Oh man, I don't want to think about that yet!

sorry 😳

I've been trying not to think about it for months now. Decided to pull up the app today since it's now available and see exactly what type of questions I'm dealing with.

Probably will not bring it up to the parents for a few more days though...

Is there any disadvantage to filling out the FAFSA later? Still waiting on acceptance numer uno 🙁

Yes, there are some disadvantages, because some of the funds are limited. You can still submit FAFSA to a school even if you haven't been accepted yet or are on the waitlist. You can list up to ten schools to send FAFSA to.

Basically all the information that will be asked for is your and your parents' personal info as well as stuff that is typically on a federal tax return. In fact, the instructions will almost always tell which line number to refer to on a tax return to find the information.

Just curious... How is this the first time some people are filling out FAFSA? I thought everyone did it in college. o.o"

I believe March 1 is the priority deadline for many schools. However, on the 2013 FAFSA, you can add up to 10 schools. I was told that these schools can include waitlists and places you interviewed at and are still waiting for a decision.

That way if they offer you a spot after March (or later), they can probably back it up a little more quickly with an aid package since they have all your financial numbers already.

Could be wrong though, but this is how I am approaching it.

Any idea about schools you applied to but have no news pre-interview?

edit: I called, you can add any school regardless of app status

Do schools wait to see your fasfa before offering merit scholarships?

For some schools, merit scholarships come from the admissions office (rather than financial aid office). So they will not necessarily wait on your fafsa, rather the admissions office probably waits to see how the class is shaping out before deciding who gets these. This might start early in the cycle or much later.

The final package on your award letter from the financial aid office in April will include input from the admissions office regarding a merit award. I think the admission office will notify you separately as well, if they decide to give you one.

The only bad part at least for me is that I heard that some schools want the FAFSA and needaccess to be be filled out with the real tax data and not anticipated. So my problem is my w-2 is not generated til like end of January so I am done filling the apps out til then.
