Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

What will you be singing? I'm too scared to sing in front of people. 🙁

I don't know yet. I like to pretend I can rap so maybe some old school hip hop stuff .

I
Yesss! Always - Bon Jovi, aaaand go!

Bon Jovi is a great group song. You have to work your way up to that energy level though!

Even after downing some liquid courage? Even in one of those tiny little rooms with just your friends?

Yup that's what I rely on. It also helps to be with people who are just trying to have fun as opposed to being there to sing some serious ballads/solos.

Nope, I's got to pay for my apps somehow

That's what credit cards are for.

... and never forget food inside the car. Or crayons 🙄

Or chapstick 🙁

Another day, another top stolen from AgentB 😎

😉

And that answered about 2 of the posts. Not all of them. My point is that the media reports things without and proof of anything or any facts. And then turn around and change it 15 minutes later. Just because they reported that he was a medical student doesn't mean he was a medical student, because he wasn't. He is 19, think about it for 2 seconds and you will realize that they are wrong. That's why you need to actively think about what is being said. Use your brain, not just your ears.

NPR has been really good about covering the whole thing. I have a large amount of respect for NPR.

A footnote from their live blog:

NPR said:
As happens when stories such as this are developing, there will likely be reports that turn out to be mistaken. Wednesday, for example, there were reports from CNN, the AP, WBUR and others that authorities either had arrested a suspect or were about to do that. It turned out that no one had been arrested or taken into custody. We will focus on news being reported by NPR, other news outlets with expertise, and statements from authorities who are in a position to know what's going on. And if some of that information turns out to be wrong, we'll update.

To be fair, when they reported the medical school information, they were just quoting what the father said (so, they didn't technically misreport anything - he actually did say that his son is a second year medical student). To be prudent, they should have included a statement backed up by research and evidence that this statement from the father was not accurate (whether it be that he was just trying to talk his son up or due to an actual misunderstanding of the U.S. educational system).

The media in general is pretty hit or miss, based on source and even specific reporters, IMO.

Solid post 👍

Yes, it started at a quote from the father but it was thrown around by many, without even looking into it. It was taken as fact because one misinformed person said so.

The thumbs down was for the juxtaposition of your collective comments on the media and your subsequent negative impression of the suspects' dad, which was informed ONLY by the media's translated and presumably somewhat edited account of his interview.

I definitely wasn't thumbs-downing the standalone notion that it's good to question the media, but rather pointing out that you weren't following your own advice.

Fair enough hahaha 😀.

Remember when I said that the suspects credentials would change at last 5 times after he was reported as a medical student? I think I was right 😛

Jeeeeeze guyz. We're all on the same page here... we're all fallible and we're all capable of oversight.

Perhaps we should try and refrain from judging the father until we actually see/hear/read the interview and see it in context. To be honest I haven't been following that part of the story closely enough to have an opinion on the guy. I just want them to find White Hat alive.

Hha I know we are on the same page. I just like to cause trouble if that's not apparent. 😀

Just a personal goal 😀

I've thought about doing that, as well. . . I don't think that it would too bad most of the time. I just think it would be difficult in social situations where everyone else is drinking. I'm in my late 20s, so don't really hit up parties any more, but very much enjoy a beer whilst tailgaiting or a glass of wine while out with my friends. It is really weird to me how hard I find that to give up.

I'm 25, but I'm pretty much in the same situation. It's the bolded part that scares me a little bit. I doubt I'll give it up completely (I really do enjoy a good craft beer or a good glass of wine), but I definitely want to tone down how often I consume the stuff.

You guys are all talking about the fathers description of his son, but wasn't it an uncle or am I totally behind here?

The uncle lives in Maryland... he gave a statement/speech basically expressing his condolences and apologies, etc. The dad is outside of the US, and I guess was contacted by the press. That's about all I know.

This guy conceivably just found out his sons killed people (in a pretty egregious way) and that one of them is also dead. Anyone would sound completely nuts in that situation.

For as much as everyone was preaching about questioning the media's agenda earlier, it didn't take long to jump on the bandwagon and accept that this guys is exactly how the media portrays him.

But you don't act in a threatening way. The FBI confirmed the suspect

stupid internet lag.

Is that your opinion of how each handled the situation or how each described their feelings toward the actions of the bombers?

How they described the bombers. The father gave a very positive view of their personalities, whereas the uncle gave a very negative view.
