Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
HP for adults?

Also, how's that app coming?

It's coming along. Editing my PS based on some comments. I think I will write a "hobbies" activity, and list a friend (since my hobbies are things like baking, drawing, knitting, photography, reading, etc.)

I hope to submit by the end of today, but it makes me nervous.

To those of you who haven't taken the AMCAS plunge yet...

DO ITTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's all... now I'm off to play a round of golf.

I might submit today... I'm just scared.

I suck at golf. I took that was my health elective in college, and I still suck. My instructor actually told me that he has never seen someone swing so well but consistently miss the ball...

Just know that after you go through all of the submission checklists, you should be prompted to print out a paper copy of your AMCAS application before you OFFICIALLY submit. So it does give you one more opportunity to look things over and make sure everything's in order.

That's good to know. I think I should print it to a pdf first, look over everything, then go to submit. I can just see myself catching a typo right after I submit.

The application is so expensive 🙁

I will get there!

I know 🙁 That's why I want to narrow down my list.

Anyone wanna help me narrow this down? Or add ones that I should apply to? I'd like to narrow it to 15ish. The highlighted ones were the schools I was thinking of apply to.

Edit: I have a 4.0 and a 29, btw.

West Virginia has a regional bias, so the % OOS interviewed is a bit deceptive. I would probably remove it unless you have ties to the region.

GWU receives so many apps (~11k last cycle) that it's pretty easy to get lost in the shuffle. Probably not worth making the cut.

Thanks! I didn't know WV had a regional bias. And yeah, I was concerned about the volume of apps GWU receives.

Also, I know I suggested LSU, but since they're just opening up OOS slots this year, it's pretty hard to tell how they'll go about reviewing OOS apps, so it may not be worth the risk if you don't want to apply to too many places.

And I'm right on top of you at #7 :meanie:

We both got a long way to go to get into the top 5 🙁

Yeah, I wasn't sure either. They might get flooded with OOS apps, or there might be very few. Hard to tell.

Do you have any family there, that might help. I really want to apply to LSU Shreveport because I have family in Monroe, but they're completely IS. Here's hoping I can convince LSU-NO to bring me in. Plus LSU football 🙂

LSU sucks. The SEC sucks.

GTFO.

Yeah, I have relatives in Slidell (which is about 30 miles from New Orleans).

Lol, u mad bro?

I ain't even mad.

Hmm, on second thought, if you have regional ties, it might be worth a shot.

Lots of waffling going on. 🙁

I kind of forgot I had an aunt and uncle that live there.... we never go there to visit, they always come up here.

Too many pages to read through, but I hope everyone had a good night/morning. 😀

I really need to bust out some secondaries today...

This. Sorry brah. I only watch LSU games to see the Mad Hatter make a comeback and see Jordan Jefferson make a fool of himself as a QB. I used to watch it for patrick peterson but nao he gone.

Random post, but I just wanted to say that all the Futurama in this thread makes me so warm and fuzzy inside! I just got hooked on Futurama just this summer (thanks Netflix) and I love seeing all the sweet avatars and videos in this thread.

Thanks all! 👍:hardy:

I agree with WYS about GWU. The secondary costs $125, and it is very inconvenient to submit. You have to type out your essays on the PDF file, print it out, sign it by hand, and then finally either send a hard copy to GWU through snail mail, or scan and e-mail/fax it to GWU. If you read the school-specific thread, you'll see that most SDN'ers (including myself, and my stats are higher than yours) have had our applications put on hold for re-review...which will likely become a rejection in the Fall. Knowing how many applications they receive, I realize now that it wasn't worth it 🙁.

Thanks for the info! I probably would not have gone through all that hassle with the secondary and stuff.

Also, I think.... I am ready to submit. :scared:

I would hate to meet the person that doesn't get warm fuzzies from watching Futurama :scared:

I second (third?) this impression. I got put on hold too; I have a feeling they'll reject me because they don't think I would attend if accepted (my starts are above their average; GPA close to yours, Buttermellow).

If you have the money and time to do whatever with, or if you REALLY want to live in DC, I recommend applying. But otherwise, idunno. This is an example of a school that really should screen applicants before secondaries, since it seems as though they do it anyway once you've paid them.

Remember, people still get acceptances from GWU otherwise there would be no class...I personally would love to be one of those students and am doing what I can to make it so. It is a great school, but just because it is competitive doesn't mean one should not apply. This is medical school. It is going to be difficult to get in one way or another.

Yeah, to be honest I wasn't the best fit for that school. I didn't demonstrate an interest in international health/health policy to the degree that I should have in my secondary app. If your strengths are in that area and you can talk about it in detail, then go ahead and keep it on your school list Buttermellow.

Nope, they definitely aren't. I think I'll take it off my list. I've never even been to the east coast, much less DC.

What do you guys think medical schools do with the secondary fees that they collect? Random thought.
