Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Whaaaaat I routinely come in at night and the traffic is horrible! I was there at 10:30 last night and it took 40 minutes to get around the loop...on a Thursday night. I wish this was abnormal too. :scared:

Only flew out of O'hare maybe once so not sure how bad that airport is.

People routinely freak out.

I was talking about during the day.

Sounds like flying out of John Wayne is fun!

How are you not driving if you are in SoCal? The reason why I despise LAX is because the traffic is ridiculous at all hours of the day. Picking anyone up is an absolute headache. Also the fact that all there are like 8 separate terminals with their own security is frustrating. I once showed up to an international flight 3 hours early and BARELY made it on my plane. And LAX lost my checked luggage(didn't get through security screening before my plane left). That airport is a circus. The fact LAX is about an hour from where I live just makes me hate it even more.

😍 John Wayne. So easy to get in and out. Security takes like 2 minutes. Also much easier to get to from where I live.
I always have a friend take me or catch a shuttle/bus/taxi. But yes, I always drive everywhere else while I'm Cali. Our transit freakin' BLOWS. The traffic is the only thing keeping me away from moving back. 🙁
Hmm good point. I was at O'Hare twice this past year... both flights were delayed, and one was so delayed I missed my connecting flight. I don't know if it's the actual airport, the unpredictable weather, or a combination of both. As for LAX, I guess I was primarily referring to the traffic. Still, Burbank >>>>>> LAX. You can even board on both sides of the airplane there so boarding takes half as much time!
Agreed. I much prefer Burbank, but am a stone's throw from LAX. It just makes it easier.

I thought Burbank had the freakishly short runway? Anyways yeah John Wayne is fun to fly out of because as this website explains:

People routinely freak out.

Dude, that sounds awesome!

False. O'Hare is by FAR the worst. LAX is fine unless you're driving IMO. I've never had a problem and have been through that airport more times than I can count.

I vote O'Hare for the worts aiport in the US. We should start a thread :naughty:

Love that pic, any idea where it's from?

Blazers superfan at the Rose Garden. TNT zoomed in on him for like five minutes.

I don't think LAX is that bad if you're the one flying. The workers are fast and efficient, and the airport is large with plenty of shops and restaurants and bars. Having said that, I hate dropping off and picking people up from LAX. The 105 is usually a pain and the arrivals level is jampacked at all hours. Oh, and they're currently doing construction, so all the short cuts across the loop are closed off 🙁.

The shortest runway in the US! It's fun (and a little scary) to fly out of John Wayne.

Haha if you fly Southwest they always like to say something about how the "very very rich people that live by the beaches" in orange county mandated the noise restriction and that's why the climb is so steep.

Ontario>John Wayne>Burbank>LAX>>Long Beach. But really, I'm just glad there are multiple airports in the area so that I can shop for the right price/schedule combo.

And now I'm caught up too. I'm learning from you Guero!

That about sums it up. I'm a Whiskey and Scotch fan and only drink the clear liquors in mixed drinks (e.g., bloody marys).

Dude, I love Mezcal! Every time I'm in Mexico I bring back a few bottles.

Aaaaaaand, caught up!

If you ever get the chance check out La Casa del Mezcal in the LES in the city and anything by Tinieblo (I am a fan of their añejo but the Joven has gotten tons of awards). Also Tinieblo Mezcal is made in my home state in Mexico 😀 I think Mezcal will become quite common in the US soon.

Agreed. And I'll definitely try those out, thanks.

lol... it's an interesting discussion/debate. Admittedly conversing about airport-induced PTSD is more enjoyable though.

Haha... Do I change out of my suit before or after the security check? Will 30 mins be enough time to change and eat before last boarding call?

I guess it depends on the airport... if you have assigned seating and don't have to use the overhead compartment, you can get away with boarding pretty late. 30 minutes is a lot of time... you can probably at least grab a snack at one of the magazine stands.

Agreed. These were the types of questions that I was constantly asking myself at the airport which I feel led to some PTSD from the airport.

One time we were literally asked to unbuckle and get off the plane because the plane was "too heavy." 😡 I was trying to get home for Xmas too.

oh and I weigh like 110-115lbs.

I'm taking a mini socal road trip in a week and a half... going to Disneyland for two days and I'm getting a behind the scenes tour of the San Diego zoo (I get to play with monkeys!). Definitely one of the upsides of having a girlfriend in vet school 😎

What about the Pandas?

I think what you meant to say was "get played by the monkeys?"

Right? Airports... I like trains better 🙂

Trains: :scared:

I spent 24 hours on a train from DC to Michigan(via Chicago... ) and froze to death. I was in shorts and checked my bag with my warmer clothes. It was my first time on a long train ride...everyone was so prepared with pajamas and all kinds of stuff. Then there was me, hugging my laptop for 24 hours, curled in a ball. I was so unprepared.

🙁 Sorry to hear that! I always bring a shawl/small blancket with me. I bet your laptop appreciated the love. 😛

Why do I have a feeling you look something like this?

Elefants, Pandas, Monkeys!! I am also into porcupines.
Porcupines are the cutest!

I imagine he and the latoptop got very intimate that night. :naughty:

Man, a good friend of mine's gf just died from a brain aneurysm. She was 26/27 and at Columbia Business School. Life is crazy.

Ughhh I just spilled an archive rack (100 blood samples) everywhere. This is by far the worst day at work I have ever had, I just want it to end!!!!!!!

Sorry, just needed to vent 🙁.

Bad juju in the 2017 thread today.

My uncle was diagnosed with diabetes and will be on insulin injections for the rest if his life.

Unintentionally trollled my undergrad financial aid office by sending my estimated FAFSA to them. Received a verification thing in the mail today, called them, and was like "sorry, suckers, graduating in May."

Hey everyone,

Thought I'd join in here and get familiar with everyone in the class of 2017.

As of right now, do any of you guys see yourselves doing a 5th year and graduating 2018 or are you all set on the traditional four?

Anyone know where they're headed for sure this summer? Anyone going back and forth between two or three schools? Anyone have no idea?

Feels good to finally be finished (soon enough) with undergrad and heading off to medical school. I'm excited!

Welcome!

On a scale of one to ten, how would you describe your drinking habits (one being every other night and ten being you are sloshed right now).

Sorry to hear it.

A friend of mine who was an MS1 died ice climbing on Friday.

Make the most of the time you have people.

It's the curse of '17!!

Maybe deferring to '18 isn't a bad idea!
