My sister's ~20lb dog gets really nervous and pukes on car rides, so she gives him half a Dramamine tablet (so 25 mg, I think) an hour or so before they go. He calms down for a few hours after that. Just did a quick google search and it looks like 12.5mg - a quarter tablet - is the dose for a cat. Just an idea 🙂

I'm fortunate that I'm only moving my cat - and my stuff - something like 5-10 miles...

I'm going to try to use kitty Xanax that I received from my vet. I really hope it works because he starts panting like a dog after about 5 miles in a car.

I may try this if the Xanax doesn't work. Although, I don't think he gets sick because he has never vomited after a car ride. I think it just scares him or something.

Oooh, good advice! I'll let someone else be the one giving them the pills though 😀

5-10 miles, nice! You can walk your cat that distance. Cat leashes = hilarious.

Just because it's impossible to have a yard here -- at least when you take into account all of our other living reqs.

Cats aren't so bad! I only got on board after owning my own. Plus we bought them as kittens and raised them as if they were dogs. That helped with all of the cat personality reservations I had 😛
 
When I used to work on computers I worked with a guy who would get severely short of breath if I opened the computer of a cat owner. If I were that bad I think I'd carry an epipen with me at all times.

Haha yeah she is applying early decision to the school that I will be attending. But it's not entirely because I am going there. All of her family is in that city and she wants to go back there.

She still has another year left for her master's program so we will be apart for the year. I agree that it will be straining, but at least we will only be 70 miles away. I also have to go through AAMC again 🙁 so I can do it right along with her 😛.

my fiance and i are doing a year-delay as well. I'm gonna head off to school while she stays local to look for a job, work for a year, etc. Then after we get married she'll join me. Not looking forward to the long-distance engagement, especially since at this point i'm headed all the way across the country! (unless WL movement is kind to me!)

I count it as a blessing though, that she'll just come with me wherever once things are settled--not looking forward to going through apps and all the hoping to get in the same place!

Oh man, I don't mean to rant but my situation with my boyfriend is really stressful in relation to this. He's also pursuing medicine, but he'll be two years behind because his school failed to mention that there was a premed committee he had to go through/strict timeline, etc. We'll be apart this coming year, then hopefully he'll find a job near me during his application year. His GPA is fairly low, he's taken a few years off, transferred, and recently decided he wants to do medicine so he has catching up to do with shadowing/clinical hours, etc. He'll be applying next cycle for MD, DO, and PA all at the same time, but there's absolutely no guarantee he'll get into a program near me so that we could realistically get married.

If anyone read that and has any insights or encouragements, I appreciate it.

Are you going to school in a state with lots of options? I know Philly, Chicago, and NYC have tons of schools all clumped up in one general area. If you happen to end up there odds are a lot higher that he could join you as opposed to somewhere like Rochester.

Haha no need to apologize, rant all you want!!

Does Penn State have an ED program? Even if it does, it is still a major risk to do as if he doesn't get in he cannot submit applications to other schools until October. Either way that is a tough situation. My SO and I have chosen to take it one day at a time next year and not think too much about what the future holds.

Maybe he can try and get in a research lab at your school or some how try and become affiliated with the hospital in some way? That would certainly help his chances.

Yeah, I think it really depends on the area. I was stoked to be able to stay on the same coast as my girlfriend... 400 miles instead of 3000. Or quick direct flights instead of long flights with layovers.

Penn State. Which is about 1.5 hours from Philly, so we could theoretically live in the middle, but that's still a bit far away from both schools.

He's going to try to get a job at Hershey Medical center after he graduates, while he's applying, but some schools don't really favor that, right? Is there anyway we could do like a "peer recommendation" or something? Or is that sketchy?

Oh the times zones. We usually talk at 10pm my time, while it is 7pm his time 🙁 so looking forward to not having to tell him "mmm, it is getting kid of late here..." #thestruggleisreal
