Have a quick question for current Med students.

I have a Pre-med friend who is in a conundrum. He was told that any med school will dismiss his application regardless of his GPA, MCAT scores, LORs, personal statement if they see that he was taken any of the advanced science classes(Chem II, Orgo I,II, A&P I,II, Microbio) at a community college. He believes that med school see this as a weakness and demand that any medical applicant complete their pre-reqs and undergrad at a university where it is poses more of a challenge and prepares them for med school.

Is this true, or is my friend just being a bit paranoid?

Thank you

False. Although, upper division bio classes show you can handle intensive science courses...

This is not only a lie, it is a patent lie. I took not only Chem II but also Chem I at a community college and I am satisfied with the results. With 5,000 to 10,000 applicants per school, I don't think medical schools have time to worry about crap like this. The MCAT exists to filter the wheat from the chaff in your undergrad science experience.

Besides A&P and Micro aren't even pre-reqs.

Negative. For the prices that Five Guys charge out here (California), I'd expect to have a waitress and my drinks refilled.

In N Out...that's what our hamburgers are about!

IN n Out > Five guys (1 cup)

I just don't get the fascination with In N Out and I've tried, oh I've tried so many times but I just can't taste it.

And yes, Five Guys' prices are nearly prohibitively expensive but the food is just so damn good that I just say

shut-up-money.jpg

and i think they were even more pricey on the east coast than in SoCal from my experience.

i feel like whenever you opine on food, there needs to be an asterisk:

*comes from someone who thinks mcdonald's is better than in 'n out.

This is a fast food conversation, its not like these places are 5 star restaurants with quality food. That being said, I think there's something positive about having choices with burgers and what not.

And McDonalds french fries >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> In N Outs fries and I will defend that to my grave.

I agree with this X 13484938

I hate five guys for two reasons:

1. Too expensive for what you get.
2. They must use a super high fat beef. It tastes decent but it kills my stomach. I seriously can't eat there anymore. It's like eating a ton of coldstone, too much fat.

Your friend is paranoid, not true.

I agree with this but I am not a fry person to start with. I usually don't get them, except I like Rally's and Chick-Fil-A's waffle fries.

I do like Chick Fil A's waffle fries, but they are also a tad pricey

and what's Rally's?

http://consumerist.com/2011/06/scie...rger-is-the-best-and-mcdonalds-the-worst.html

"Almost a year ago, our survey-loving siblings at Consumer Reports asked several thousand readers to rate burgers from 18 burger chains and to no one's surprise, McDonald's came in dead last. Not satisfied with merely finding the best and worst beef-on-a-bun, CR decided to go for the super-sized option, rating 53 restaurants in five categories to find which ones provide the best food, service and value to customers. In a survey of more than 36,000 readers, California-based In-N-Out Burger didn't just garner the highest rating among hamburger chains, it also received the highest marks of all 53 eateries in the survey. Five Guys and Burgerville filled out the rest of the top three burger chains.
It would be a gross understatement to say the bigger burger chains didn't perform very well. Wendy's was the best of the mega chains, ranking 15th out of 19 hamburger restaurants, while Burger King and McDonald's took up the final two spots in that category.
But BK and the Golden Arches still managed to avoid being the absolute lowest-rated chains on the entire survey. That dishonor went to beleagured pizza chain Sbarro, which only managed to score a non-negative rating for its ability to get you your pizza in a timely manner.
The CR survey doesn't paint a pretty picture of the pizza industry in general, with Domino's and Pizza Hut the second- and third-worst scores in the entire survey, respectively.
Chipotle, which topped the Mexican food category, showed that it's not impossible for a chain restaurant to have a large number of outlets and still deliver a decent product. Meanwhile, Taco Bell finished near the bottom of the group of eight chains, edging out last-place finisher Del Taco.
While Popeyes and KFC squabble over whose fried fowl is finer, the clear winner in the survey's chicken division was Chick Fil-A, which received high marks for food, value, staff and speed. Trailing far behind all cluckers was KFC with low marks for everything except its employees.
Overall, Consumer Reports readers gave 21 of the 53 chains high marks for food. Meanwhile, only three chains — McDonald's, Sbarro and Little Caesars — managed to score the lowest CR rating for food quality.
In addition to the reader survey, the magazine sent out a pair of sensory experts to get their opinion on who, if anyone, delivers the best fries. The experts noshed on fried potatoes at Wendy's, Five Guys, McDonald's, KFC, Fuddruckers, and Burger King and found:
"
Wendy's has the right to brag, and we scored its fries Very Good. Our experts gave Wendy's a slight edge over McDonald's because its fries were "a bit more potato-y." The others were close too, except Burger King; its fries tasted fatty, had less intense potato flavor, and rated only Good."
This is the part where you tell us what you think is the best fast food chain — not just in terms of food, but also when it comes to service and value."

Re: fries....You need to try ordering your in 'n out fries "well done". they're awesome.

Personally, I just really like in n out because they don't freeze anything so everything is legit fresh, and they're really high quality of all fast food restaurants. (see above article). it's why they won't open up new restaurants as quickly - they have to ensure consistent delivery without ever freezing. also why they won't ever open up one in tahoe. And the original in n out and headquarters are right by my house and i grew up going to one of the first in n outs ever every weekend with my best friend and our siblings. so it's partially out of nostalgic sentiment.

if ever you make it out to the midwest, we'll try culver's together. i'm pretty sure you'd like it.

They don't have wine at costco????

oh yeah they do. i thought you were talking about in n out or utah for a second, and got *really* confused, because i do not particularly associate wine with either. 😳

When it all comes down to how we determine what our favorite fast food joints are, are we going to listen to what others say. Or trust our own taste buds? I've read the article and I still would rather go to McDonalds over In N Out. I've tried to do everything I can to get to like In N Out, order fries well done, animal style, etc. I just can't get into it. I get that my stance on In N Out is in the minority, but it really shouldn't make my opinion on food of any less value.

When it comes to affordable burger joints, Carl's Jr (Hardees for you midwestern folk) >>> McDonalds >>In N Out. A Six Dollar Burger, good lord my mouth is watering just thinking about it right now. I think I'm gonna go get me one, there's a 24/hr drive through Carls Jr 😀

and If i ever do head out to the midwest, I'll gladly join you at this Culver's

i'm so sick. and by so sick, i have a sore throat and congestion that's keeping me from falling asleep. 🙄

i don't mind mickey d's, but i just take issue with the statement that mcdo > in n out. it does not compute with me.

oooh, tantacles has a bf? is this a recent development, or have you been keeping him on the dl up in hurr? 😉

It's new. Of course, it'll be ending at the beginning of August, but I can deal with that. And if he can't, well . . . too bad. Chicago has so many cute boys! I can't pass that up.
