Ouch. My L'East Coast trip is going to cost at least $800 in airfare. :drowning: Don't know how much will be taken off due to the miles I accrued, but it ain't going to be a pretty year for my bank account.

Anyone hear back from host programs yet? I know with classes starting up, host programs may not be up and running yet, but I'm trying to finalize travel plans.

Wow, seriously?! My most expensive airfare was $550-600! That's super pricy! At least you're limiting the amount of trips you're taking.

None of my schools have host programs yet. Rochester said week of the 26th, and I don't know about Brown.

Ouch. My airfare to Cali cost $400. Have you tried using different airlines for each leg? I'm saving $100 by riding US airways in one direction and Southwest in the other.

Thanks for the tip! 🙂 (You're just going to love Stanford, too). I've been playing around using the ITA Matrix Airfare Search, but one-way LA/NY trips for the dates/times I need are at least $270 a pop. That's the curse of having all your interviews <3 weeks away, flying near Labor Day, and having to fly into some non-major cities.

Looks like I'm just going to have to pony up the cash. :greedy: Really hoping I get an acceptance on October 15, because I'm thrilled with all the schools I'm interviewing at and would like to end my II trail sooner rather than later...

Off topic, but I'm totally in the mood for some good ok' Chipotle. Mmmmmm

I have an interview next week in Chicago and the host program didn't contact me until less than a week before the interview to confirm the housing arrangements.

Thanks for the insight! Looks like I still have a wait. 🙂 Best of luck with your interview! It's great that you'll get to catch Chicago before the winter rolls in.

So many interviews! 🙂 Congrats everyone.

I'm jealous, @hellanutella.

Aw dude, yours will come! I got exceptionally lucky these past few weeks... so I won't be disappointed if this week gives me nothing in return. 😛 I honestly wasn't expecting to get so much feedback these past few days; it makes up for the silent treatment many of my other schools have been giving me.

Hope you get some surprise IIs this weekend!

Hello everyone! Jumping in on page 158! I've been over on the MCAT forum for about six months as I prepared for my test August 7th and am looking for a new forum to be obsessed with! Congrats to all with IIs. I had a dream last night I met an adcom member at a party and he got all excited about me and my stats. NOT going to happen, but I'm a Texas applicant and applying only to state schools. Therefore, for all you East/West coast people, you have nothing on the Gulf Coast (or at least Texas residents and our med school options?)! Anyway, waiting for my scores and prewriting secondaries. Hopefully, I'm class of 2019 too!

Join the party! Your month long wait after the exam is...1/3 over 😛

Thank you! That hadn't occurred to me. It seems like I can stand the rest of the wait a little better thinking of it that way. I know we all go through it, but this wait is hell!

Shoutout to @Copernicium on Chicago! 👍 You're cycle is gaining speed and I'm sure you're going to be inundated with even more IIs this week!

And congrats on all the other recent interview invites and new members! 😀 Hope tomorrow is yet another II-heavy Monday.
tbh I just skim all the posts about IIs now because I feel so out of the loop so..........are Monday influxes of IIs a thing? Is that the consensus?

Yes, that's how it seems! Nice start to the week.

Congrats to Copernicium!!!! That's a big deal!!!! 🙂

I watched Patch Adams as a kid and it was my favorite movie. My friend used to work with him, and he is totally an alcohol addict (and cursed a lot too!).
Yes, I loved that movie. I heard him speak once and he seemed kind of harsh in what he said. He was addressing a convention room full of community college honors students and he kept talking about money... It didn't seem to connect very well.

WOOOOOO @turayza! IS love is so, so sweet. You're going to do splendidly.

And a belated congrats to @G_Marker on VCU! Nothing better than the first II. Hope there are many more to follow – see, these penguin avatars have been working!

....and my first interview is in a week. Egad. Good luck to all those early-birds interviewing this week!

Woke up at 4pm CST (1 hr ago) in preparation for another overnight shift. Log onto SDN forums and finds it exploded in activity. Congrats to everyone with more II's! Still waiting to hear back from my other schools, but getting really pumped for my 1st interview in 10 days!!

You are going to kill that interview! 🙂

On another note, congrats @G_Marker !!!

Thanks everyone! I definitely think the penguin is working. 🙂

Good luck on your first interview @Ace Khalifa!

Aw yissssss! Congrats on the recent IIs and new members! We try to keep this thread fun and lively. 😀

Phew. Tickets finally booked. Guess who is taking two six-hour red-eyes in the coming weeks? 😴 Best of all, my free airline points covered (barely) all of my flights thus far... everything beyond this is going to be out-of-pocket, and I haven't even looked at hotels yet.

If anyone has any restaurant recommendations/attraction suggestions get at me, because I am a bit of a foodie and have about a day or two in each city before I move on to the next. I'm looking forward to this pseudo-holiday.

