Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Good job UW, site placement choice 3 of 3. Making my choices easier. 🙁

Got the email about an hour ago, pretty annoyed to get my last choice. I guess it has to happen to somebody though.

You didn't hear yet?

Not yet...

Did you end up in Pullman?

Yeah.

Nothing against Pullman, but I already lived in a town of 30k for undergrad and while it had some advantages I don't plan to do it again (not to mention don't plan on making my gf move there). Sort of hard not to be a little bitter when my application makes it obvious that my ties in WA are entirely in Seattle and my interest in UW is in the academic medicine side and not rural/primary care. But apparently these assignments are based on our ranked choices, lol.

Then again, perhaps it's a blessing in disguise as it makes my choices easier. On the flip side I'm not really sure whether or not we can contest these placements. Prior experiences with UW administration make me think that it's highly unlikely.

Was the email from the Moscow/Pullman staff suggesting places to live?

Maybe that means I didn't get placed there...

But seriously, Pullman is pretty cool. If you want to come see what it is like, PM me and I can show you around and what the WWAMI building is like including the cadaver lab.

The email was from a main SOM email account, not Pullman staff.

And yeah, like I said, Pullman is no doubt a nice town (actually, probably way nicer than the one I was in for undergrad), it's just smaller than what I'm looking for.

Was it signed by Sarah at the bottom?

Maybe they just let people know in batches? Perhaps Pullman heard first? I have no idea. 🙁

Nope. UWSOM Office of Admissions.

Well, I hope for the best. I hope this means that I am placed in Seattle. If I am placed in Spokane we can ask for them to switch us. Then, if you don't want to attend UW still, withdraw.

ugh 4 exams all crammed into 3 days and I'm getting extremely overwhelmed. This coming week is going to suck hardcore.

Anyone else thinking about their budget yet? What are you thinking you will spend on COL each month? I think that i can cover all expenses with $1000/month. So for a year I can get away with $12000, and maybe add a little more for emergencies. Also, I'm thinking I may take more the first year so that I can offset moving expenses and other misc. I am trying to minimize loans since I have loans from ugrad and I have a full tuition scholarship.

Thought about it. Got headache. Stopped thinking about it.

But your post reminded me about my goal to make a basic budget sheet and plan things out. Need to get on that. And your COL sounds nice and low, kudos. Would be unrealistic for many. I'd leave some room for emergencies and a chance to spoil yourself once in a while

I'm doing 600 a month w/o rent. It's worked out pretty well throughout my UG so I'm hoping it'll still be a comfortable amount.

My rent will only be $410 because I decided to take on roommates. And the city has a relatively low COL. After much calculating, I will only be taking out about $88000 total student loans for my med education! 🙂 I still have hefty loans from ugrad and grad school but I'm still graduating with less than $200000 loans total.

Lol... really? not even a story? How about today's latest viral pic.

Are there any females around that would be willing to answer my silly question?

Any thoughts on the most efficient way to carry things to class/future clerkships? Tote bag? Backpack? Am I over thinking?

For class, I'd imagine it's pretty much the same as undergrad... Anything works.

For clerkships, get a coat with lots of pockets.
