🙁🙁 sad stuff.

i saw war horse last night. that was super sad. i immediately went home to check how they filmed certain scenes without pissing off the humane society / peta / etc.

it was long. i wouldn't call it artsy though. spielberg is pretty much as mainstream as it gets. although WH was his first foray into WWI!

also it's not a first date movie....or even second. lots of sniffling sounds in the audience at various points throughout the movie.

i still remember my first date...moulin rouge...and i was totally tearing up at the end when she died. my date was SO AWKWARD about it hahaha

of course, then our friend who had her driver's license came to pick us up so that made it better 🙄 ahhh the days of being 14/15...

That's true. War movies and anything with an animal=😴

I have a very sophisticated film palate, including such movies as the Simpsons Movie and Jurassic Park.

lol i saw the simpsons movie. and jurassic park.

i know, i had really low expectations based off the terrible terrible atrocity that was the war horse trailer. i thought it was a joke at first, no lie.

plus things like secretariat and flicka never really sparked my interest.

but my friend wanted to go see it so i was like whatever. plus, i'm making it a goal to actually watch all the movies nominated for a golden globe. i think i'm nearly there. 👍

ahhhh go watch moneyball at the very least. if you like sports/math you'll enjoy it. As an econ girl, I'm a really big proponent of that movie. Nate Silver (fivethirtyeight blogger) is my hero 🙂

It's a documentary series on Nat Geo (I think) that looks at different drugs from a money/ commercial perspective. Where the ingredients come from, how they're made, how they are trafficked, etc.

It's pretty good, and I definitely want to watch the rest of them.

I had a first date where we went to see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (the Swedish version)

I was so traumatized, afterwards she was like "Hey, you want to go get a drink?" I said no, instead I just went home and curled up into a little ball and tried to forget. I really have a low tolerance for sexual violence. I never called her again.

About a year later I made the same mistake: new girl, movie was Black Swan. I just wanted to go home and hide under the covers for like a year.

I was all joking, since rom com = romantic comedy.. and most people tend to find Clockwork Orange to be violent and disturbing. 😉

haha I'm excited too, but apprehensive. Once it starts, there's no going back. :scared: As a non-trad who's already been back to school once, I think saying goodbye to my disposable income and the majority of my free time for the better part of the next decade is going to be a tough pill to swallow...

that said, I swear, I'm very very upbeat about this finally happening. It's just like I told nadaba...I think a small amount of fear is healthy/sensible.

Did you not read the book before seeing it? It's like the anti-date movie. I saw the American version this weekend. That was extremely graphic. I wasn't that surprised, but I was pleasantly surprised by rooney mara. A+. Also, black swan was awesome. just also not ideal first date movie material lol. After Moulin Rouge, I learned my lesson. I shy away from movies on first dates...the only movie I ever saw on a first date after that was Up, and that was because it was Pixar. 🙂 True confession: the first sequence / montage of Ellie and Carl's life together made me tear up slightly. 😳 Luckily, I had the rest of the movie to collect myself 🙄 haha

Up is coming with me to Australia on my iPad. 🙂 I'm also considering adding books to it...I've been against this e-book craze because i really love actual books, but I may soften my stance when it comes to a 20 hour flight. I'm thinking I'll finally get to the Hunger Games trilogy.
 
I currently have The Help, Harry Potter 7 (pt 2), Contagion, Bridesmaids, Limitless and Colombiana on my tablet to accompany me during my bus/plane trips 😀

I just finished the 3 swedish films and it was AWESOME.
