Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And yeah, last time I went there I made $300. I am hoping to increase that amount today :meanie:

Oh and btw, hope you win some money. I have ZERO luck when I go to the casino! I always lose money there... maybe thats why they are always so happy to see me back

I get that feeling frequently. =/

Is your dad a doc? That's pretty nifty. I'm sure you're gonna do fine, keep up the good work.

Hahaha, I got hibachi the other night, didn't agree with my digestive system. All those weird spices and dressings... Hopefully they weren't serving you civet paws. http://cats.about.com/cs/basichealth/a/civetcat.htm :scared:

Hahaha nope, my dad's a PA! Gotta love those PA's 😀 He definitely knows more about medicine than some of his physician colleagues... he's crazy smart, but couldn't afford med school when he immigrated.

And the rat's paws were NOT tasty. At all. The "General Tso's" sauce was really disgusting too. It just wasn't good Chinese food, and since I haven't had "Chinese" food in ages, it doesn't bode well for my Chinese food-eating future.

Damn, I wish my school had cool classes like Medical Terminology, Endocrinology, Nutrition, etc. I'm taking Genetics, Statistics, Biochemistry, and a Poetry Writing workshop. We don't have an Anatomy course, and we have ONE Physiology course called "Animal Physiology", where a ton of it is COMPARING human physio to other animal systems. That's cool and all, but I'm more interested in human physio, so just cut to the chase. No one cares about malpighian tubes...

I never really liked General Tso's. Tastes way too sweet and rubbery 👎

Yeah, how lame is that? They always teach us about animal physio, but not human. Then again...human physio is extremely complicated.

One thing I kind of don't get... universities/colleges don't really teach human physio, yet the MCAT expects a fairly penetrating overall knowledge of human physiology, for certain organs (such as blood vessels and kidneys) to a deep level. While I absolutely love physiology, I'm a little surprised at how medicine-heavy the MCAT is. There are literally sometimes passages with diagnoses on them, which is all well and good, but the pre-med bio requirements are far from helpful for a lot of the MCAT.

Moral of the story: TEACH US HUMAN PHYSIO COLLEGE. PLEASE? 🙁🙁🙁

thats fine you're prolly burnt out. go do something fun and come back.

Yeah, I should, but the weather is so crappy here right now 🙁 Earthquakes and hurricanes...it's the end of the world! 😛

Watch them make it a req in the future :meanie: And most of the MCAT is critical thinking, so I guess they expect us to hone our thinking skills to the next level during the course of our studies :scared:

My scores are decreasing! :scared: AAMC#10: 37 (13, 11, 13) One away from a 12 in verbal arg!

It's the difficulty of the exams, I tell you! It's okay tots, you're still doing amazing, imo. Just bump up your sciences to 15s 😛

question: why do people go on medical missions? isn't it normally expensive? and can't they do stuff like that here in the US? how is that going to make them better doctors going overseas?

hey guys just had my first day at school 👍

ochem lecture went well, but she is a fast talker that's whats goin to scare me when the material gets more difficult.

all my nsc classes are fun. Everyone in there are all premed...

I feel your pain man. My chemistry professor not only has the sloppiest hand writing ever, he has a lisp, and talks really fast. He's super confusing too. Welcome to a semester of self-teaching everything.

I think they just want to give back to the less fortunate

Who hand writes anymore? It's all about the PPTs/PDFs 😛

They can do it here in the states? 😕

Do they have one for general?

Sadly he uses PPTs and hand writes for the equations and what not.

i think so if not i highly recommend "chemistry for the utterly confused" i have it and i wish i had during gen chem, very good.

It's not the same, imo. People in the states can get free insurance like medicaid. People in countries like africa have nothing. Their average life expectancy is like 30 years old. It seems like a very charitable thing to give to those much less fortunate than us, imo.

Still, dude, major congrats! I was super pumped over a 36, so you can be very happy with a 37 😀 I think AAMC's 10 and 11 are considered the hardest AAMC's, and people usually do quite a bit worse on those two than on the others, so the fact that you're consistently in the 13's for sciences and in the 11-12 range for verbal is excellent.

I hate the one point away thing. I was one point away from a 13 on AAMC 9 🙁 I literally got perfect scores on every passage, one wrong on one passage, and then ran out of time and had to rush the last passage, and got three wrong just because I didn't have time to think them through. I literally could have gotten a 13 or 14 on that verbal... oh the possibilities.

I think I'm taking another FL tomorrow. I feel like I shouldn't stop them while I'm on a "roll". Even if I do poorly on AAMC 10, at least it's practice.

Still though, Tots, your range is 37-40. Mine is 30-36. May the leprechaun be with both of us on 9/2 :luck::luck::xf::xf:

I remember reading that adcoms don't look too favorable on medical missions outside the country..

My medical trip to China was an amazing experience. It was more of a cultural experience than a medical experience. Also it was somewhat better than what a lot of people do imho. I went with a professor at my school and a couple other students and we collected data for a research project in addition to screening children for congenital heart defects. It was pretty awesome.

Good luck you two!! Definitely my MCAT heroes 😍

I don't know how that could be true 😕😕

its not true. There's absolutely no reason why that would be seen as a negative thing and i think some people so they can immerse themselves in the culture as well as help.

There are still a lot of people in the US that don't have any form of insurance though. Its ridiculous.

Tons of molecular bio for me please. There were 2/3 physio questions on 10 that stumped me and apparently my deductive skills did not work.

It is true! I remember LizzyM saying it.

You're definitely right. I think a lot of them are illegal immigrants. If I ever opened a private clinic I would want to see patients for free once a week. It's a dream in progress
Tons of molecular bio for you it is! You're gonna get 3 molec bio passages, 3 orgo passages, and an experimental 😀
