Class of 2017!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Drove 6 hours to Seattle yesterday. Now time to take my parents' FJ to get a uhaul trailer and drive 6 hours back to my house and pack.

By tomorrow evening I will be officially living in Seattle. Unfortunately I will not have Internet at my place for some time. However, Vegas on Monday!

Rant. . .

So, I recently got off the wait list at my top choice 🙂soexcited🙂, and I withdrew from the school I was going to attend the same day. I got an email today (almost 2 weeks later) from my school saying that AMCAS still shows that I'm holding multiple acceptances, and that if I don't notify the other school by Friday, they are going to give up my spot:scared: I reached out to the other school again, but they are being kind of non-responsive. . . I'm sure it will all be fine, but it is freaking me out!

Also, I think that I'm the only remaining 2017er still employed. . . 10 more days.

End Rant.

Don't worry still employee here! Working until school actually begins lol.

I can't stand looking at the pre allo threads anymore. I really wanted to be one of those med students who is as helpful as Nick Naylor, but I dunno how he can stomach the ridiculousness/entitlement complexes.

I'm hoping allo gets better once everyone is in school.

Absolutely.

I really find Nick to be highly condescending and judgmental. Not as big of a fan as a lot of people.

+1 I'm super bored at work, and try to entertain myself via SDN (I can't get to most other social sites on my work network), but find myself so utterly annoyed with most of the noise, that I actually prefer to return to doing productive work things. 👎

I was going to do that, but now that I'm moving cross-country, I had to cut it a little short. Only 8 working days left if you count today! Then, I get an entire 6 days in my new city before classes start on 8/5.

When do your classes start?

Is that a dig at Chiddy Bang, or were you autocorrected on an iPhone?

Oops - fixed that! Stupid iPhone autocorrect. . .

I'm having a goodbye party at my house later. I need to do so much cleaning and I'm procrastinating...

My roommate has promised to help for the last few days but he usually seems to think that stating an intention to do chores & actually doing chores are the same thing.

I don't blame Nick for being that way. He has every right to be condescending considering the redundant, arrogant personalities of premeds.

You're entitled to your opinion. I'm not sure we would be besties IRL, but on SDN I find him to be a breath of fresh air. I know his advice was indispensible for me.

I also start 8/5. Ugh it can't come soon enough...I know I will regret saying that after classes start lol.

Debating signing up for the Seattle Marathon. It's December 1. Having some structure in terms of a training goal might help me keep up exercise during med school but I worry that it would carve into my study time too much, particularly toward the end. I'm also going to be organizing a sizable conference that's happening in the Spring and I don't want to get myself overloaded. :scared:

Have any of you managed to significantly cut a marathon time? My last marathon I was in the "just finish it" mindset and I ran 11-minute+ miles (finished the marathon in 4:52). I'm wondering if it would be overdoing it to shoot for a 4-hour marathon by training at a 9-minute per mile pace. I am out of practice and getting through a 5k at 9 min/mile feels pretty hard right now.

I signed up for the Cape Cod marathon at the end of October. I find that having a structured training plan helps me to keep in shape, and actually helps me to study better because I don't really go out much (who wants to go have drinks the day before a 18 mile training run?). I have done a few before, and have been able to cut my time down quite a bit. Almost an hour is a lot, though, especially with how hilly Seattle is. How fast are your miles (normal, not sprinting) when you are just doing a normal shorter run?

The way that I was best able to get my speed up was to do more medium-length runs (6-10 miles) during the week, and not get up my long run mileage as much. For instance, many training plans have a couple of 20 or even 22 mile training runs in, but have very few medium-length runs. I never do more than an 18 mile long runs, and do enough medium ones to make 7 or 8 miles feel like my new normal. I also try to train in environments more difficult than that of the race (a little warmer and with more hills), so that the race terrain feels kind of easy.

Sauce from scratch?

I'm having a bourbon and watching Sharknado. Yes - that is a very self-explanatory title, and it has to be the most awesome terrible movie ever made, and has Tara Reid in it. This night 👍

I'm having some Hoegaarden and listening to music/reading. I somehow ended up listening to this Mexican duo who take Japanese anime songs and perform them in Spanish. What a long, strange trip..

I also feel the DOMS creeping up in my legs. Tomorrow is going to be a struggle.

EDIT: http://plug.dj/studentdoctor-network/ to tune in and chat.

But who are you to say that I should go DO or take time off because of my 20 withdrawals and obvious/admitted issues. I WILL BE A NEUROSURGEON!!!!! Anyone who says different is a @$$! Now, could you guys please give me some advise?

Haha you forgot the part where you literally tell everybody in the thread to go kill themselves or die in a ditch etc etc

Gahhhh! How dare you criticize me!!!! You are just a bleepedy bleepedy bleep that thinks your so awesome! I WILL BE GREAT!

Pacific Rim was much much better than I expected. The human acting was slightly horrible but thankfully most of the movie was CGI robots and aliens

I just got a PM where someone basically said, "I looked at your MDapps and your stats are not great, how did you get so many interviews"

Ouch.

When this occurs, it's usually best to go the colesmalls route and make a thread publically displaying the PM. :meanie:
