Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey whats up Procyon? Not yet.. I have taken 2 practice exams though and I got a 32 and 33 (btw what did you guys use to study for PS?)

I asked if it was december yet because because i just started classes this fall and I am already tired because of the heavy load from the summer 🙁

🙁 Aw, well I'm sure that you will make it through. You got this, bro.

Our year will probably randomly bump up the MCAT average for accepted applicants at most schools. And then when 2018 applies, they'll think everyone got dumber.

16 units of chemistry, two art classes, and a spanish class

hola como estas?
you? 🙂

As a diehard Spanish major, I am personally proud of all of you who decide to ever take a Spanish class. Just take it seriously, though. Saberlo es quererlo! I could totally be a walking advertisement for the Spanish major:

"Español: descúbrase en sí la pasión de su vida"

(Español: la pasión de su vida is not a registered trademark of SDN and may be used in any present or upcoming commercial on any TV channel ever)

So tired 😴😴 Such a rough 2nd day of class. Got like 400 pages of readings to do 🙄 Time to order books on amazon 😛

Como se dice mami en ingles?

What verb tense is descúbrase in? And does the translation of that phrase mean "Discover if there is any passion in your life" ?

Buen provencho! Buena suerte!

Hahahaha, wow, I'm only now starting AAMC 11. Such delays, such delays... mostly due to neuroticism. But anchors away, time to tackle this beast!

Mami is like... a slang term for "babe" or "chick" in Spanish. Like papi, but for females, haha.

Hahahaha NOOOO that would be a really depressing slogan 🙁 It meant "discover in you the passion of your life". Descúbrase is the formal command tense. Descubrir-->descubre (informal command)-->descubra (formal command)-->se (because I felt like it, mostly 😎) and then "en sí" is "within oneself".

Buen provecho!

I MISS SPANISH ALREADY.

I wish the MCAT tested Spanish. Then studying for it would make me happy instead of neurotic 😕😕:scared::scared:

I took 4 years of spanish and tested into advanced-intermediate. I speak Spanglish at any occasion I get, one of my fave languages ^_^ I'm hoping to take a Medical Spanish class, but it's not available right now no se porque :/

Good luck! I thought you liked physio!

I took 4 years of spanish and speak.....almost nothing. I want to try and learn conversational spanish during my gap year.

Yeah, I love physiology pretty much as much as I love Spanish. But unfortunately physiology isn't on every MCAT, and Spanish is on no MCAT's 🙁

Just took AAMC 11's PS: holy crap was that challenging, but in a weirdly satisfying way. I felt like I had a decent grasp of most of the major concepts it drilled us on, and I was majorly time crunched but caught up at the end. Overall, I have no idea how I did but I felt better about this one than I have about previous ones. Which means nothing.

Off to do my now second least favorite section, Verbal... I'm just waiting for BS to start.

Yeah, I'm afraid of how fast my Spanish will diminish after not taking it next semester. Poetry writing better be worth it.

You guys should all take Spanish, Spanish, and more Spanish! It's an incredibly beautiful and poetic language, AND it's really practical. It's actually surprising, I never thought of Spanish as poetic, but there are so many ways to express yourself in Spanish, poetically, that aren't possible or aren't as heightened in English. I don't know, it's amazing. I love it!

Spanish sounds exotic and sexy. I wish I took it instead of Italian. 😎

Rock that FL, KPaw! Make us proud!!! Time to go back to class and watch a movie 😛

Thanks broski!!! Just finished Verbal, skipping the Writing Sample because I'm a lame-o, and about to do BS, so almost there! I hope to!!! Bring it on MCAT. I'm sure the BS will be murder (I've heard horror stories about this one) but WHATEVS.

Ooooooh yeah, how are your classes going? You're taking some cool ones, right? Remind me what you're taking again 😳 The film stuff sounds awesome, I'm sooooo ready to write poetry 24/7. Like, I'm going to be in this dude's office hours all the freaking time until he likes my poetry. He is going to teach me more than he ever wants to about writing poetry, because poetry is freaking awesome and I want to write it well 😀

Yea KP, get it!!

