Did I hear someone ask for a smiley? 😎

I LOVE these 😀

Kuntash and Agent B are the only non-bolded members. :scared:

Eh, I see quite a few non-bolded here actually. I'll be joining the donor club in a few weeks too. Hopefully a name change as well, if I can think of something good.

My inner graphic design snob says that boldface is ugly.

That shot was so freaking amazing. I was jumping out of my seat when that happened. That game was a nail biter, especially with those few horrible turnovers near the end of the game. Bosh was criminally underrated during the series because of his "bad box score"

I agree. Bosh wasn't letting anyone in his house at the end of that game!

What do you mean by progress? What does you workout routine look like and how long have you been lifting?

Progress as in I haven't been gaining weight. I work out certain things together like abs and back, shoulders and chest, bis and tris, etc.

Been lifting around 1 month consistently. Haven't gone to the gym in 2 days, which is the longest gap so far

Too busy with packing to go to gym it sucks
But I still have time to do my bike rides

I need to hire a personal trainer. The one I had flaked. And I know absolutely nothing about working out. Lol.

You need to eat more. If you haven't gained weight in a month while trying to bulk, you're not eating nearly enough. The rule I always hear thrown around is 40% carbs, 40% protein, 20% fat... but if you're skinny you really don't have to worry about fat, just that you're getting enough protein and calories (roughly 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day). Also you probably don't need creatine if you're just starting out... it might be more beneficial to use after you've been lifting consistently for a while.

What does your routine look like? How many sets/reps are you doing and how many different exercises?

And I'm all: I like pizza.

Lol. Seriously, where do you guys learn this? (I grew up without a dad, so don't judge.) lol

Honestly, friends and internet. It takes a lot of weeding through bullsh*t (kind of analogous to sdn), but there is an infinite amount of good information available for free online. The hardest part about starting out is probably learning good form... it can take a lot of time and effort, but if you're persistent it will pay off. You also have to not care about what anyone else is lifting or doing... the people that do usually try and lift too much weight and have terrible form.

👍

Before college I didn't have to worry about it. I played ball and was in good shape. Damn pre-med messed that up. Lol.

I've been doing p90x and have lost 40-50 lbs and gained a bit of muscle, but it's so boring. Lol.

Yep. Double what you're eating. Still not gaining weight? Double it again. Weight gain (at least, the kind of gain you want in this case) really boils down to operating at a calorie surplus while also exhausting your body so that the surplus is put towards muscle growth. Don't forget that your workouts will also consume calories so you'll need to eat even more to keep up.

The hardest part is sticking to it - it'll take years and years of dedicated lifting/diet to get tangible results.

Interwebs. Bodybuilding.com is actually a good source when you get past all of the trolls. There are also numerous fitness blogs and whatnot where people will post information - a lot of the time it can be misinformation, but the good stuff will generally rise to the top and be discussed a lot so you can evaluate things fairly.

Geez. I do good to make time for sdn. Lol. I need to bite the bullet and just do it.

👍👍👍

A lot like sdn actually.

Dude, 40 to 50 pounds is awesome... you should be really proud of that.

In terms of how boring it is... all I can say is that making progress after putting in a lot of work is one of the most gratifying things ever 🙂

Lol. I hear ya! I'd been working so much, it was hard. But I have time now. Wonder what I can get done in just one month? I'm going DO, so I have to be almost nekkid in OMM classes. Lol.

The PT was more for motivation than anything else. I need someone to push me it I won't do it. Lol.

YouTube is also a good source for looking at form for exercises. Especially for more technical/intense stuff like Bench Press, Squat, Deadlift and so forth.

I also did P90X for a while - it's great for weight loss but after starting powerlifting, I can really see why P90X only goes so far.

Well, I'm not really interested in being a beefy bodybuilder type. Just lean muscle. P90x did ok for a while, but I just hate at home workouts.

Lifting takes time to learn. I would concentrate on getting a good routine and using good form. Once you have that all you need is food and time.

You guys actually know your stuff when it comes to lifting/nutrition I'm impressed! Just to echo what you guys are saying, if you stop gaining weight only after a month you need to:
1. Eat.....a lot. Don't worry about gaining a little "dirty" weight. You can cut that off in the winter. However, you need to be eating big and need to be eating (mostly) clean.
2. Maintain routine. Dont over do it in the gym.
3. REST. This is the most important part. Personally, I feel 4 on 3 off during the week is the way to go. Maybe 1 of those off days hit cardio but thats it. Your body doesnt grow during exercise. It breaks. Resting builds the body stronger than before.
4. Body adaptation....its happening, although slowly only after a month. Soon, you will need to change some things up about your lifting regimen.

Research on teh internetz man. Bodybuilding.com and anabolicminds.com are the two best sources of info on the web about lifting/nutrition IMO.

I also like Testosterone Nation, but they can be a bit dick-ish about common questions. And yes, rest is key - you're only in the gym for so long. It doesn't stop once you leave, though so get your sleep!

I meant to ask this.. what info is displayed to other users? Can you pick a username after initial login and keep everything else hidden from others? Asking since you're required to use one of the other media platforms to reg/login.

Nothing personal is displayed. Once you log in they assign you a random name: User-xxxxxx, where xxxxxx is a string of letters/numbers. From there you can pick your own name. At no point is your Facebook/etc information displayed.

I get to drink in the middle of the week!! Hell yeah for friend's birthdays. Lol
