Haha not sure if this is the best advice. I'd hate for one of us to be banned
She's our abusive SDN psychiatrist. I even heard she casts gunner spells on us all the way from California. Don't trust her 😀

They need to. It's been over a year.

I'm a complete noob in the gym
i'm SO ****ing pissed..i gained 2 ****ing pounds after starving myself . WHAT THE **** !!!
The key to loosing weight is exercise + dieting. If you diet, your body goes into starvation/stress mode and pumps out cortisol like crazy, which causes your body to start accumulating as much fat as possible.
Unfortunately, the only way to loose weight is exercise.
that's not true! If you maintaing a 1200 calorie diet, you should be losing weight, not gaining. and haven't you ever ehard of intermittient fasting?
i actually GAIN weight when i exercise. and drink soup. those two put me over.
Found several different research internships that I would be interested in doing this summer. Hopefully I can get into one of them!
Also...I get to shadow a neurosurgeon in the winter! 😀

I'm not taking nutrition until I'm a Junior, so I'm not gonna pretend I know. On an unrelated note, I THINK I MADE AT LEAST A B ON MY CALCULUS EXAM!
Nope. I should look it up.
But I lost like 20 lbs with just lifting + cardio + 200 fewer calories per day, so I tend to advocate this approach.
👍
Killer test? I hate it when they're like that 🙁
I wish you could teach me lifting from Texas. I'm trying to find time to cram working out into my schedule.
I wouldn't say killer killer, but it was definitely difficult. I studied 5+ hours for it, and attended the TA's review session, so I feel somewhat confident, but I'm not sure if it was A-worthy. He asked a really easy bonus question for 2 points (What is the only Great Lake to lie solely in the US?) and luckily I remembered that from APUSH (Michigan). I guess we'll see. Next Thursday, however, I have a Chemistry, Biology, and Psychology exam...so I'm gonna be major stressing all week 😱
If you head down to Texas, stop by my place and I'll definitely show you a bunch!
Eeekkk... That's going to be me next week.
Just out of curiosity, how did you study for Calc? Did you solve a lot of problems?
Hmm...I'm starting to contemplate taking calculus now. Then again, it's not like I'll be applying to HMS or any other medical school for that matter...
As he assigned the homework problems, I did those (they're optional) nightly. If I didn't understand something, I went to our undergraduate tutorial center and got someone to explain it to me. I tried doing at least 1-2 problems a day.
Yesterday, I worked out all the homework problems again (roughly 30) to make sure that I could still do them. Today, I did the homework problems again, went over all the examples given in class, and made sure I had all the formulas/derivative rules memorized. So far, we've covered differential equations, limits, and derivatives. Is that what you guys have done? I'm in Calc 1 btw
Had my calc exam today too! And I think I got them all right!! 😀
I don't have a TA for that class, nor do I have the time to go to the resource center. I did all of the problems, all at once, and I made sure to keep thinking about the problems and how I solved them as I was walking to/from class. That is the only time I have to really review things is when I'm commuting...
THAT WILL END IN FOUR DAYS WITH MY FAST FOOD JOB.
HALLELUJAH I AM QUITTING MY FAST FOOD JOB

im jelly u guys worked at a fast food place
You're not missing out on anything 🙂
That is false; yes he is. I may have had to deal with drunks and idiots who didn't understand money all day long, but I also got to concoct my own insane sammiches and steal fries from the pan any time I wanted to. Probably wouldn't know how to cook if I didn't work fast food.
But still, drunks and idiots. Kinda counterbalances the benefits
You're not missing out on anything 🙂
Hey since I have full intentions on taking a gap year, am I class of 2019? (Sophomore this year- graduated from HS a year early)
One of my friends worked at a Chinese place. He said the secret ingredient to everything was a bucket full of MSG.
Absolutely!
And welcome to our thread!
🙂 awesome. I'm in TX too btw (Baylor!)
Of course 😀
High five!
I have a question for you guys. So right now I have a job working in the ER. So great, clinical experience yay! I also need to volunteering in a clinical setting, so i'm going to do this internship that will let me rotate throughout the hospital (i'll do this later in the semester). My doctor friend who works in the ER at another hospital wants me to volunteer where he works so he will let me do some lacerations and other cool procedures with the patients (although I'm pretty sure this is illegal?) Should I do it? Or just stick to the internship?
I'm pretty sure I read that adcoms frown upon a student performing any type of medical procedure that they aren't legally qualified to do, despite their good intentions. 'Twas an ethical issue, if memory serves me right.
Any room for a non-trad among all you 18-yo freshmen? 😛
College is great, isn't it? My freshman year was probably the best year of my life. My first boyfriend, all the freedom, finally studying things I was passionate about... make the most of it, you guys, 'cause you'll never be freshmen again!
I'm a freshmore 🙂 because i'm more than a freshmen, but not just yet a sophomore 😉 (doing 5 yrs at UG)
welcome aboard!
what's your story?
Long story short, I started undergrad at 16, withdrew halfway through my junior year for health reasons, "got well" for two years, got back to school. Now a senior in college, BUT I don't have any pre-reqs, SO I'll be taking two years to do a post-bacc informally at my state university. That's the plan, anyway!
Glad to hear you're well now. I started undergrad at 16 as well 🙂

I started reading when I was three. Amidoinitright? 😉
I officially hate college. 😡
Reasons being:
-I have no friends
-My teachers don't teach at all (they just expect me to know everything)
-Everyone is either an ass, stuck-up, or just plain weird.
