Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got back my reviews of being a TA. Overall, I got a ton of great reviews saying that I was the best TA they have ever had, I know a ton of anatomy, I made them laugh a lot, gave them lots of great ways to remember stuff, etc.

Then, the last one just says, "You are very arrogant."

Haha

Every quarter I was a tutor for a supplemental instruction program I got anonymous reviews. Generally they were good but one quarter I had all great reviews except something like: "You are amazing! But you give me creepy looks when I get the answer wrong." I am never going to live that one down, my friends will make sure of it.

Its always the one negative one that you harp on.

May 15th worked in my favor, too because my school called to tell me that I secured an on-campus apartment!! :soexcited: I'll find out my roommate in 2 weeks.

Awesome! I should get on that housing stuff...

Morning 2017!

I can't get grad housing on campus because the regular school doesn't start until late September and thus they lease out the apartments in mid September.

The medical school starts orientation August 27th...

Tots, which country are you in now? Still Belgium?

Yep. Super late. That is just how UW Seattle is.

I don't mind though because it is going to last 4 years no matter what. Plus it means that I get a longer vacation away from school!

2 weeks?! What could you possibly be doing for 2 weeks?

My school is changing the curriculum this year, so they're integrating a quick introduction to being a doctor "course" into the orientation. Plus, they're spreading out the usual boring orientation sessions over the two weeks so that we won't be overwhelmed. We'll be kind of the guinea pig year for the systems-based curriculum, so we'll see how it goes. I'm kind of excited for it because unlike some other schools, we'll actually have a tiny bit of knowledge before white coat ceremony.

Hmm interesting. When is the first day of class?

How are you guys going about finding housing all the way across the country? I plan on moving in at the very last minute because of wait lists...but either way schools starts in early august!

HELLO EVERYONE!
Glad to be part of this wonderful group of awesome ass kickers.
It looks like I'm GW class of 2017!
Only Georgetown will possibly change my mind now!

Awesome!! I remember you posting in the GW class thread. Congratulations! 👍

WHOA. Everyone in my lab is getting presented with the NIH director's award for one of the studies we conducted! :woot:

In the words of mcloaf (I think?) Why this thread so far down page??

Okay this is a strange question. Is it weird to have a "send off" party before med school? I graduated last year, so it's not a graduation party, and my family's insisting on having one and I'm poor as can be so if people decide to bring something I wouldn't be upset about it. But it seems like it might be weird to people.

Any thoughts?

:hardy:
We start the 12th. What about you guys?

So you'll have ~ 1 month off great!

I think orientation is July 31st & classes start on the 7th.

got off waitlist! 😍

hope fellow waitlisters will be posting here soon!

cheers! 😍

Congratulations!! :hardy:

Nah you're fine. If your family insists then don't feel bad. It shows how much they support you and will support you throughout this long journey you are about to take.

don't sweat it 🙂 People care about you and understand that you're off on a crazy journey these next 4+ years. Enjoy it!

Guys... I've never bought a bed before. Where do I start?!

 yeah, I don't really know either. I'll be getting a twin since my apartment is tiny. New mattress from mattress discounters for something like $90 and then anywhere I can get a bed frame new or used. The problem is most twin bed frames are for kids.

Sometimes upperclassmen will give away their beds, so you could look there. Or big lots, walmart (online), target is expensive.

These are my preliminary thoughts.

By not buying a used one, you don't know what is/was on it :naughty: 😀

Yeah I'm staying far away from craigslist for my mattress. But I never realized how much a mattress cost! My coworker was like "never get it at full price! we got a great deal on a $6500 mattress for $2100"... and all I can think about is how ridiculous $2100 sounds 😱.

Debated getting drunk before my next house showing. Decided against it and just went to Starbucks. Now debating canceling, because I loved the first place...

You could always do what my college housemate did and buy a used king mattress at Salvation Army for $50.

Just the thought of that makes me itchy.

Edit: TOP!