Assume you're digging the film classes? 😀

Thanks, Proc!!!! I can't believe this is my last practice test, haha. This is almost... nostalgic. I'll miss going to my public library and being brain-gangbanged by the AAMC twice a week, hahahaha 😎

I really want this BS section to ask me about estrogen's bone-reformative capability. Please, AAMC 11, please? Do it. Just do it. You know you want to :scared:

Hahaha, doubt you'll miss it that much. I didn't know estrogen could do that, that's cool. 😱 Also, can I read your awesome poetry when you make it?

What math do you guys suggest reviewing before I start physics? I'm so rusty with math, but I don't know what I need to review haha.

The BS section of AAMC 11 played to my strengths and that definitely isn't estrogen reforming bones. =P

Hahahaha YEAH, my endocrinology internship PI taught me that estrogen (and testosterone) actually acts as an osteoblast activator of sorts, so more calcium is integrated into the bone matrix. So that's why women after menopause get osteopenia--> osteoporosis, because they essentially stop producing estrogen, which leads to a low mineral😳rganic matter ratio in their bone matrix, leading to a low bone density, leading to the disease. Osteopenia is just a lesser form of osteoporosis, which is the full-blown disease. This is also why men are less prone to getting osteoporosis, because we don't really go through a point in our lives when we stop producing testosterone so dramatically (once you stop having your menstrual cycle, there are no mature follicles/corpi luteum to secrete estrogen). This is like my favorite topic evar, hahaha.

Hmmmmm for physics, are you taking calc-based or algebra-based? For algebra-based, just do a ton of practice problems once you start actually taking the class, your algebra skillz come back. Don't bother reviewing that. For calc-based... good luck, because I suck epically at math and would fail calc-based physics :scared:

Oh, and OMG, I got a 36 on AAMC 11!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 PS, 12 VR, 14 BS!!! Wtfux. I thought I aced PS, did well on verbal, and did averagely on BS. This score breakdown makes nooooo sense, but whatever, MCAT here I come! Please give me a 32 and I'll be happy!!!! 😀😀😀

HAHA! I TOLD YOU YOU WOULD BE FINE! SEE! Listen to me! And nice BS!

whew! taking a break from studying! 😴

saving ochem for last. 👍

prob gonna eat something before i start for that tonight.

thank god my two neuroscience courses compliment each other, semi same info but thats just in the beginning... 👎

I needa study for bio 2 more then i am ;/ meiosis is sorta confusing compared to mitosis...ahh genetics 👎

and physics.... idk lol i kinda know everything up to rotational...well at least i think i do. prob gonna put some hard azz questions on the test in the future, the test will cover 5 chapters

finished my lab report for physics....and damn that just reminded me i needa get ready for my bio lab tomorrow ;/

gotta read that real quick.

Great job KPaw!!!!

And yes PS on AAMC11 is definitely the hardest. I think it was most representative of what showed up on the real deal though :scared::scared:

Wow, I find it really awesome how fascinated you are about classes 😀😀 I'm taking 3 film classes. One is about comedy, one is about jazz, and the third is just film theory. I'm really looking forward to it. Also taking physics 2. I got my schedule for TAing and it's gonna take up a lot more time than I imagined. Same thing with my club position :scared::scared:

I took 4 years of spanish and speak.....almost nothing. I want to try and learn conversational spanish during my gap year.

I think I kept it because I also speak French which is similar.

You're taking a gap year? I may be leaning that way because I don't feel in control of things. I'm waiting until I study for/take the MCATs and depending on that we'll see..... argh so stressful this all is. But worth it.. eventually.

That's awesome!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍 That trend of better and better scores is really great. You're gonna get a 38 on the real deal!!!! 🙂🙂

Omg Torshi don't die!

I'll try not too! the only thing that sucks is trying to find time to study.

and my bio courses are at night on tu/thur which rule out those two days for studying...

just trying to stay sane.

Yes. I am a rising senior now 🙂

That's so cool. Now I've learned interesting factoids to help me in endocrinology this semester. :meanie: I dunno if my physics is calc-based or not. My school just divides it as physics for engineering/physics majors and physics for everyone else. I'm with "everyone else" so I guess it's mostly up to the instructor. 👎

lol. I literally just sat down and taught myself that. That random stuff we were doing with trig functions in calc II makes so much more sense now. 🙄 Don't ask me how I got through two semesters of calculus without even having done algebra II in high school.

