Not really. My parents are somewhat detached even though they try(a little) to micromanage my life...They generally just ask how I am doing. My freshman year my mom said she wanted to see my transcript but I said no....she said she would stop paying for college and I called her bluff 😀

Also I made a lot of deals with them when I was choosing college. I wanted to go to another school but in exchange for going to the closer school they agreed to let me live on campus, promised to be less nosey and let me keep my car. Looking back I am really glad they persuaded me to go to this school because I had rather foolish reasons for wanting to attend the other school 😳

Haha. My dad used to give me such a hard time anytime I mentioned a friend that was a girl. Recently though they have left me alone about it......I think they secretly know the truth even if I have not come out to them yet.

She just laughed. She was actually curious because she was making a bet on my MCAT score. She also asked how my other friends scored and then ranked me in comparison to them 🙄

My dad is the same way! He keeps asking why I want to go in medicine because its "not a good way to make a living." And if I don't have a job for 5 mins he insists on sending me links to places that are hiring.

ohhh my parents are frusturating. they think they know eveyrtthinnng (especially about health/medicine) they're always wrong..doubtt that i will change their mind when i become a doc :lame:

im sure they will change once you become a doc because you can explain to them why they are wrong and if they argue then you know they are jus hatin! :laugh:

Nah but that would be messed up, it's like you go 8+ years of school for medicine and your parents still think you don't know...sad...i honestly would get pissed.

I call my parents almost everyday at school, but we don't talk about that much. It's usually my parents telling me about financial problems and me getting my motivation back everyday. I want to give them the best care possible when I'm older so that they can enjoy their lives for once after working so hard for decades 🙁

Yeah, my dad is the same way. I honestly believe that if I don't try hard to do well in school, that I'm wasting my parents' hard-earned money. If I work really hard and earn a B, then yes, it's okay, I've worked hard and haven't wasted their money. But if I slack off and waste their money, there's literally no point in me being at college. College is an amazing social and cultural experience, and has shaped me into the person I am, but at its core it's an academic experience, and the classes I take and how I perform in them are ultimately so important. My parents aren't paying ridiculous sums of money for me to go sleep in a dorm, hang out with peeps, and dance. That's a huge part of what I do, and I love every second of it, but ultimately studying and trying to do well needs to be a priority, at least for me.

my parents gave up on me. they're like whatever, it's your future. do what you want.

My parents say i shouldnt work and focus more on school because of med school etc.

But i thought i could do some small work during the weekends to keep myself busy and they said only if you can handle then yea sure go ahead.

My parents work so hard, it's crazy. I worry about them: how long can they keep working this hard? They went from absolutely nothing 20 years ago to actually doing relatively well for themselves, which is way more than you could say for their other Russian immigrant peers. It was just their work ethic and intelligence that got them this far. My dad should honestly just be an M.D. for the amount he knows about medicine. He's the only P.A. in his entire 30-practitioner clinic who has his own patient pool, has only a nominal supervising physician, and essentially acts as a physician, but gets paid like a P.A. He's the man 👍

He sounds awesome 👍👍 I wonder sometimes how long a person should have to work before they can retire. The current age for retirement is just crazy. You'll end up dead before you can retire -_-

my parents were immigrants too, worked really hard, and do relatively well.

I'm sorta like this with my mom. She listens to all of my complaints and neurotic ramblings during the school year, at any rate. My parents are a funny mix. My dad's the one who tells me to take the logical route, my mom's the one who tells me to "follow my heart." I tend to opt more for the latter, but sometimes wonder if it leads me to foolish decisions. I let my emotions get in the way too much sometimes, and I realize it... I feel like every decision I make is the wrong one sometimes. =/ Sorry I'm rambling now. I'm taking prednisone for poison ivy so I'm rather moody. It's the equivalent of PMSing or something. 🙁😀:cry:

Oye, jobs. My dad's funny. He tells me not to work to focus on my school work, then he wonders why I'm several thousand dollars in credit card debt even though he doesn't pay for a ton of my expenses, and he doesn't get why I'm depressed as hell as a commuter and decide to live on campus. Omg. I'll srsly shut up now. I should just go to bed when I get like this. I'm gushing my emotions out to strangers like a complete *****. 😳

i agree. I do things on emotional whims. hence why i hate myself when i'm in a relationship 👎 i become a dumb turkey.
