The horror that is the I-10 freeway is one that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

lol. 405's worse.

and the 10 stretches all the way across the country....it's not so bad past the California border. 👍

geographical giveaway: people from cali use the article "the" before any highway numbers. most other people don't.

i.e. "the 405", "the 10". so when you give directions, you say "take the 10 west to the 57 south".

whereas in, say, minnesota, you'd say "take 62 east to 169 south"

i think it's strange. but interesting.

When I went to southern california I had an adjustment period where I called every highway "highway 5" or "highway 405".

Now it's just "the this" and "the that".

haha, just wait until tomorrow 😎

tonight i made my bf steak fajitas.

marinade was a classic:
fresh squeezed juice from 1/2 lime
high grade olive oil
1 tsp cumin
1/3 cup fresh cilantro chopped finely
1 poblano pepper chopped finely
1 jalapeno pepper chopped finely
3 minced garlic cloves

i sauteed the peppers and onions in the leftover rendered fat and oil mix after i cooked my steak. mmm

bf is all finicky about avocado and NOT using greek yogurt as sour cream so i snuck some of both in by mixing my homemade guac with greek yogurt, lime and fresh salsa in with a metric f**kton of cilantro. and i made it the spread under the steak. :meanie:

also, i mixed together some garlic brunuusto and chipotle cheddar as my shredded cheese mix because i couldnt find queso fresco.

i love being a spontaneous cook. 🙂

Totally ruined!:barf:I despise cilantro. Tastes like soap and covers up the flavors of anything else present with it's sharp, overpowering soapiness.

Oh no, not you too! Cilantro is delishhhh. I put it on everything! My mom even makes this amazing cilantro spread, and it's great in all of my sandwiches. Noms 😍

it's ok. i would remove it for you 🙂

i often have to modify things because my bf is SUCH a picky eater. eg the dislike of avocados and other veggies. and he hates my favorite veggie in the world, so sometimes i'll just make them on the side.

And sometimes i'll just sneak the tiniest bit in of other ingredients he "abhors" and see if he notices. he usually doesn't.

something herbal like cilantro though...i wouldn't f**k with that. people tend to be really extreme about their likes/dislikes of it.

I don't know the exact amounts, but you can change the amounts of any ingredient to suit your taste. You just blend together cilantro, jalapeno, lime, salt and garlic. You can also add a bit of yogurt if you want it smoother and creamier. I'll ask her for the relative measurements and let you know! Knowing her though, she just tosses random amounts in a blender and it still comes out delicious.

Went to a consultation about my wisdom teeth. Got an appointment to take my two impacted ones out tomorrow. Oh joy 🙁

Cilantro is quite a polarizing topic in this thread:

Meg, that pizza is ruined by the inclusion of cilantro, the devil herb. I can always tell when someone has snuck some into my food when everything tastes like soap. Anyone else despise cilantro?

It has to do with some gene or another. I, however, looovee cilantro as well. 🙂

Cilantro is the devil's weed. 😡 I wish I could burn every miserable leaf.

Love cilantro, especially in a home made salsa!

Cilantro is obviously gross.

Almond joys are gross. That and of course, cilantro.

Yep. It rocks almost as much as cilantro.

I love their hard tacos 🙂 Especially the fresco ones because they have cilantro :meanie:

Cilantro is growing on me. Ever since I started eating viet sandwiches.

I made fajitas last night....they had MOUNDS of cilantro. :meanie:

Awwww, good luck! It wasn't as bad as everyone made it sound (granted, I was knocked out from the painkillers 😛). But I didn't get swollen cheeks! And I lost a few pounds from eating just soup and jello.

Cinclus hates cilantro so much that she immediately announced her hatred of it in a FB post

I really do hate it. 🙂 Good find with all those cilantro quotes, lol. It appears I've scolded MegMurry in the past about its inclusion in recipes.

And good luck with the wisdom teeth extraction, phnerd! It's really not too terrible, so try not to worry too much about it. I had minimal facial swelling, and only a day or two after. Any pain was controlled pretty well with the meds they gave me (except for the place where they had removed an upward-growing wisdom tooth from my sinus cavity - that hurt after - but I'm hoping/assuming you don't have that).

lol no harm no foul. you certainly aren't the first person to tell me you hate cilantro, and you won't be the last.

but if no one i'm cooking for hates it, you better believe i'm gonna load up on that sucker. i LOVE that stuff in banh mi, pho, any thai dish, any mexican dish...

anyways.

here's a peace offering. gluten-free bbq chicken pizza with caramelized onions.

if anyone doesn't approve, gtfo. 😛

ooh, on that page of cilantro discussion, i found a good reminder:

good news, we've surpassed 2015 in both posts and view counts.

next goal: 2014. eyes on the prize, folks. eyes on the prize.

quick observation: 4 of the top 10 posters in the 2014 thread are or have been mods.

maybe Saggy & sector should step it up...

How many of you guys (or do you think) applied around mid-July with ~avg stats, were complete mid Aug. and still got in? I'm trying to assess my chances. Thanks!

I applied late in October but had very solid stats. I got 4 acceptances from 4 interviews, all in state. Didn't get any OOS interviews.

Apply as early as possible, I was a flaming idiot and got very lucky.
