Count of Monte Cristo FOR THE WIN!

Its such an epic book. Im rereading it again for like the 5th time before my first interview. That way i can answer what was the last thing i read. Ill actually remember. The book i read before this was way back in march.

Death on the Nile. Good read. Just too long ago to remember it all

OMG Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite book too! That and the hopeless romantic in me loves Pride and Prejudice.

Wuthering Heights was torture for some reason. Jane Eyre's where it's at.

Or P&P&Zombies. Def better read than the original.

The other sister? :scared:

Looking back on the books i had to read in high school, they really took out the fun of reading them...

I remember hating most of them , then we i reread them best thing ever.

Hey, don't knock the other sister! She had her one good book, let's just leave it at that.
Yeah, I absolutely HATED Cold Mountain. But I liked the movie version?

Don't forget DOs! They get angry...

Although I want to go to MD school, I think I will fork out the money for OMM course at HMS.

Cuz sometimes you just need somebody with the human touch...

:smack: I was thinking "medical doctor" in my head as opposed to medical technician, etc. and only listed M.D. as a result. I apologize to any future D.O.'s 🙂

Whats everyone's favorite book?

Ill go first, Mine is either Count of Monte Cristo or Les Mis.

That is a really hard question. I'm a Harry Potter fan. I really like The Giver, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Pillars of the Earth, Rebecca, Jane Eyre, Ender's Game, The Book Thief....

I like books that are really interesting "people" stories. Like the characters are well-developed, and you can see their emotional struggles and how they change as a person.

Snooki!
I mean...crap... jk. Never.

Wow, I'd forgotten how awesome that book is. They were supposed to make a movie but it always fell through.

Speaking of! Yann Martel. Life of Pi.
Boom. Roasted.

Rebecca was a little too much on the whiny side for me...the Narrator really needed to grow some stones. "Oh, he doesn't love me! Oh, I'm not as good as Rebecca! Oh, everyone hates me!" Please.

you just described most female narrators before the emergence of female independence in novels. Granted most of these cases the author was male. A Dolls House sticks out lol

I found The Life of Pi really boring.

The Brothers Karamazov is the greatest book I have ever read. And I have many leather-bound books.

Another classic. Loved the Crime and Punishment too.

edit: I actually liked Old Man and the Sea...

I really liked being able to see her emotional struggle, because I'm sure I would've felt the same if in her situation. I don't always like reading books with some kick-ass protagonist. I like a little realism every once in a while.

Crap. Well, I guess they're using the whole "better verbal = better doctor" approach...

Ugh, I'm STILL pissed about my verbal score. That was always my strongest subsection, and ended up being the lowest on my actual test. Grrrr.

I loved Old Man and the Sea! The first time I read it. Then 10th grade English killed it for me. "But what do the lions on the beach MEAN??"--my English teacher

Crime and Punishment was good! I really liked Anna Karenina...so bleak.

Is this why you like Harry Potter? He's the most flaccid "hero" in "literature."

 I never thought about that. Probably. I think I identify with that type of protagonist since I myself would never be described as "kick-ass." I'm way too laid back.

I only read it once, which was in eight grade. My favorite book that year. Def not red badge of courage

This happened to me too. 🙁

It really is a whole lot about luck on the day.

The first time I sat for the MCAT... the verbal seemed fairish. I was happy with it. Got 11.

The second time... almost considered voiding... that bad. Just based on verbal alone. It was seriously rough. Then got a 12?

Explain the logic there?

Lord of the Flies

I have never read that. Its a book that I almost buy every time i go to the bookstore but always get something else. For example last time I got the Metamorphosis by Ovid.

I liked Heart of Darkness. People say I'm crazy. I prefer the term unconventional.

THANK YOU. I loved reading it senior year. My friends complained it had too much detail, but it was one of those book you could close your eyes and imagine everything.

THAT one was awful. I read Lord of the Flies in 8th grade. By far the best book of middle school, and it wasn't even in the curriculum. 🙁

Ah, good catch. I see we have a fellow Jacob lover in the house 😉

Nah, I can't stand the series. Forced to read it my senior year of high school by a really good friend who strongly recommended them, and "knew I'd love them." And yet I stil manage to see the movies about 5 times when they come of on DVD (sorority girls and shared TVs...not good) 😀

I, for one, love to read with eyes closed. JK, I getcha. For me descriptive power is as much an art as is weaving an interesting story.

What up Corneas?

Is this a one-time spamfest, or should we expect to see you trolling around these parts in the future?

My friend recommended them to me as well. Told me to "read beyond the awkward writing and focus on the story." I couldn't get pass the bad writing and stopped at Chapter 2.

Haha, yes, I could sense your animosity. I can't stand twilight. My little sister is bananas about it and it creeps me out. I've seen the movies too. I'm ashamed to admit it. I'm a dude 🙁
