Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So the interest rates doubled today for undergraduates, but that doesn't matter anymore. What about professional students?

Stupid phone app. I tried to catch up but have no idea where I left off.

On that note, damn it feels good to drink on Monday!

I did that last Monday. 'twas a great night. Have to have some fun before the grind begins. Haha! Cheers!

Opened SDN tonight for the first time in a few weeks. Glad to see everyone is still here. Lol

I'd buy drinks but I have no time. Anatomy is a real whirlwind. Lol

Just had our first exam. It was pretty brutal. Looks like the class average on the didactic part was around 50%. That's before we get to challenge any answers though, and the practical portion of the exam should help boost that number. But still...

🙁

I am not looking forward to tests...

Yeah, it's like everyone says, the material itself isn't hard to understand, it's just the sheer volume that is a bit overwhelming.
Then again, this is just anatomy. Who knows what "real" med school classes will be like. Lol

How much are you studying right now? Are you pulling 15 hour days? Lol

Well, if you include the 2-4 hrs of lecture per day and the 5-7 hours of dissection lab then yeah I'm pulling 15 hr days most days. I'm also taking Saturdays a little easier and I never study on Sundays.
It's surprising when I check and see that I'm doing nearly 90 hours a week of class/study because it doesn't feel like that much. I have a really fun group of classmates though, and I think that helps a lot.

Excited and scared!

Wowza! Sounds like a lot, but at least it is finally stuff we can apply to our future careers. I hated taking all the random classes for my major.

This post actually made me feel a lot better about medical school.

Yeah, I loathed being forced to take classes in which I had absolutely no interest. Even though our basic sciences are hit and miss on what will actually apply in the clinical realm, they're at least relevant and necessary to establish a foundation of understanding.

Glad to see you're still alive! LoL

Me too! I'm so ready to get started in 3 weeks!

Think this thread will basically die around the first set of exams?

I'm ready to start at never o'clock.

I was actually talking with my wife about this the other day. If you could travel in time 7-9 years, so that you are done with residency would you do it? So essentially you have to give up 7-9 years of your life, but you are an attending.

Um yes.

Ummmm. Yes! (Sounds like a job for the Doctor!)

We are basically giving up that them anyway. Lol

That is assuming that this time we are an attending who had mastered our field. Ha

**** no. My body would be 7-9 years older. However, I would probably take this deal to skip residency but not school.

But you have to keep in mind that you won't remember those 7-9 years. You would lose a pretty good portion of your life.

Obviously I havent started yet but I would say no..then again, I enjoy suffering through things for some reason lol

I'm actually not sure what I would choose because I don't know how medical school/residency is yet. For all I know, it could be the best time of my life, even though that is doubtful. I was leaning towards skipping forward though.

Thats how I am right now. I just dont know yet haha

My fiancée is about to present for her masters. If she passes, she is done!

So I was thinking of training for a half-marathon, maybe in late fall and then I realized that the Seattle Marathon is in December. A couple years ago I trained for a marathon & that overlapped the first month of OChem...it was brutal. I'm not sure if I could handle marathon training overlapping the entire first term of med school. But then again I won't be working 20 hours/week + volunteering 16 like I was a couple years ago. But then again........med school.

Maybe see if some of your classmates are also thinking about doing it?

I've been wanting to do one of the Disney half mara's, but they are definitely at times when I would be back in class (i.e. not over winter/spring break) and I have no idea what my test schedule will be like :-/

That was my plan, but then I was like...will I actually have any time for this? I've heard from at least two people now that first term involves studying 10 hours per day outside of class, which barely leaves enough time to make myself food and sleep.

The group is secret, so you have to be FB friends with me for me to add you. PM me your FB and I'll friend you. Feel free to unfriend me after if you'd like.

Crap, we need facebook? I wanna be in that group because I love all of you so much, but Tots and you will say no and I agree.
