I finished getting all my med school shots today. No more stabbing! Yay!
shots? what shots?
i am definitely anti-stabbing.
$500? What the what?!Five shots, totaling $500 from an urgent care clinic. Yippee!
2 varicella
1 meningitis
1 Tdap
1 hepatitis B (I completed the series years ago, but I needed to boost to make sure I get a positive titer)

Insurance isn't supposed to be used to cover shots needed for higher ed, according to my PCP, who told me to go to the health dept. I refused to go to the health dept, which wouldn't have been much cheaper than the urgent care (but it undoubtedly would have been a much bigger hassle). Each varicella was $100, the hep B was $90, meningitis was over $100...
wowza. that's quite a bit of cash.
i immediately thought of this.

augh, i know i've had a hep B and a meningitis shot, but i'm unsure about varicella. i'm not looking forward to this. at least it's not tetanus. those hurt like a mofo.
A lot of schools will make you get another meningitis if it hasn't been given within 5 years of matriculation. Many also want hep B titers, and if you finished your series years ago without getting a titer, you may not have a positive titer now. I also had varicella vaccine in the past, just not how the schools want it. 🙁 What a pain in the anus. Oh, and Tdap has tetanus in it. Most schools want a recent Tdap....but varicella doesn't hurt much, if it's any consolation. It depends on the school and state though, so you may avoid some of this crapola. The NC schools are really strict.
I wont have any problems giving shots as a doc, but taking them is a different thing altogether, especially ones that hurt like the tdap and MMR.
The only shots I enjoy taking are of the alcoholic variety 😀
hey, taking those can hurt too, man. just ask anyone who's done the 4 horsemen or a shot of 151. 😳
research is dangerous, especially when you're accident prone. i think one of my biggest fears in years to come isn't inadvertently ingesting blood or fecal matter (both of which i've already done, incidentally 🙁), but cutting myself while i'm working on a hiv+ patient, or something similar.
how eerily accurate this discussion was...
sigh. my injury is le suck. i'm not even in the mood to gif.

My friend's aunt was a nurse and got Hep C from a Needlestick 🙁 scary stuff, and things move so quickly sometimes

it was pretty nasty...
Ok... Time to watch tv and fall back to sleep.
blahhh shots. i stabbed myself with a glass pipet 8 years ago and had to get a hep b and hep c shot for that. and i had a tetanus shot a few months ago because a mouse kicked an insulin syringe into my hand... research is dangerous, especially when you're accident prone. i think one of my biggest fears in years to come isn't inadvertently ingesting blood or fecal matter (both of which i've already done, incidentally 🙁), but cutting myself while i'm working on a hiv+ patient, or something similar.
on a happier note, here is the modified version of my onion/bacon/chive dip. It tastes like awesome. 😀
1 lb bacon
2 large sweet onions (or 3 maui sweet onions)
2 tbsp oil/butter (i went with 50/50 olive/canola)
2 cup plain Greek yogurt/mayonnaise in 3:1-2:1 ratio (Chobani to the rescue!)
grated Parmesan
Dijon mustard (i used 2 tsp)
garlic powder
cayenne powder
agave nectar (i used 1 tsp)
chives (i used 2 tbsp)
salt and pepper to taste
Dice onions finely.
Fry up bacon. Let dry on paper towels and cool. Then shred.
Leave some bacon grease in pan, deglaze with a bit of water. Add onions.
Caramelize the onions in the oil/butter/grease at low heat until desired level of brown. Add a little agave nectar halfway through. Cool.
While that's going, prep the rest of the ingredients, mix and let sit in the fridge.
Combine everything. Let sit overnight (the longer it does, the more the flavors meld).
Eat. Win.
I've been at 10k posts for too long... that must change.[/QUOTE

So, I get to witness several breast augmentations this week.
is this the elective kind where rich people want to get their boobs done or the other kind were people want to repair them after say lumpectomies or mastectomies?
