You can always jazz it up by taking her out to do something she likes. One of the most fun gifts I ever got my brothers was taking them all laser tagging. It's not a material object, but we all had a good time, and it was unique.

my sister is a college freshman at a warm school, what should i get her for christmas? I need any idea, can't think of a thing.

gift card to a store she likes? sunglasses? I live in Hawaii (pretty warm) and those are things I would like to get.
Maybe something cool for her dorm room? TOMS shoes (some students at my school are all over those for some reason)?

Something for her dorm room would be good, but college students also appreciate amazon giftcards. You can get anything you want without needing someone to drive you to the mall! Does she read for fun? Does she like coffee? giftcards to places that sell those things are great presents.

a giftcard totally works and i agree with kduck's suggestions. you can toss in some stocking stuffers if you want...if she's a girly girl, maybe some travel size sunblock/lipbalms from sephora or something? SPF is very important, after all... 😀
