Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, it was UColorado. I felt so bad I even posted on the Confessional thread in The Lounge. I've been officially absolved of my sins.

I started this year owning four cars (two Subarus a Mercedes and a Porsche), but plan to go to New Orleans owning only one vehicle. The Mercedes sold today. A Subaru is on contract for April 9th. I understand that the market for used cars with wiper warmers and heated seats is quite limited down south, so I intend to leave it up here. I'd have gotten rid of it sooner but I still need a winter car here in Montana for a couple more weeks.

MT Headed, what's the deal with the traffic engineering thing? Were you serious about going into that / how does one even begin such a career?

It's a genuine branch of Civil Engineering. I've always admired its delicate balance of the needs of the group vs. the needs of the individual, the complexity and chaos, and the surprising conclusions. For instance how traffic lights on an metered onramp makes the stopped drivers arrive at their destinations faster, or how increasing the speed of drivers on a highway does not increase its capacity (if everybody drives with the 3 second rule, then 20 cars per minute will pass a given point, no matter how fast they drive).

Cool stuff!

i think i can guess which one you're gonna keep 😀

I wasn't kidding when I said the car could get from MT to New Orleans in 12 hours 😀

Good choice of which car to keep. 👍 My dad's a Porsche/various other German cars (such as Audi) mechanic who now owns his own shop that fixes nothing but Porsches. I've grown up in and around those beauties. My mom used to drop me off at school in a red 928. What specific Porsche do you have?

It's a 986. British racing green with tan leather interior. Ironic, a German sports car done in British racing colors. I bought it a long time ago when I used to work in the computer industry. I always wanted to get a vanity plate for it that said NOVIUM. Because if an Intel 586 is called a pentium, then a 986 would be called ...

I never did it, and the joke would be completely lost on people today. Now Novium looks like a cholesterol medication or something.

by the end of first year (should I be awarded an acceptance for 2016) i will have fully paid off my first car. Its not a porsche but it'll be all mine.

I come into work this morning (at 6) to find that my colleague decided to 'borrow' (read: use all of) my culture media and treated petri dishes, then decided to fiddle with the water bath. *scumbagsteve.jpg*

No big deal... that just sets me back 6 hours today. -______-

Wow. 😱 I'd seriously let someone have it if they pulled a stunt like that with my stuff. :slap:

I'm all out of frozen GF burritos. I wish I had one now, but I don't feel like going to Whole Foods around rush hour. Grocery shopping is best done at night.

agree 100%. I like going to Target on weeknights around 10pm. And the grocery stores too. Luckily, ones around here stay open pretty late (like 1 am).

you've been absolved of your sins? I don't know man, to turn one of the happiest-go-lucky med school's ssd into hellfire, brimstone and ten kinds of rage is a particularly significant type of nasty...but then again, I wouldn't say you were the only contributor either. it takes two to tango, or in this case, a bunch of pre-meds.

How's Montana in July, btw? I may or may not be road tripping through the northwest territories this summer...

............................. not cool.

oh god, I had a heart attack when I got to my desk this am. my PI had left a postit asking me about a project we did like a year ago....and of course I had no immediate recollection of the details because we were doing like 4 new projects every 3 weeks. thank heavens i kept immaculate records back in the day and was able to pull up an answer.

i need to shape up. i've been super lax about my notebook for the last several months... and my experiments 🙁

It's beautiful, hot and dry but with that fickle mountain weather that can dump a few inches of snow on your 4th of July barbecue. Our tourism largely consists of Glacier and Yellowstone parks in the western half of the state, and they can get crowded in the summer.

If you can squeeze in here late June, you can catch the Custer's Last Stand reenactments and festivals in Hardin, they are kind of hokey Montana fun.

More time for you to spend on SDN!

I like to think I helped. 😛

the two of you sure did, haha. tsk! as two older men, aren't you supposed to rise above the clangor and the clamor and impart your sage wisdom to calm the masses, not rile them up into a frenzy? :nono:

i kid. sort of.

me and my oldladyballs are going to go hide in a corner now. 😀

Meh. What CU is doing pisses me off and I'm sick of people defending them. That's why I was so rampant on that SSD this weekend. Wasn't really trying to rile people up, I just honestly think that what that adcom is doing is hurting their class, my state school, and a bunch of neurotic pre-meds that deserve at least a little respect.🙂

i don't disagree. wish another school would also hurry up and get back to me. i've been waiting for a post-interview decision there for several months. i'm pretty sure they're both WLs/rejections, but still.

Be glad that your school hasn't told you that a decision has been made but won't tell you what it is but tell you you'll get it on or around march 1st but not actually give you said decision anywhere near march 1st or at all. 😡😡😡😡😡

the lack of production on this board saddens me

Soo tired...I hate late flights getting in after midnight. That and having to be at work at 8:30am 🙁

Back to eating oatmeal. Need to get rid of the effects of all that fried, fatty food I ate at the airport. It was soo delicious though.

Yesterday I had my first cinnamon roll in probably 5 years at the hotel's continental breakfast. It was the most sweet, delicious treat anyone could ever ask for.

Nommm. Back when I did camps, the thing our dining hall was famous for was its cinnamon rolls. It was like being in a sugar coma for most of the morning.

I went straight to the center. That's the best part, with the most cinnamon and icing. I think I will make cinnamon rolls this weekend now...
