Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Ugh my roommate cashed my rent check before the date I wrote on it and now I have a sizable negative amount in my checking account. It's ridiculous how expensive overdraft fees are.

The struggle is real.

Once I went into the bank, told them to close my account. They cashed everything out and said I was good to go. A few days later something was refunded into my account automatically(had no idea this was gonna happen) and I had like 1$ in my account. So what does the bank do? Charges a 5$ fee since I have less than 500$ or something. So of course since I didn't have to 5$ in the account I got slapped with 34$ overdraft fee...it was frustrating for an account I didn't even want anymore.

I've been slapped with so many OD fees, I've lost count. Seemed like every time I turned around, I had miscalculated something or a fee I had no idea, etc.

Well, a few years ago, my bank changed its OD policies because they "weren't fair." I woke up one morning and had a OD fee reversal of $350 in my account. Lol. I forgave them.

Rachelkj, I hope you get it! Let us know! I've been slacking on fb.
Congrats! 3 more weeks for me 😎
Grats! I have 4 weeks. I. CAN'T. WAIT!
Applying to med school was so complicated back then. One MD/PhD student told me everything had to be sent in via snail mail. Imagine sending in your primary and secondary apps by mail, then waiting for phone calls to tell you that you've been selected for an interview.

My mom told me that when you needed to register for courses in college, you had to stand in a 3-6 hour line to do so on one particular day.

It was essentially the Stone Ages back then.
Now imagine doing all of your research via Dewey Decimal System look up in the library and typing your essay via a manual type-writer. :scared: FTS!
Omg yes.

I'm thinking about changing mine to SirCrunkalot but I'm not sure if it's too long.
 DO EEEEEET!!!!!

Wow, how's that for some Karma!? That kicks sass!

Ouch. I would've come in and paid them by dumping a jar of 3900 pennies on the counter and saying "F you very much" as I walked out. 😎

Lol same here!

Welp...here comes 10 hours of back to back work & volunteer shifts. I gotta stop doing this soon.

:wow: That's insane! Did they at least drop the fees?

Where do you volunteer? I wish I could have found a good volunteering opportunity. Working full-time does not leave much time during the day...

I know I may have jumped the gun a bit, but I just sent off a security deposit check for a place on the East Coast while still wait listed at my top choice on the West Coast. Now I'm in this awkward transition period where I'm super excited to move in and start exploring a new city, but if I get in off my top choice I'd abandon all that and potentially lose my security deposit.

whoa. thats way better than me. I've just held off on doing anything to prepare for my school that i've gotten into on the east coast while I'm still on the WL. How long are you gonna hold out? I figure by end of June if I don't hear anything...it'll be time to find that apt 🙂

Been in that position. Ended up losing my security deposit though. In the end, it was worth it to snag my top choice!

You know it! Love the side profile 😍

Love the new avatar 😉.

I may be getting screwed out of money for no reason, but I just found an iPhone and found the guy it belonged to. If only I could use my good karma points to pay off overdraft fees.

I've found/returned two iPhones before. I'm hoping that karma pays off if/when I lose mine.

Sometime in the next 5 days I am going to find out if I won a really large (~12k per year) scholarship. I feel like my head is going to explode. It's like being a post-interview med school applicant all over again. I can't stop checking my phone...

Good luck!

Found housing, paid security deposit and first month's rent, got a bed and soft sheets. Bring it on med school 😎.

I still am working!

On a related note, I always thought our media smelled bad when autoclaved. Today, I opened up the autoclave and someone had autoclaved bran. Worst smell of my life.

Going on vacation today! Only bad thing is having to fly....man I get freaked out when I have to fly.

What in the...I just got invited to a preliminary planning meeting for a new elective course at my med school.

Has anyone considered using anki from the beginning of MS1? I've been reading up on it a lot over the past few days.

I am definitely going to give Anki a try. I seriously considered Firecracker as well (and will likely try the free month trial) but I was concerned about the apparent minor details that are included in the recall requirements. I read most of the Gunner Training thread (now Firecracker) and that appeared to be a significant concern.

It sounds interesting, I just don't know if I'll have the patience so make my own cards. Are you thinking about using your laptop to make them? and then review on phone/ipad?

Awesome!

Awesome. I am not done packing 🙁

I am still working until July 21 (includes most weekends). I just got accepted to my top choice and their orientation starts a week after I plan to officially resign.

On a semi-related note, I was pretty surprised at my acceptance today because of where I was on the wait list (broken up into tiers and I was on the bottom tier). Apparently, there was an error when I was told where I fell on the wait list and I was actually higher. Anyone ever hear of something like this happening?

Unusual and accompanied by many unexpected decisions to make.

I volunteer in the lab at a clinic in an organization that mostly serves homeless youth. I've been there over 3 years now! Last week I handed off a leadership position I've had for about 9 months, and I am leaving the rest of my volunteer stuff in 2 weeks. I also work on-call at the front desk doing intake...I don't really know when I should give my 2 weeks notice for that still.

I'm going to wait one more week and then just pretend I'm not even on the waitlist anymore. If I happen to get off of it after I moved then I guess I'll move back... :scared: My IS school ends up being nearly 10k cheaper a year anyhow so I'll save money in the long run.

Yeah definitely worth it! Congrats! 😀

Sounds like a pretty cool opportunity. I used to volunteer at Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, they are awesome. I'd really like to practice at a place like that some day.

wow. Yup, I am still working as well until the 11th but weekends are flexible... I just don't enjoy packing and I think I have too many books 😛

Congrats on your acceptance! Good luck with your next steps!

Omg I remember beta for matrix online....it was interesting.

Haha I don't remember beta but I know the game did become good. However a while back it shut down official servers for good. You can still play on a public hosted serve I believe. But I ain't got time for that no more. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I plan on continuing GW2 through med school. Lol.

That and Don't Starve. Hilarious game.

Whaaaat words are you people saying?? I feel like such a girl.

lol... yup. It's all good, I somehow managed to convince my bank to not charge me any overdraft fees, and I get paid on the 1st 😀

Nice work! I also have an overdraft sob story:

A few years ago, I made a ~$90 purchase knowing it would give me an overdraft fee. What I did NOT know is that my bank would rearrange the order in which it processed my purchases so that the ~$90 purchase would go through BEFORE some previous $4 and $5 dollar purchases I had made. (Yes, I use my debit card for everything). Long story short, I was charged an overdraft fee for each of these purchases even though I had sufficient funds to make all but the last (and biggest) one. I called my bank several times over a period of days to appeal to their humanity (slash ask them why the eff they processed the most expensive purchase first). Each time I called, their "system was down" and so they couldn't see what the overdraft fees were, but they gave me some bs story about how they always process the biggest charges first because they figure they are the most important. I swore up and down that I would quit that bank for being such a POS. Four years later, and I'm still a customer 😳
