Teachers here get royally 'effed sometimes. As do students depending on their school. In Texas there are either great high schools or mediocre ones. Not really any inbetween. big disparity. Thank you zoning regions...

Its the best state. Even if it has its problems, it has a rich cultural mix of many different people since the large cities(Austin,San Antonio, Dallas, Houston) are hubs of business and art. There is never a dull moment these cities.

Just submitted USC's secondary! This was the most fun to complete by far. 😀 If they give me an interview I will probably cry from happiness for a week straight. I LOVE THIS SCHOOL.

Now I'm trying to power through this NYU secondary. But, really, five 300-word essays?? Granted, two of them only applied to me because of a grade dip my last year in undergrad and the fact that I have a gap year. Well, now I'm down to the last one.

Why is it that my small trips to my local pub turn into 5+ hour visits. I love my school's pub so much, its really the main reason why UCI is on my list of schools. I didn't even drink that much today, I just love the people there so much. We played candy land and apples to apples and it was great.

Got Case to look forward to completing tomorrow. But I got NYU done tonight! 😀 Maybe I can reuse some essays...I should have just only applied to schools without secondaries.

I did GW's secondary, but they won't waive the fee unless it says so on your primary 🙁. I'm getting it renewed, but it won't matter...

Did NYU and USC today! Two of my favorite reaches 😍

So I've been worrying about the speeding ticket that I got like two years ago (the only one I've ever gotten) because some applications are like, "CAREFUL! TRAFFIC TICKETS MIGHT BE MISDEMEANORS!" So I've been searching and searching and FINALLY I found out that a speeding ticket in Virginia is an infraction, not a misdemeanor, unless you're going over 80 mph or 20 above the limit. Well I was going exactly 80mph and only 15 over the limit. SO THERE! SUCK IT VIRGINIA STATE POLICE.

Eh. Even if you had some other misdemeanor on your app it probably wouldn't keep you from getting in. Unless it had to do with violence or drugs perhaps. I doubt they'd keep people from matriculating because of an expired fishing license or a noise ordinance violation....(assuming you don't try to cover it up)
 
yeah it's just about whether you report it - i've marked "no" to misdemeanors because i was like lol of course not... but now i think i may have to order a background check on myself to be positivepositive, because it's the not being up front that could theoretically screw you (though i kinda hope that if you marked no and a speeding ticket misdemeanor showed up that they would realize we probably weren't trying to cover our tracks by lying... since it's a SPEEDING TICKET and all...)

One SDNer got his acceptance withdrawn because he had a misdemeanor speeding ticket. You get the background check with a 10 day window to react if there's anything you don't know about, and I guess he didn't contact the admissions office to correct himself.

There are some stupid things that are technically misdemeanors in my state, so be careful. Things include holding alcohol in public, fishing with an expired license, or playing your stereo too loud after 11pm. Some of them are just a ticket and people never know that it is the lowest class of misdemeanor.
 
yeah that's why i want to pay for the check myself if necessary - i don't know when it'll happen otherwise and if it's upon acceptance i don't want to be apologizing then. i'd rather do the check, find out now, and if need be contact all the schools i'm still in the running for to update them on what i know so that we're all assured that i'm being up front about it.

It's true, but I'd marked "no" on misdemeanors not thinking about it--and it would have sucked to find out that my speeding ticket was, in fact, a misdemeanor. I guess I'd have just contacted individual schools to explain that I wasn't trying to hide it, but I'm glad I don't have to do that.

That's what I was scared of. And I didn't want to pay the $150 for the Certiphi check, that's highway robbery!
