@MDporfavor8888 you can hike to the Hollywood sign if you have time (there's a difficult route and a relatively easy one).
booked flights for a 2 week vacay to cali with the gf! open to suggestions on where to eat and see, thanks!
(going to la, disneyland, monterey, sf, yosemite, vegas, grand canyon, etc)
So not just California but the general southwest region? Hmm! I'd go to the San Diego zoo 🙂
LA: check out Griffith observatory in the evening, Santa Monica Pier/Venice Boardwalk during the day.booked flights for a 2 week vacay to cali with the gf! open to suggestions on where to eat and see, thanks!

Have fun! I RA'd for a couple years--it's a cool gig.I'm going to be an RA over the summer!Yay for not paying $3000+/summer semester for housing!
Not having to pay for housing is always nice. Also, med schools love RA's. Everyone in my class at my school who was premed and an RA got into multiple med schools, a lot of them even at top 10-20 schools too. Just something I observed lol.I'm going to be an RA over the summer!Yay for not paying $3000+/summer semester for housing!
Everything about this post is true. RA experiences are especially good for secondary applications. I'm pretty sure I used them for every single school. Not having to pay for housing is always nice. My school has faculty RA instead of students... this is weirdddd. Thanks! I was an RA this past semester as well but summer positions are more competitive because some buildings shut down. It's definitely nice to not have to worry about housing and food costs, especially because I took a very low-paying 6 month internship (I'm making less than half of what I made last year) for the summer/fall! I'm also super excited because I asked to be put with freshmen next year because they actually want advice and help!
That's mostly limited to female freshmen in my experience. An awful lot of the guys start with some notion that the school has never encountered anyone quite as bad as they are, and damn, they'll be notorious by the end of the semester. Thanks! And yet it's still better than LGA.
Ugh don't mind my brother. He's always been like that. If you don't pay him any attention he quiets down pretty quickly.@onceawolverine and @FriendlyFH declined to comment on this matter.
Why so quiet? Jeez, it's been two days! what's everyone doing if they're not providing me entertaining posts for me to read when I'm bored? Second looks?
I can give you a cookie!!!!Why so quiet? Jeez, it's been two days! what's everyone doing if they're not providing me entertaining posts for me to read when I'm bored? Second looks?
I got into Mizzou. And it was alumni reunion weekend. Naturally, I spent the weekend going hard with my friends as a way to celebrate. Why so quiet? Jeez, it's been two days! what's everyone doing if they're not providing me entertaining posts for me to read when I'm bored? Second looks?
Lol, I'll take that as a complimentOr is that Taylor swift's hand and cookie?
like if you were accepted into med school X and then med school Y steals you after april 30?Ok so I apologize if this is a dumb question, but if you were already accepted, can you still get off a wait list after April 30th?
Ah, so this adventure can continue for a few more months!like if you were accepted into med school X and then med school Y steals you after april 30?
yeah can happen.
med school Y will give med school X a heads up first, and then give you like 2 days to decide. lol.

Thank god for @gyngyn having patience and willingness to explain this. I feel like the adcoms must have to do it every yearlike if you were accepted into med school X and then med school Y steals you after april 30?

Is this Einstein?Story of my life. I'm on two wls that I care about. One of which is going to be so low yield that I don't even know how to think about it so I'm just ignoring the possibility.
Is this Einstein?
I'm writing a letter to my waitlist school (that's my super-duper number 1 :x) to send sometime later this or next week (right around the time they supposedly start reviewing waitlisted candidates)Why so quiet? Jeez, it's been two days! what's everyone doing if they're not providing me entertaining posts for me to read when I'm bored? Second looks?

At least you were told your waitlist position status. Miami doesn't tell me squat; it's hard to keep up hope sometimes when you know you weren't near the top these past few months but aren't sure if you're at the bottom of the barrel...the second tier status discouraged me so much I didn't even bother.
Yeah... only WL I was really interested in was Pitt, I was gonna write a letter, but the second tier status discouraged me so much I didn't even bother. I hate the "everything happens for a reason nonsense", but if I had gotten into Pitt, I never would have considered stepping outside of my comfort zone and moving to Chicago.
Also, the weather in the city was amazing... this weekend was the perfect time for a spring beer.

everyone is a chocolate and candy authority. All you need is love.@FriendlyFH a question. Since you are a Chocolate and Candy Authority, what are the requirements for a poor applicant like me to qualify?![]()
No, just expressing my discontent. Mizzou told me I was top 1/3 of waitlist, so I stayed and remained positive...and that ended up being fruitful.Well it's Miami. Do you expect them to be nice or something?
😛

I have nothing else to add since my original LOI said everything I wanted to about why I want to go there. Also, the waitlist has already started to move.Right, but your positivity or lack thereof has no impact on the outcome here, so might as well send in letters if you have anything interesting to add and go from there.
Again, I was told at my miami interview that the deans will let you know in the summer if they think you're going to come off the wl. That's only once it starts moving though.
I can buy you one if you come to NYC![
Can you bake more of those delicious, yummy cookies for me and the rest of the c/o 2019 gang?

Ah, so Pitt was your first choice, but you decided to say screw it and not keep waiting? I'm so torn about how to go about this still. What's crazy is that the hpwl at Einstein has started moving and some people don't even have a final decision yet!
Where in chi town will you be matriculating?
Was it from Levain bakery?I can buy you one if you come to NYC!
Random coffee shop in Gramercy Park. Was it from Levain bakery?

Yeah, I like tiers idea, it's simple and gives you an idea of where you are. Especially when a school says the majority of first tier gets in, but the second tier is pretty much a rejection except in rare years.
It was Pitt/Duke for my #1, but after the low priority wl and rejection, respectively, the SO and I had to start making moves so she could get a job etc.
I'll be a wildcat!! TBH Northwestern reminded me of Pitt in all but location (great school, huge hospital network, opportunities at public, private, and VA settings, research project, flexible curriculum), so I'm pumped.
I've been pretty vocal about my love for the Einstein community on the school specific thread, but the communication from admissions etc was somewhat frustrating.
So it goes.
Yeah, I honestly don't see a huge difference between NU and Pitt so kudos for ya! I totally agree with the making moves bit and I feel similarly since coming back from 2 months abroad and into a scramble sounds like the worst thing ever. And I know people in philly so I could probably make living arrangements and set them up before I leave. Coming back to an actual apartment would be so much better than coming back and feeling overwhelmed about everything.
And yeah, Einstein's not the best about communication. Their admissions office staff is super nice and pretty responsive to email etc.
The flip side about all of this is that I genuinely love philadelphia and think I totally lucked out with Jeff, especially due to location... keeping on pushing with other stuff feels like cheating almost haha.
Oh first world problems.
Thanks! Check out Levain if you're on the UWS, it's a really dense moist cookie... sort of like cross between fudge, brownie, cookie, and scone.Random coffee shop in Gramercy Park.
Dude, Northwestern is amazing! I know you'll love it!!
Indeed, but...New York is really awesome for the patient population too, as is Miami. They're both way more expensive though, I think.
It warms my heart knowing someone is as excited about Philadelphia as I am. I just wish I wasn't leaving 🙁 there a LOT of cool thigs coming next year! I'm jealous of everyone who's gonna be in philly next year
