Thanks for the clarification.
I was getting really stressed out because of the uncertainty.
My current plan: I have a 1.5 month break in between Fall and Spring semester. I plan on studying for the MCAT during that time in junior year. Then take it right when Spring semester begins. That would leave me room to take it once more in the summer of Junior year.
What do you guys think about this?

Well we're probably not the best people to ask but, based on what I know.. You might want to aim for doing really good the first time, rather than planning on taking it twice. Personally, I'd study the summer after 2nd year and during the fall semester of junior year, then take it. Some people can study for things in a month, I just prefer to give myself a lot of breathing room.

Definitely, I'll study the summer before and fall semester. I plan on only taking it once. However, if all goes wrong, then I would still have a second opportunity with the old MCAT rather being forced into taking the MCAT2015, which I would be completely unprepared for.

Oh BTW, Class of 2019 are currently freshmen in UG right?

Most are. There are some non trads, and some juniors/seniors applying to MD/PHD programs, and others who started college way early... But for the most part, yeah.

chem exam score average: 61
got a 94 😎

Its always fun hearing people say who the $%$% got that high ass score. And in the background you can't help but laugh to yourself.

For my chem exam the average was just bad.
Avg:38
My score:63

I guess sometimes scoring a "D" on a exam isn't that bad.

At least you know your grade. I only had one exam this semester (only 5-6 weeks left, by the way), which was basically our midterm. I got an A...but an A can be anywhere from an 89-100 (the class isn't curved).

Anyway, congrats! :highfive:

Hey 2019ers! I just wanted to offer my assistance to anyone that is currently in a business related field that wants to do Medicine. Let me know if you have any questions!

So hows everyone been...it's seems like it's been forever since I posted on this thread.

I've been alright, how about you?

I've actually been beating myself up over the past couple weeks because I registered so late for this semester and due to a series of dumb events, the amount of credits I'm taking this semester is not even in the double digits. At least I got first year pre reqs done, plus I'm working as a scribe 20 hrs/wk, tutoring, and volunteering once a week.

Well, I've been fine, except for the fact that I've changed my majors from Psychology-->Biochemistry-->English---> Psychology again. Needless to say my advisor is getting pretty annoyed, Sucks about your credit problem. I had that when I first started out...I think my first semester ended with 9 credits 😳.

Wow, did you change majors by choice, or were you semi-forced to (school made you)?

Yeah I started college full time last summer and had 12 credits, then last fall I ended with about 13 or 14, and now only 9 (would have been 16 grrrrr!).

I hope this one semester doesn't look too bad in a med school's eyes-- I do have a decent amount of ECs I've stacked up on to try and cover for my stupidity.

Um, the school made me change from biochemistry to a humanities or social science major because apparently i didn't take enough/and the right science and math classes in HS. (I was a slacker) so i chose english...for like a week...since I'm already taking 4 psych classes i decided to just stick with it.
I know how you feel though, going from 17 credits ---> 9 was really stupid. it sent me back a year. But that's good about your ECs, i have like virtually none atm 😀

What would be a good non-technical humanities course to take in the fall that would help me become a better doctor?

I refuse to take pyschology.

what's wrong with psychology 🙁?

nothing wrong with pysch, just not my cup of tea. I prefer more technical things but I have to take a humanities this semester

How about an English course? Or if you don't like that an easy composition class (no studying, just tons of papers to write)

congratulations to acid-base chemistry for making me bomb my first test 🙄

Enjoying summer break. You?
New avatar, nice.

So how did everyone do this semester? I'm still waiting for my grades but I'm pretty sure my 3.9 from last semester is going to 3.4/3.5. Got sooo many Bs 🙁

That's still really good though for a freshman GPA! Gives you room to grow without haunting you in the future 🙂 I got three As and an A-, so my cGPA at this point is 3.96 and sGPA is 4.0. I am really relieved with how well this year worked out! I was very nervous, as I had practically no science exposure before college. I mean, the first time I'd ever used a microscope was bio lab this past semester. But the lack of exposure doesn't seem to be a detriment yet!

I have a question for everyone. So I'm planning on studying for the MCAT the summer after sophomore year (next year; I'm a rising sophomore now). However, I'm not sure if I should study for the MCAT like it's a full time job and just do a little volunteering and shadowing on the side, or if I should try and do research or get an actual job with studying on the side. I'd love to have tons of time so that I can totally rock the MCAT, but at the same time, the thought of spending a whole summer without doing anything that adds to my resume is not a pleasant one. What do you all think? Have you thought that far ahead? I have this problem where I plan stuff way way way in advance... I usually change my mind several times, but I like having some direction a long ways out, even if it turns out to be the wrong direction. Any thoughts would be awesome 😀

I hope everyone is having a lovely break so far! 🙂

^ I am planning on studying for MCAT next summer too. I'm thinking of taking an MCAT course, 1 science class (one of Biochem/Genetics/Human Phys) and doing a litttle bit of research while studying for MCAT. I hope to do only MCAT stuff 8-10 hours a day, but that still leaves time for other things too.

I'll be studying for the MCAT next summer as well. I'll likely be doing research ~40 hours a week, and studying for the MCAT about 3-4 hours a day, and see how it goes from there. If I see good progress I'd probably take the mcat in the Fall semester.

That's the same thing I'll be doing. I just want to get the MCAT done and over with my Fall semester of junior year because my friends who were juniors had a tough time doing their classwork and ECs, AND finding time to do their MCAT stuff during fall and spring. It just seems so much easier to do it next summer

That's still a good GPA! You can surely raise it up next semester!

So i think i belong to this thread.. Planning on graduating 2014, taking the MCAT maybe either, Summer 2013 or Spring 2014. I guess that means i would probably enter med school 2015.

Lets do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banana::banana::banana:

Welcome! Nice to meet you 🙂 2015 is so near, yet so very very far...

I think this is my place, too. I'm graduating in 2015 and hopefully matriculating that Fall. Non-trad with a hubby and two little people. Glad to be here!

Then this is your place! 🙂 Congrats on your marriage and your two little guys, too!

I am ready just so I can get it over with. I do miss my school friends though.

I will probably applying for 2019 as well--if I do not get an MS or MA in conjunction with my UG degree.

SUP Guise!!!

So... hey everybody!!! Long time, no post!! How is Organic Chemistry? And everything?

Everything is starting to move so fast!! There will be only one more October 15th before it's our turn....

I'm solidifying my plans to take the MCAT in August, so less than a year. AAAHHH! Super cool though. All of this medical stuff finally feels like it's starting to happen.

So how are all of you?? Updates??

I know... I remember being on SDN during high school and wondering if I was actually gonna go through with this and try to become a doctor... and now all the pieces are starting to fall into place.

I'm also planning on taking the MCAT next August (maybe September); it's making me really nervous 😱

I need to stay up tonight and I'm tired of coffee and energy drinks because I can't fall asleep.

Any suggestions?

Hey all! Finals soon for me. It's the final push!!! So far, it's looking like I will have two As and two A-s, but I don't want to screw it up. I hate being so close to doing well but you still have the chance to ruin everything -- so much pressure!

How are you all? Good semesters I hope? 🙂

This is why I don't drink coffee. Oh well.. if I throw up then that just means that there's room for more coffee in my stomach

I threw up for the first time in 5+ years a week ago when I drank about 3 cups of coffee right after going to the gym for an hour. Not fun, man.

Don't put the cart in front of the horse now...
