thats how hot Houston has been the last visits i made there. come friday back to the heat thank god

i havent been in a little over 4 years which was for a jazz competition

Why oh why does WashU do this? 🙁

It makes me sad.

P/F is something that I am focusing on when it comes down to where I will go. I need to get in first though!

Not for me, that falls pretty far down the priority list. I figure I will probably bust my butt in my pre-clinical years regardless of grading scheme (if not simply for a solid Step 1 foundation). Additionally, since pre-clinical grades are never terribly important to PDs it's not a big issue to me.

I heard that the first two years of med school don't really weigh too heavily for residencies anyways (at least compared to clinicals / Step I)

It shouldn't be your focus but it is definitely an awesome perk. Not having to worry about grades or rank makes your class much happier as a whole.

I'm at work. No Facebook. 🙁 And no boob pics!

Me too! My state school is, so that's all the more reason for me to hope to get in.

I know that a lot of my schools are, but not all. That may be the deciding factor if I get into multiple schools...not that that is a likely scenario.

Um... Your numbers are MUCH better than mine, I wouldn't doubt yourself so much.

Funny when I made my decision the school I actually chose was traditional grading and ranked and a month before we started they got rid of it 🙂 I didn't think it was such a big deal until this week (before our first major exam).

This is exactly why. Moreso I want the time to workout. Sleep is less important to me.

I agree, I can't do more than 5 hours at a time of studying before I have to go for a run bc I'm ADD like woah.

I'm a neurotic SDNer like everyone else, I'll never think I'm good enough lol. And lucky you that the grade system changed right before you started!

A funny one eh

Only if you want it to. You'd be really really in shape if you went for a run after every 30 minutes of studying though. 😱

I'm not quite that motivated. More like check SDN every thirty minutes.

Before SDN I lived in ad little cocoon of ignorance thinking I was a shoe-in for med schools with a mid 30s MCAT.

Then there's no hope for me 🙁🙁

Sad unintentional top 🙁

and drink, don't forget the drinking.

Or is that just me?

Oh it's not just you. Most schools have post exam parties. I have classmates who drink while they study, not necessarily my style but whatever works.