Haha thanks GooseWing!!!! Yeah... PS was brutality, but I just plugged through the best I could. I ended up doing very borderline, but what can I do about it now. One day out, and I'm okay with it. Damn that STINKS, the real deal is similar to AAMC 11's PS?????? Aaahhhhhh that's horrible. Oh well, just have to have a good attitude and it'll go okay. Wow.

That's awesome!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍 That trend of better and better scores is really great. You're gonna get a 38 on the real deal!!!! 🙂🙂

Hahaha, I think it's actually a trend of a 33-34 average with fluctuations depending on how lucky I get with Verbal and topics tested on the sciences, but honestly, if I get a 32+ I'll be VERY happy I don't have to take it again!!! Thanks man!!!!!!!!!! I'm soooooooo ready to just get rid of this thing!

HAHA! I TOLD YOU YOU WOULD BE FINE! SEE! Listen to me! And nice BS!

Heehee I SHOULD LISTEN TO YOU. "Tatertots is always right" is my new mantra for life 😎

Overall, PS was atrociously difficult, VR was actually easier than some other AAMC's (there were no economics, psychology, or philosophy passages), and BS was more focused on interpreting passages rather than recalling random facts. The infamous ebola passage wasn't THAT bad. It had a few WTF-type questions, but it wasn't as bad as some of the PS passages...

ONE. MORE. DAY. I'mma flashcard it up tomorrow with mah momma all relaxed-like.

Hahahaha, don't worry, I'm not excited for my Genetics or Statistics classes AT ALL, so my Poetry and Biochem classes are getting 100% of my excitement. Bleh, requirements. Oh well. THREE film classes? Hot damn, that's a lot. Do you have any pre-med reqs left to take/any science classes left?

Yeah, club positions are simultaneously very, very rewarding (for certain clubs) and very, very time-consuming. It's only worth it for clubs you truly enjoy. What club are you an officer for? If it's the Pre-Med Society I won't judge you.... too much 🙄

SU, you've been quiet lately! You must have been studying your arse off, haha, unlike me. How's your prep coming along/how are you feeling?

Yeah bro. With the MCAT studying and new school week, I've had literally no time to get on SDN in the last few days. 🙁 I took AAMC 10 and got 32, which pushed up my AAMC average to a... 32 haha. I'll be really happy to get a 32 in the actual thing!

How about you? Are you ready? Nervous? (I hope not) :scared:

Pretty much a bunch of readings and watching films of influential jazz musicians and the likes. I still don't have all the specifics 😛

YOU HAVE AN ENDOCRINOLOGY CLASS AT YOUR SCHOOL??????? I may hate you now forever. All we have is Biochemistry II: Metabolism and the soon-to-be-discontinued Immunology. Oh, and "Biology at the Extremes", which is a whole freaking class about Archaea bacteria. We seriously have more ecology electives than we do in anything remotely related to human biology, it's kind of depressing. 👎thumbdown

No, it's for community service club 🙂 I still have physics 2 and orgo lab...and the second english class. I think that's about it. I think I'll be taking microbio, genetics, and stuff in the future for fun. 🙂

Wow, that's awesome. We have eerily similar testing patterns man... my AAMC 10 score was a 33 😱

And overall my AAMC average was a 33.3333 (every 3 freaking counts 😡), with a definite upward trend towards the end).

Me too, a 32 would make me happy. Even if I get a balanced 30, I probably won't retake. There's just no way that a semester of "studying" will get me anywhere above that if I can't get a 30+ right now...

Right now I'm okay, but it fluctuates. I've been pretty sick recently, so I don't know. We'll see how I feel when it comes, I guess...

Did you take AAMC 11? And whoa, school's started for you already???

No, it's for community service club 🙂 I still have physics 2 and orgo lab...and the second english class. I think that's about it. I think I'll be taking microbio, genetics, and stuff in the future for fun. 🙂

Yeah, there were so many bio classes I wanted to take for fun that I just decided to make it a major. The only real sacrifice that requires is taking Genetics, which is unfortunately a REALLY useful class to have under your belt anyway, so I'll be better for it. Also, I won't be able to study abroad, but that's more to do with being pre-med than a double major, though the double major definitely contributes. I just couldn't imagine life without biology and Spanish, so I figured those were the natural choices of major, haha.
