Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
False. Although, upper division bio classes show you can handle intensive science courses...

This is not only a lie, it is a patent lie. I took not only Chem II but also Chem I at a community college and I am satisfied with the results. With 5,000 to 10,000 applicants per school, I don't think medical schools have time to worry about crap like this. The MCAT exists to filter the wheat from the chaff in your undergrad science experience.

Besides A&P and Micro aren't even pre-reqs.

Your friend is paranoid, not true.
Thank you for the responses 👍 That is what I thought as well.

Besides A&P and Micro aren't even pre-reqs
:eyebrow:

I applied to 20 schools, public & private, all across the country, without ever taking micro and it wasn't a prereq at any of them. I don't know why anybody would take undergrad A&P, a nursing class, if they wanted to get into med school.

Both of these subjects are taught in med school, not taken to get in med school.

i didn't even know what "A&P" was - sounded like a supermarket to me.

and micro is most certainly not a prereq.

I looked at over 80 schools last cycle, and the only place anatomy was a prereq was at Ohio State - this is a very new thing. They worked with their applicants very closely during the year to make sure we were aware of this requirement. Even if you graduated college without it, they made it clear they were willing to work with you to make sure you fulfilled it somewhere before orientation.

It's new. Of course, it'll be ending at the beginning of August, but I can deal with that. And if he can't, well . . . too bad. Chicago has so many cute boys! I can't pass that up.

oh for real. from what i understand (and have experienced), boystown in chicago >>> everywhere else in the country for a gay community, with possibly the exception of sf.

on that note, my gay boyfriends hold me to a higher standard than my straight boyfriend. i miss them terribly.

haha, i forgot i originally came in here to share this.

i like literally everything about this video.

Am I the only one who hates those stupid captcha verification thingies? It took me three tries to get one right just now. It's impossible to tell the difference between a "0" and a "O" as well as the uppercase vs. lowercase on some letters

You need to teach me your ways. I'm currently in a new relationship with someone you likes me much more than I like them, and wants to make the long distance thing work when I start med school. 1) I won't have time, and 2) I want to see what else there is in Chicago! I'm just having trouble ending it because I feel so bad 🙁. One of the nicest guys I have ever met.

I've never taken them either

I know micro isnt required, just preferred(in pharm at least). But youd think that the undergrad you are studying for before applying to med school would have A&P as a prereq. Examples include such as Biomedical Science Pure/Pre-Professional, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Bio etc.

I could be wrong. What do I know...Im just a trespasser.

I was a bio major and my school offered A&P, but it wasn't required. I never took it. Nothing is required unless it's general chemistry, biology, physics and organic chemistry (in the sciences). True, some schools have an exception, like OSU with A&P, and I think JHU with biochemistry (?). It would definitely help if you took it, but you don't need to.

no, i wouldn't. you're making a gross assumption that all incoming m1s are bio majors, or require very precise coursework to fulfill a bio core requirement. Anatomy and physiology were separate courses at the university i attended. Physiology was required for biology majors, but you could be any sort of major to apply to med school so long as you took the coursework phnerd mentioned. and last I checked, biochemistry =/= A&P.

in fact, it's a widely known fact that most medical schools like to pride themselves on the diversity of their students, right down to their majors. On the first day of class at one particular east coast medical school, the professor likes to ask the music major to stand up. 🙂

yep.

a lot of medical schools prefer/require biochem. i think that's the only class i know that's heavily recommended. but to that end, I think they've been increasing the amount of biochem on the MCAT so as to encourage students to take a class or at least study it some.

How does this stethoscope look?

Littmann Cardiology III Stethoscope

http://www.allheart.com/31273134.html

(Hello from San Diego!)
Looks good to me. I really like the green, though.

Last year, my parents bought me a stethoscope as a graduation gift. It turns out that I'll get a free one from the alumni association at my school, so I guess I'll have two! 🙄

hello folks, currently at the hospital for my last day of volunteering (before starting the UCLA postbac). So sad, I've been here for like 1.5 years and met so many wonderful people 🙁 . If only it was because I was getting into med school and not just a postbac, then there probably would be much more sad feelings 🙁

I was a microbiology major in undergrad. The micro I took in undergrad in no way prepared me for medical school micro. It is a whole notha' beast.

I think nursing majors need it because that basically all they get. Its not like they really need to know that much about individual bugs anyway, besides run of the mill strep, staph, and c. Diff. They have no need to understand in depth how most of the hundred or so different antibiotics work. They just need basic info.

You'll get there SS, I have faith in you!

They don't make orange cardio III's 🙁. The only one that comes in orange is the classic II S.E. Boooo

🙁 bummer!

whhhaaaaaa? no way, that sucks!

i'm considering ordering a navy one from steeles.com. i know everyone's a big fan of allheart, but it seems to be considerably cheaper, especially when factoring in shipping and engraving. and yes, i'm getting my name on mine - there seems to be a lot of talk of accidental swaps and such mishaps.

Makes me feel like I'm using wite-out to write my name on my TI-83 in high school all over again. 😀

I carved my name in my white TI-83... no one gonna jack my calculator.

yay! i keep thinking it'll look douchey, but then i remember that i consistently lose my credit cards, camera, lip balms...even my clothes sometimes.

and then i think, it's going to really be worth the extra $5. 🙂

tdd, you are my new favorite.

i started college with one ti-83. somehow, i have acquired 3.

The Littmann Cardio III is about %150 on Amazon. Is it cheaper from these other places you have mentioned?

Also, you have just reminded me that my sister is still in possession of my TI-83. I must get it back! It has all of my programs on it from AP Stats, and I can't do a chi square analysis without it!!!!

I pretty much panic when I'm out of the house and realize I've either lost or left behind my lip balm. I had chapped lips one time in the 5th grade and was never able to stop using that Crackstick after that. I swear, I'm legit addicted to the stuff. There's even a website dedicated to Chapstick addiction: http://www.lipbalmanonymous.com/

I would LOL if it weren't so pathetic.

i lose them to different bags all the time. and of course, leaving them in the car / work drawers.

but i'm not nearly as bad as my bf. somehow, he gets like 10 carmex pots and chapsticks in his stocking at christmas, and he's stealing mine by summertime. i'm like, HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

allheart, medisave.net and steeles.com all seem to have cheaper prices up front. i'd calculate shipping to double check.

haha, thanks. 👍 Almost everyone has their names on theirs, nbd.

I ended up with none. 🙁 I think "loaned" them to siblings.....

those are all really popular.

Don't buy from amazon, your school's bookstore, or any of those crap fairs your school will put together where vendors come in and pawn their stuff. It's all waaayyyy overpriced.

I had a Casio graphic calculator in high school so I knew which one was mine. Also, no one wanted to jack it cause it wasn't a TI-83 🙄

Had my last volunteer shift at the hospital. It was so sad. I also had my last session with one of the kids I've been with for a year now. Even sadder 🙁

I'll take another top to make me not sad

edit: now with 90s musical goodness

whhhaaaaaa? no way, that sucks!

Tell me about it 🙁. Heard anything about the Classic S.E. II? It's only $70 compared to the Littman III's, which has me wondering about potential quality differences....
