Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I feel so ambivalent right now. Just got back a 28 on the MCAT.

Don't really want to go through that again. Ever.

I've got a pretty high GPA (3.93). Hopefully someone will bite.

I know how you feel (4.0, 29).

Look at the quote in your sig... Your GPA is awesome, the MCAT is above average. Now, if you think you're up to re-taking, do it to it.

You can do this!!!

What were your practice tests like? Do you think it was a fluke?

Yea I would love to stay in state. If i had to choose an end all end all school to end up with I would be super content with either A&M,UT-Southwest,UTHouston,Baylor, or UT San Antonio. As you can see i want to stay home. But if i end up out state by some chance of god, bring it.

Read: If I stay in Texas I'll be super content

 That quote is one of the things that keeps me going!

I don't think I can go through that again. Not the test itself, but the prep work and wait afterward. Definitely not a fluke imo. Spread was 8 ps (2 lower than practice avg) 11 vr (1 higher) 9 bs (dead on). More like I didn't have enough time to study. I was so damn busy with spring semester and work and living so far away from school that I didn't have time to study, so I got in a good 5 weeks of 4-5 hours a day.

Well.. indicate a new test date on your AMCAS... drop everything. And study for the MCAT like it's your job. This is your future... not just some stupid test for some stupid course at school.

That's the thing - I don't have the time. I've got summer school til the end of July, and fall start in mid August. The time in between I need to fill up on volunteer hours. That is one of the things that worries me is that I have 2 (count them, 2) hours of hospital volunteer work (big issues scheduling with hospital)

What I have going for me: I've got 100 hours of shadowing, 2 years of being a research assistant (i.e. no pubs or anything like that), president of our pre-med group (which involves some extra volunteer work at Relay for Life and yearly health fair), and a decent background story (high school straight to work force, never dreamed of college until almost 21, etc).

I also have at least 4 strong LORs (pre-med advisor, chemistry dept chair, biology research professor, and doctor I'm shadowing). Could get more if need be, but probably would be overkill.

I honestly don't mind where I go to med school (as long as it's MD). Our state school has a matriculate average of 27...so I should be good with early decision.

Nope. Not bad at all. Thankfully I've only had 2 PIs... makes it easy.

I have 0 letters from my PI. lolpwnt

I only have one PI, but he wanted me to draft the letter for him. I felt too lazy to do it. 😳

I thought about SLU but the stats are too good. And WashU is waaaay out of my league.

I remember looking at WashU's stats and laughing uncontrollably. If I really had money burning a hole in my pocket...maybe I would have applied there.

Ideally a high GPA and a high MCAT = scholarships...

I doubt I'd get any scholarships with my GPA... but WHATEVERRRRR... we're all gonna be DOCTORS!

Listen to this man. 👍

Pretty much. Ill live in el paso and lubbock if i have to. Lubbock Co-Eds can keep me company

I don't think I'll do the Tech secondary. I just don't know if I can stand the idea of hanging out in Lubbock or El Paso for the next 4 years of my life.

Also, I wish A&M had an on-site teaching hospital... but beggars can't be choosers

At A&M you can be a chooser!

Either do 3rd and 4th year in temple, cs/bryan, round rock, houston, or dallas.

I just copied my SW secondary for Tech. no joke. their campus is one of the "better" campuses in the state surprisingly.

EDP or bust.... if bust... gap year. Not so bad.

Definitely. Worst case scenario would be I get a year-full of post-bac research, more time to study and retake the MCAT, and not be so pressured all-around.

You could always ask....

Never talked to the PI in my previous lab.

The PI in my current lab is semi-retired, and half the time I wonder if they even come on campus anymore.

So yes, I could ask for a LOR (and I'm sure they would provide one), but I have my doubts about the quality of the recommendation

This is my situation with 2/4 of my PI's. At least out of one of those bad 2 i got a pub out. blah

I still laugh uncontrollably every time I see them.

Ever hear of a thing called Raider Rash?

No thanks :meanie:

Nah. Thats a rumor the bears started. There's a reason waco has the highest STD rate per capita in texas

Lubbock has one of the lowest

All that, and the folks from Baylor still have a "holier than thou" attitude. Figures.

It's just ridiculous. It's not like it's going to make them better doctors.

You're mistaken. One's MCAT and GPA completely determine one's competence as a physician. None of this touchy-feely communication bullspit.

😏

Waco was a city that just did not sit well with me when i visited for college visits or when for games. Don't know how Nick did it

Wait, we have to communicate with other people. In real life?

maubs, the 2015 thread has been pretty quiet lately. Does it feel like the end of an era?

.... We do? I thought everything was going to be online now. I was just going to Skype with my patients.

Heh, as a suburbanite, I clump Waco and College Station together. Honestly, the only knowledge I have of either place is that I can drive through town in about 5 minutes

College Station is like houston compared to waco. its one of the sketchiest cities in central texas. at least CS you dont get your car broken into. i got mugged in waco freshmen year 😡

I'm not even sure why Waco exists to begin with.

None. We'd pee behind the bushes.
