Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Pubmed is giving me errors, can't open this article: transcriptome profiles of high and low antibody responders to smallpox vaccine

I want to know how they look at the genetic profiles! CHIP?? Oh, I just re-cheked, the article is ahead of print... that makes sense.

For any genetics/immuno fans:
"How well people are protected by the smallpox vaccine depends on more than the quality of the vaccination: individual genes can alter their response, Mayo Clinic research shows." You can read the news article here.

As an immuno fan and someone sitting in the Mayo Medical School basement right now: cool!

This goes with just about anything, not just smallpox.

Late to this but congrats, Tots!!! :hardy: :hardy:

I'm so excited that we're all getting close to the end of this application journey and to our decision making! Time to break out the champagne. Since I have the day off today, maybe it's mimosa time :naughty: 😉

👍 I like how you think!

👍

I'm more concerned about the media falsely accusing innocent people. The media is pure evil.

I totally agree. I read a story about the falsely accused people of being afraid to go outside because people recognize them from the photos.

What a shame.

Haven't you heard James Bond: never trust a man who boasts a full Windsor.

Because I am tall, a double Windsor looks the best on me. My tie is probably double the length of a normal tie, so I need a knot that is about double the size.

The joys of being over six feet tall.

Why did it just flash across CBS news online that Dzhokhar is a Medical Student? Oh lawd, please no!

Dzhokhar is a second-year medical student in the U.S. He is such an intelligent boy. We expected him to come on holidays here," the father said.

Have they found anything concrete? Not just "we are different" but what differences correlate with the different response? Also, do you know much about women vs men responses to vaccines? 😛

Hmm idk. I'm more into Neuro 😛. I just know that your genes determine the specificity of your antibodies and these can be affected by multiple things: heritage, gender, environment, etc. I don't know the specifics as I have not looked into it whatsoever, but everyone reacts to foreign substances in their bodies differently. It's about finding vaccines that are effective for MOST/almost all people.

Yup but I do wonder if being female vs male makes a big difference... will have to read more about it later.

Also, a good news article on H7N9: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20130418/as-china-bird-flu/?utm_hp_ref=green&ir=green

Yeah, pre-med sounds more likely. But they are still scrolling the med student piece per his father.

The media is dumb. Take anything they say with a grain of salt and think actively about what they say, not passively. They can say whatever they want, and people take it as truth. Sad.

The media is run by corruption. The media won't rest until they successsfully achieve their goals.

Oh LiveLoveLearn, have you figured out how I knew you were a female yet?

Sometimes catching up on SDN is more fun than catching up on readit. 🙂

Fine.