Thanks @joonage @No Limits @hellanutella 🙂
Definitely agreed that IS love is wonderful--very excited to get to roll out of my house and drive 20 minutes to an interview hahah.
Joonage I'm sure yours is next 😉

So many new people! Welcome to the thread and good luck everyone!

@Ace Khalifa let us know what the interview is like! 😀 Honor and glory begins...

Dang girl you saved up a lot of free airline points. It's like going on 10 mini vacations...punctuated by interviews upon which your future is riding 😛

Yup! My UG let you pay your tuition via credit card so I racked up some rather hefty points over the past few years. It's all very impressive until you realize how much money you have actually spent. o__o I was able to fly to Europe for free (twice!) using these such points. I cannot recommend enrolling in a airline rewards program enough; mine was well worth the $100 annual fee.

Ahahaha, everyone says interviews are supposed to be the funnest part of applications (short of being accepted and going to second look) so I'm going to try to keep that mindset.

Whoa that's so nice... a 2% rebate on tuition is...a lot more than I have in the bank right now
Sounds like a good mindset--and who doesn't like talking about themselves?

I'm beginning to think that there was no point in me doing quick turnaround on all my secondaries. I keep seeing people who were complete weeks after me get II's before me. Is my app really that bad? Or are they really not reviewing them in order of completion date? Not even changing my avatar to a penguin-esque Pokemon helped. 🙁

You might have an app that isn't the top 0.5% that get instantly offered interviews, but you can still have a strong app that's offered an interview in the fall and ultimately accepted.

I suspect that a relatively small cohort of "superstar" applicants are getting the lions share of super-early interviews at prestigious schools, and in the end they can only attend a single institutions.

Personally, I think I got a few VERY early interviews because someone happened to like my app/essays/"fit" (for whatever reason since I feel hella cookie cutter), but I'll have to wait on future IIs as schools pick the top 10% of applicants to interview, not just the top 0.5%. You, and many many others, are possibly in the same situation.

Patience is key. Patience is difficult.

No your app is not bad at all. Resist the urge to think like this.

It seems that some schools do not give interviews based on completion dates. @nemo123 posted in the Stanford thread that she was complete in July but didn't get an interview invite until February 😱. She was a fantastic applicant. Just goes to show you how unpredictable things could be. Just hang in there. Some schools have already seen the potential in you, I'm sure more will in time.

I second what Bovary and No Limits said.

Given the IIs you currently have, your app is undoubtably strong. Some schools look like they're reviewing apps in order of completion, but it's only been a month of actual app reviewing (and only at a subset of schools). By and large, most schools will go back through their app pile and continue to extend IIs to early apps – the info in last years' school specific threads is proof of that. In my own experience, I got an II for Vanderbilt in their second wave of invites, even though there were people who got IIs in the first wave with complete dates far after mine.

It's far, far too early to even consider loosing hope! I am sure you're going to do splendidly on your upcoming interview, too!

That's so true about completion dates. When I submitted the Buffalo secondary, they basically said they give zero consideration to the "time factor" and just review the apps in random order.

Congrats on another II btw!

Congrats @ Sunflower18 for getting another interview too!!

You guys are too awesome!

Congrats to @turayza for UW yesterday, and @hellanutella for UA today!!!! You guys are so awesome!!!

As for what @Ace Khalifa, @No Limits, and @Bovary are discussing -- I definitely see both sides, and it's hard to not feel frustrated and confused and lost about the process. I definitely go through periods of feeling just like that. But as No Limits said, if you look at some awesome applicants who got accepted to some fantastic places, many of them got IIs in the fall or early winter. It's only August. Unless you have a rejection in hand, you aren't out of the running for ANY school. It's way too early to be feeling dejected (and part of my saying that is just to convince myself. It's hard, I know.) so let's all try to keep our chins up and be positive and distract ourselves with awesome things.

@No Limits whoa that's an awesome penguin hahah thank you! 🙂

Exactly!

Congrats on another II btw!

Thank you, @No Limits! It looks like I'm going to go all over the US. :O Hope to get you those double-stuffed oreos if I bump into you on our travels.

Whoooooo @sunflower18! Glad your silence was broken, though with your stellar app things are never silent for too long. Looks like you're getting a lot of east-coast love.

Hahah thank you!!! That's so nice of you to say 🙂 I am definitely getting lots of east coast love -- looks like I might need to change my geographic allegiance at the end of the year! I'm glad you're getting to travel all over. California, Southwest, Southeast, Northeast... Look at you go!

Hey guys! I've been reading this thread for a while and feeling left out due to no IIs. Now that a couple schools have decided to spare me some love, I am joining in the party!

Congratulations to all of you on your progress, by the way - I am stalking your mdapps and marveling at your awesomeness. Here's to a successful cycle! :=|:-):

Speaking of which, does anyone have trouble with MDApps? Whenever I try to log on it says the host server is out...

In reading this thread I decided I am missing out because you guys are awesome. I hope I can bring enough bad puns jokes about slacking off adcoms 😉.
