lulz. I mean, i think it's basically just that - a pseudo-pre-orientation. Lots of activities with current students to give you a more in-depth idea of what the school is like and sell you on choosing them.

It's interesting to notice which schools DON'T offer second look.

?

haha. well, I feel like opting not to provide it reflects a sentiment of "we don't need to offer you a second look because the students coming here have no choice / will choose us because we're awesome". More the former than the latter though. If a school tends to pull a great deal of matriculants from the waitlist, then a second look is less useful a tool to lure students.

Ahh, the first one make sense. I don't know about the second though - a few of the top 10 schools offer second look...

Looks like Harvard, JHU, Stanford, UCSF, Michigan, Penn, and WashU all have second looks. Probably because they're all fighting among themselves for a lot of the same students.

Yeah, I was under the impression all the top tier schools had second looks.

Yep, this was my point, so I wonder about top tier schools who don't offer second looks. I don't think the reason is that they are confident people will choose them because of their awesomness.

Yeah, I was under the impression all the top tier schools had second looks.

I thought some of them don't offer it, I could be wrong though.

Personally, I think all schools should offer second look.

Those aren't the schools i was referring to - some schools' impression of themselves has nothing to do with their rank. I'm not going to name names, or point fingers but there are unranked schools that think of themselves as a glorified ivy. Students told me so when explaining why they didn't have a second look when i went to go visit. My statement was intentionally vague, but I guess it was easy to misinterpret what I was saying.

Like I said, I was under the impression all top tier schools offered second looks.

Awwww, I want you to name names!!

LOL I'll say in a tiger sib pm but not on here. People pounce on the slightest thing. I've already seen how things can get lost in translation very easily over the internets, especially when dealing in sarcasm, touchy subjects or ESLs 🙄

yeah I agree second look is nice too, but I think another big consideration is the $$$. I probably should have just said "cost-effectiveness" from the get-go. 😳

Hehe. I have an idea of a particular school, but I don't want to say it in case I'm wrong. 😀

Yes, money is definitely something to consider, but at least schools should provide us with the option and the choice is up to us.

Anything against? 😎 😛

I think I know which schools you are referring to :meanie:

But seriously though, not offering SL is just stupid 🙄

For schools that accept people heavily off the waitlist, offering second look is a ridiculous waste of money. They feed you, most likely house you, and have faculty spend precious time out of their day to meet you.
Historically speaking, if the majority of those who are accepted in time for second look end up at other places, there's absolutely no point for the school to offer second looks. I don't think it's 'stupid'.

I was simply expressing my opinion - different people, different opinions 🙂

But yeah, I agree that it's probably a waste for schools who accept the majority of people off the waitlist...But I definitely don't think it's a waste for schools who don't. We spend thousands of dollars on applications and interviews, schools can at least give us more of their time for it.

Mudkipz is a silly Pokemon.

I think second looks will be much more fun with no pressure, though.

The only school I'm accepted at atm has no second look. Sadpanda.jpg

I actually want this one though bc my interview was in January of last cycle, so I don't remember what it was like so well.
