Didn't see you come in. Welcome to the c/o 2018 thread!

I'm sitting doing some trig revision for my final tomorrow night, i've just been watching this conversation from a distance, keeping my comments to myself lol

Welcome AymAyzing!

When you enter, watch for the sticky spots on the floor left by torshi and ozzi

And don't trip over the massive ego medicalmuscle left laying on the ground.

Really? Woop Woop!! How is D.C.? I live about 2 hours from there! Where do you go for UG?

D.C. is a nightmare. I live in NoVA but when I tell people where in NoVA I get the 😕 face, so I usually say D.C. . I am doing my A.S. at NVCC and i'll be transferring to GMU in fall next year to study bio. That's the plan anyway 🙂

How about you?

Haha I understand both sides of the NoVA thing. I used to live in Hampton, so when I moved to Richmond and people where like "Oh, I live in NoVA and such", I was like "...da f*ck?"

Right now though, I go to VCU

oh ok, that's cool. Yeah when I transfer the only thing I should have left to do is my upper level sci classes, the A.S. knocks out pretty much all the general requirements, and it's cheaper 😉

So the consensus is that it's OK to take pre-reqs at a CC?

That's the way to go. i did all my prerex at my local CC and transferred to my state undergrad where i'm taking upper level science classes. it's the best move i ever made. you have to make sure that you take upper level science classes at a 4 year uni to show medical schools that you can handle the rigors of a 4 year uni because some medical schools still view CC as less rigorous.

I am making my decision to stay in CC to get the A.S. based on financial reason. I figure with the amount of debt I am about to gain through med school (hopefully) I need to save wherever possible.

that's why i'm staying in Texas. med schools that are relatively easier to get into, lots of great schools and even better, the incredibly low tuition rates. Texas FTW

Yeah, that's ozzi in his avatar, too!!! OMG!

are you almost done with prerequisites ?

I graduate spring next year and about 60 credits transfer. But, I am going to take CC classes in summer before I start in fall. I am prior military so if I don't go to school my GI Bill won't pay me 🙂

BTW, how does the military medical experience look on an application?

it definitely looks good. can't really tell you more cuz i don't have experience with the military. since you're planning on saving money, you can always apply for the military scholarship in med school. they pay all your tuition but you have to serve them after graduation.

Hmmm, something I should take into consideration... if I get in 🙄

if your going into primary care or g surgery, then i say it looks good of a deal, but if your going for derm, rads em and stuff, bad move. military residencies are few in number and those spots fill up quickly. plus, you don't have control of your career.
