Hey guys, I'm working on a letter of interest/update letter to a school I've been waitlisted at and I need some advice. This school has been one of my top choices for a while and is my favorite school that I've interviewed at thus far. If I was done interviewing I would write a letter of intent to this school, but I actually have one interview left and therefore can't honestly say that I would go to this school over another one that I have not even visited yet. I think that I'll like the school that I'm waitlisted at more than the school that I'm going to be interviewing at... but its also a good program that I really like so I can't say for certain. What really complicates matters though is that the school I'm waitlisted at specifically said in their waitlist notification that they give special consideration to those for whom their school is their top choice.

I want to write the letter soon since, going off of last year's school specific thread, they should start admitting off of the waitlist anytime. My idea is to email the letter to my interviewer (who is also the dean of admissions) and say that although I'm not done interviewing, the school is currently my top choice. Do you guys think some permutation of this statement could work?

Yep, that sounds like a good plan. Just stating that a school is currently your top choice is not the same as stating intent to matriculate, so you won't be doing anything wrong if you later change your mind and decide not to attend said school. When you write the letter, I would recommend that you do NOT mention that you are still interviewing. (There shouldn't be any conditionals that come after "your school is currently my top choice.")

And if this school is still your top choice after you attend your last interview, I would follow up the first letter with a "real" letter of intent.
