Cowboys won 🙂 and I forgot I need to write a paper for tuesday

WOOH! first 100 on a test since I came to college 🙂. I know this might sound petty, but the fact that 60% of the class is failing makes it all the more sweeter.

👍

Congrats! I almost forgot this thread existed haha.

Haha. I was going to bump this thread back up like a week ago but I was too lazy to go look for it.

New 2019-er, checking in...

im currently interested in emergency medicine

Hi guys, welcome on board!

what's up my lovers?

Gas prices 🙁

Cowboys won 🙂 and I forgot I need to write a paper for tuesday

👍👍👍

We're all just so busy getting used to college, enduring our first semester, gunning for that 4.0, etc.

God, I hate genetics with a passion. 🙁 I feel so stupid because I just don't get any of it...

Wanted to take Women's Studies or CPR next semester. Too bad that would've put me at 20 credits, and I can't have over 19 credits without written permission (which is too late to get at this point). 🙁

Cant wait until Christmas break... but until then I'll be eating thanksgiving turkey with a chemistry book in my hand -.-

Just curious, what are some other people doing right now besides studying for classes? I've really only done non clinical volunteering at this point, but for next semester I think I want to do something more, since im more adjusted to college. I might try and get into a lab as an assistant or something and hopefully I can start research after I get used to it, since I don't really have any prior experience.

2019 hopeful reporting for duty.

Today in chem lab (last one of the semester), I was trying to get a thermometer through a rather small one-hole rubber stopper and, long story short, snapped it in half and cut my hand in 5 places. I'd say I'm well on my way to becoming a masterful physician. 😎

Hope everyone's first semesters are going alright. Christmas break is right around the corner. 😀

Hey! Nice to have you 🙂

Sounds like you guys were doing the calorimetry experiment?

Yeah, can't wait till break, I've got so many tests coming up 😱

For extracurriculars, I volunteered at a clinic for a short period of time, then the clinic had to get rid of all their volunteers 🙁
I've been volunteering at a center for autistic children quite a bit, and tutoring at my college. Yeah, I'm going to try and get a research assistant gig going next semester (and probably some clinical volunteering).

AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAH I GOT A 99 ON MY CHEM FINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :claps::claps::claps::banana::highfive::clap: :soexcited:

Your school has a separate grade for labs and lectures?

I couldn't find this page in forever.. I just assumed it was completely dead since we still have along way to go even though it doesn't seem like it. Anyway, how as everyones(mostly everyone's) first semester been?

It's the same situation at my school as well. Lectures and Labs are graded separately for chem, but Bio Lectures and Labs are graded together (75% lecture, 25% lab).

Judging from these posts, our year will be more competitive than ever when it comes to applying to med school D:

How are finals going for everyone else?

Somehow not feeling stressed at all... don't think thats a good thing! haha.

Lol I doubt it'll be a huge difference.

Really good; I need a 42% on my chem final to get an A 😀

All other finals were a breeze... I find that studying really hard at the beginning of the semester and giving yourself a good head start makes the rest of the semester (and finals) seem like a joke.

But...but HOW?! 😱 I had a 97 test average and a 100 quiz average in my chem class, and I calculated that I would need a 75-76 to keep my A.

Did I calculate it wrong? How did you calculate it?

Well, our final isn't worth more than a regular test, so that's probably it. We also had 4 regular exams, and the lowest one gets dropped, so after dropping the lowest one my test average became 100%, quizzes also 100%, and our labs count as 25% of the grade and I got a 97.5 average on those.

Also, just calculated again, yeah I actually need a 50% to get an A 😎

Ah, labs also count as part of your grade. Didn't realize that. Still crossing my fingers. :xf:

hearing you talk about labs and prerequisites makes me feel so left behind. 🙁 Being a psych major i decided to postpone the prerequisites until next year and spread them out a bit.

A stupid question, if I may ask...

Is this for the high school class of 2011? If so, I need to find the C/O 2020 board. xD

Yeah, but a lot of the people on here finished high school a while back as well.

1) well some people from the high school class of 2011 will be in this class
2) class of 2020 thread doesn't exist yet

Oh, alright, so if I applied for medical school in 2015, I'd be in the class of 2019? (*cough* So AP classes may have helped me find friends? *cough*)

I'm not starting a c/o 2020 board, all my boards end up dying. xD

technically if you wanted to be in the class of 2019 you would have to apply by 2014

so what classes are you guys taking next semester?

i'm thinking:

gen chem 2
molecular bio
ecology
history of roman emperors or something like that

Gen chem 2/lab
Bio 1/lab
Calc 2
Environmental Design-> blow off class

I did calc bc/chem in high school so this should be a smooth semester for me

Gen Chem 2

Cell Bio/Micro Bio

English comp. 2

Statistics

So like 16 credits.

restarting my prereqs (probably chem/calculus sequence) during the summer but this is what my spring semester looks like:

Social Psych
Abnormal Psych
Developmental Psych
Forensic Psych
Creative Writing

Looks like a lot but it's just 15 credits. Should be an easy semester...😀

No. Please not 2020. Staring this thread was pushing it to begin with.

Looks pretty good.

I'm taking somewhere between 17-18 hours of class.

Currently set to take:

BIOL 208 - Plants as Organisms / Lab
CHEM 209 - General Chemistry II
CHEM 209L - General Chemistry II Lab
MATH 154 - Finite Mathematics
ENGL 102 - English 102
MUSC 111 - Intro to Music

= 17 credits

ONE B in the only 4 credit class I was taking this semester: Bio (lectures and labs are graded together).

Bye bye 4.0. Hello 3.73. :bang:

aargh, that sucks Gigantron. this semester was light, but i need to work harder in the future. actually, what i need to do is be more efficient

Agreed, I need to be more efficient as well.

It just sucks that my school doesn't use the +/- grading system though. 👎

The thought that someone who isn't even in college yet has created an MDapps, taken a practice MCAT, and made over 1200 posts in this forum is quite terrifying IMO. I strongly urge you to go out and have fun and worry about typical 18 year old things..
