How's everyone's financial aid coming along?
I've submitted my FAFSA and am half way through my needaccess... very confused.
Am I behind?
Did FAFSA ~1 month ago with prelim data, did CSS/PROFILE a couple of weeks ago, did NeedAccess last weekend. NeedAccess is a beast.
What's this CSS profile thing?
Kk, just checked. Not sure I will need to fill this out. Is it only a minority of schools that require it?
Yeah, I don't think it's that common; I only did it for one school.
Do schools confirm with you when they receive all your fin. aid material? Or do you just assume they have received it?
I've heard confirmation from one and silence from others, so I'm not sure what the standard practice is.
I need to get on my loans stuff soon. Trying to see if I should go with variable rate, or fixed rate.

Seriously? You would go with variable interest rate with how much debt you are putting yourself in (assuming you are the average medical student)? Why?
Aren't all federal loans fixed rate....?
He is probably talking about getting a private loan.
I feel like that's not the norm.......
It isn't. Most people take the higher federal rate because of the repayment plans. IBR is pretty sweet. Plus, not leaving a debt to family if you die is nice. Not paying interest in school is awesome. Etc.

I have private loans in undergrad that are forgiven if I die. I guess it depends on the lender.
Anyways...

I died at the Instagram comment, because I would totally say and do that.

Really really good points. Getting a private loan in lieu of federal loans for medical school is a terrible idea.

Really? That's cool. Creighton told us about a 4th year student that died by a drunk driver when taking his kid to school. His wife lost them both and got his student loan bill of $200,000+ all because of private loans.
Yeah, luckily some private loan companies (Sallie Mae, wells Fargo) now do loan forgiveness for a cosigner if the student borrower dies or becomes permanently disabled.

👍 I just found this out recently in another thread. I was afraid that if I or my ex died that we'd be stuck with each other's loans. Good to know that's not the case. I had taken out over half a mil in life insurance to ensure she wouldn't have to deal with it and would be comfortable. Can't wait to not be insured, stupid rule about only being able to change it once a year...hmph...Yeah, luckily some private loan companies (Sallie Mae, wells Fargo) now do loan forgiveness for a cosigner if the student borrower dies or becomes permanently disabled.

👍 I second this motion. All in favor? Aye
Hahahaha!! Loved it!
Oh, and Impermanence, I still don't think the biostats would help you much unless you wanted to research new biostatistical methods. You'll learn all you need to know within the degree if you want to do any type of public health or epi. Does that make sense?
No idea what you're talking about, agent. Lol.
what's everyone up to today? rest of the week?

Hahaha, it's amazing how many people know about that and have been adding to the crowd's nudging.Aye.
Now get back to work (OHSU write-up).
Yup, after reading your PM I totally agree. But to others that may be considering, she's definitely in a unique niche. One of my mentors, public health professional, thinks it is a good idea. I'll PM you details. 🙂
Today, I work and promptly see a family member afterward to learn more about why he hid that he was on chemo for the last two weeks to treat what I was told was a benign brain tumor a year ago. Cancer/disease can make people behave in very unusual ways...too bad this is his normal behavior...what's everyone up to today? rest of the week?
My pops has a place in Tahoe. I'm so jealous. I wish I were there right now.Writing and working, writing and working.
Went snowboarding in tahoe this past weekend though. My body is recovering.
