Lol, I'm taking CogPsych, emphasis is more on the psychology than neurosci, this semester. Probably the only class I'll end up liking too. My schedule consists of boring basics since my advisor told me med schools don't really favor AP credit, so I'm stuck in basic bio, chem, and phys again 🙁.

Anyway, have any of you started research? I'm in communication with a professor about that now, I'm just afraid my lower GPA may prevent me from getting the position. 🙁

Oh, okay. My class is in the psych department but looks to be entirely biology.

Well but hey! You could use those classes as opportunities to get easy As! 🙂

Yes, I am involved with research. I go to a small school, so it's really laid back in getting a position. I don't think my professor asked about my GPA.

Yeah, I took a Physio Psych class (closer neurosci than psych), so I might be of some assistance there, should you need it.

The researcher didn't specify a min GPA and he seems pretty laid back (uses his first name rather than Dr.), but if he has other really qualified applicants, I might get the boot. I would rather do research during the year so I can take summer school and boost my GPA; that's why I'm really riding on this opportunity.

My cell biology class is a bitch. Over 100 pages to memorize per quiz, and I totally just failed our first one.

How intense are the tests?! Yikes! That sounds reasonable for a test, but seems harsh for just a quiz! I hope it gets better 🙁

lol basically

There are weekly quizzes so we don't have midterms, but for the final I'll pretty much have to memorize the entire ~1000 page textbook. This class is the killer of our bio department. They claim that they want us to "immerse" ourselves in the info, not memorize it. Bullsh*t.

Jealous! We have weekly quizzes and two midterms in ochem.

Although I'm not jealous of your workload 🙁

Congrats!! That's awesome. So will you be volunteering or shadowing?

We talked about research pretty recently, maybe one page back. I am doing research. Hopefully starting my own project this year :luck:

Sometimes I feel like its really hard to keep it up. With volunteering and shadowing... I feel like there isn't enough information out there for people to readily find out about summer research positions and stuff like that. Anyone else feel this way?

Show a better quality one (i.e. the one you posted on 2018 thread).

fyi, those are actually 9+/10 victoria's secret models. if you legit rated them 6.5/10, basic biology tells me you aren't being honest

so no I won't post better pictures because there arent any.

Not as good as Miranda Kerr.

Its technically a volunteer position, but basically you are assigned to one physician who you create a custom plan with that fits around both your schedules, its including some time shadowing the physician and than helping out in any way around the department. I lucked out I heard its an amazing program.

and I am with you on the research, I am working too so its hard to get a full summer off, and it looks like most of these research programs are summer programs.... Im sure if we keep at it we will find an opportunity, you just can be afraid of rejection.

So while volunteering today I heard that a LOR from a physician is really important when applying. Any validity to this?

I think it depends on context. One from a doctor you shadowed a few times? Probably not. If you work with one extensively? Sure!!

I hope to get at least one physician LOR through scribing 👍

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccckkkkk.

Just returned to campus last night from training camp in Florida and man, it is cold in New England!

Hey guys. Update!

Classes are good. Not too exciting. Love ochem, hate physics -- no surprises there. On an unrelated note, I'm really going to try and lose weight this semester, and develop better lifestyle habits. It's hard, though! Do you guys have any tips on healthy snacking, how to conquer cravings, or how to study/be productive while working out? I know most of y'all are dudes, which means your tips don't necessarily cross over to me, but any advice is good advice. It's time to lose the weight I gained as a freshman!

Silverturtle, how was your first day?
