Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
UWash (I'm IS) has only need-based scholarships. I'm in the large demographic of kids where I don't really qualify for need-based money but my parents can't afford to pay out of pocket for school either.

I was hoping for some merit money from UMich as that was really where I felt like I saw myself being happiest, but I'm not sure whether or not ~80k is worth it for fit, all else being equal. It's going to be a tough call either way, but this definitely complicates things.

It's going to be hard to turn down UWash and 80k.

I think I read in some old posts about how UMich ups their scholarship offer when you try to withdraw from them.

But yeah, it'd be hard to turn down 80k.

Damn. No scholarship to my top choice OOS school. Time to grovel.

🙁

I'm kinda the opposite - I'm desperately hoping for some help with the OOS tuition at UW. It's $100k more expensive than my other options! It's a great school, but I don't know that it's an extra $100k worth of great compared to OHSU or the other UW.

Doesn't Emory have good scholarship?

I don't mean to invade in your decision, but usually in these cases, location and surrounding areas are the deciding factor here.

I know Emory has 4 full tuition scholarships that I'm 90% sure I would've heard about already. I'm not sure about if they have other money hanging out, I guess I'll find out when packages come out in April. Mostly, though, I find Seattle and Ann Arbor to be more desirable places to live than ATL. Emory is a great school with a beautiful campus, but I'm not sure I liked it enough to want to live in Atlanta for four to five years. Then again, financial aid could always sway a poor college grad like myself.

Yeah, no kidding. 😳

I hope so. I'm not looking for full tuition or anything like that, just some amount to make passing up UW a little bit more of a palatable choice.

Do they let you become IS after the first year? That's one thing about UMich that I find really frustrating--I'll have to pay OOS for all four years, even if I change my license, voter reg, etc.

Anyway, sorry to hijack our class thread with first world problems! I hope you've all got fun planned for tonight.

They used to, but that was discontinued as of last year due to budget cuts. The school of medicine now has a grand total of 7 'fellowships' that replace that program...so basically I'm crossing my fingers that UW wants to recruit me more than almost all the other OOR applicants. Since I got waitlisted I am guessing this may not be the case.

Anyway, sorry folks. To change the subject, I would like to see this site added to SDNs GIF repertoire:

You may still might get a scholarship during their future rounds!(they said April and maybe May depending on how these offers go)

I didn't get a scholarship either so it looks like no UMich in my future.

Yikes! If you had no luck it's not looking good for me. I'd better send a very compelling letter. 😛

UMich is really that selective in scholarship offers? Wow

I almost died of shock tonight. Got home from a concert and found Agent B on my table.

I did, fairly depressing. I guess the international schools are big drivers of high tuition...

I can’t believe their still trying to go to Vet school. Would you pay 300,000+ to get an MD, if MD jobs only paid 60,000?

Most likely no. I would think about doing it in other countries, I have friends doing it in Mexico for 200/semester, they'll take the boards, have see if they get a residency, etc. I don't think I would do it if I was not able to pay it back. Crazy stuff! Would you do it?

why hasn't "bottom!" become a thing?

EDIT: nevermind, I looked through some of the previous pages and it looks like this has also been done.

Hey class of 2017!!! First post here. I'm working a night shift so I was bored and stumbled on this thread. Nice to meet all of you fellow 2017'ers! Happy Easter!!
