I know what im gonna do when it comes time...real estate investment.

The majority of successful docs are smart businessman, don't limit yourself to just being a doc.

you can easily bring half a mill home as being a doc and what not, but if you want to roll in top dollars, you can and absolutely should invest. 👍 make your money work for you.

ehh not easy, it's hard work and long hours for them to bring in half a mill, even if there lucky. Hopefully in the future it won't get worse because I've heard that ortho-spine for example is making a decline and starting to project their salary similar to other ortho specialties.

But yea top dollars, you gotta be smart
 
I want to apply to Cali schools. Too bad they probably favor their own residents over OOS.

of course they do, a lot of med schools there to accommodate how many in-state applicants apply. Same with Texas.

I wouldn't waste my money unless you think you have a chance.

Yeah, but it would be nice to get a change of scenery if possible. I won't be picky unless I have the luxury to, but it would be kinda nice to get in somewhere out of state. I seriously doubt it would be as cheap as in state tuition for texas schools though.
 
i want to stay in state for med school, but if not I really want to go to the east..like boston..nyc..

yea it def won't.

Man i feel ya, i was like that at first wanting to go OOS. I've been living in Texas my whole life, I even commute to UG. Nothing special, i just wanna leave. But honestly you gotta think about how going OOS will affect you money wise. You def don't wanna pull out a crap load of loans,m then once your done that's all your doing is paying them back. Stay in-state then when it comes time for RESIDENCY then that's the best time to go anywhere in the U.S you want, maybe even the place you plan on living.

At first i was like nah I'm not wanting to say in-state, but you start to realize man once you get an acceptance you 'll just be glad that your in regardless where you are.
 
I'm probably going to end up staying in state since my ECs are mediocre and assuming my GPA and MCAT score stay where they are at right now, an out of state school would be kind of hard to get into. I just really hate the boring Texas landscape.

crappy weather, nyc= cramp/pollution, no fresh air.
Boston= very expensive, more expensive then cali i beleive.

Yeah exactly. I will apply literally everywhere for MD school and take what I can get. Then I'll just work my butt off for residency and go somewhere else. I sure as hell don't want to practice in Texas if I can avoid it.

i feel ya, but you'll be glad you got in somewhere, and at least there's a lot of med schools in Texas.

I've heard from someone that Cali residents get free med school if they go to a state school. Was he just joking, or is that true?

And I take that back. I sure as hell don't want to go to El Paso or Lubbock for med school. I'll apply there, but I will stay away unless I have to go.

I'm not sure about that in Cali, but i doubt anything is free in this country especially med school.

Yea, I'm def applying there as well obviously.

Be sure to rank your schools accordingly on the Texas application, like rank them very low, because if you rank them high and get accepted there, that's where you will attend.

This is how ill rank mine, personal preference;
-UT Southwestern
-Baylor
-UT Houston
-UT Galveston
-UT San Antonio
-Texas A&M
-Texas Tech Lubbock
-Texas Tech El Paso

SW (Dallas is kinda expensive so I think it would be cheaper for me to stay in Houston)

UT SA
ATM
Tech
UTEP

And then I'm going to apply to like 3 cali schools for funsies, along with Hopkins and Harvard haha. Maybe a few more just for the hell of it.

cool cool, yea i live in Dallas so i could commute to UTSW.

Yea I'm a apply to a few OOS such as Florida schools, maybe some friendly OOS in Virginia. And the DO school in Texas--UNT for back up.

lol....that's what's wrong with the Texas system.

The idea of having low tuition is to entice people to come to the state to practice medicine, but then students leave for residencies elsewhere at the first opportunity :laugh:

If you're bored of Texas, living in the Dallas area for four years of med school certainly isn't going to help. :meanie:

🙁 that's a shame. It's probably cause of all the Asians. after all, UCLA stands for "U C Lots of Asians"😛

@torshi - Yeah, I'm gonna apply to some DO schools just in case, but I don't know if I'll take it. The goal is to be a doctor, but I personally would rather get an MD than a DO. I guess pride is an issue with me. (I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with a DO degree.)
