Congratulations to all the recent acceptances! Very exciting time!
Haha so true. Thanks differentiating!I've been here many times throughout the past year, the two seasons are marked by how people dress. The "wear-as-little-as possible" season and the "wear-whatever-the-heck-they-want" season. Now it's the season where people comes out in tank top, UGG boots or leather/down jacket with super shorts. I definitely have more fun dressing up on this coast, lots of ways to experiment.Definitely enjoy the weather while you're visiting! I like to say that California has two seasons - really-freaking-hot and not-so-hot - and November has kindly moved us into the latter for a short while.
Apologies in advance, because I will post this request on several threads. Now that I know that at least one med school is blind to my faults and willing to take me in, I'm planning what I'd like to do before my new chapter in life begins. I would really like to volunteer in Asia, but don't want one of the "volunteer vacation" deals. I'm not set on working in a medical setting--after all, I don't really qualify yet--but I would like to do something useful, even if the useful is, as Mother Teresa said, "not great things, but small things with great love." With the big med school expenses coming up (and all the application and interview expenses already incurred!), I can't afford to pay out to one of those programs that charges hefty fees. I would really like to hear from anyone with suggestions about non-teaching opportunities. (I am not a good teacher, and my heart really is set on Asia--East, South, whatever.) Please, please let me know if you have an idea of where I should start looking--or better yet, if you know someone I can contact personally! Thank you!
I am in LA, so much to do, but while on crutches, all I can do is to eat. Anybody here wants to eat/meet/drink/hangout/enjoy the weather with me? I can reach anywhere in the great LA region until I leave on the 20th.
Sorry for derailing the thread a bit, but my good mood has everything to do with being a confirmed member of class 2019.
Dude, my work schedule has been all over the place, but I should be free on the evening of the 18th and/or 19th. Mi coche es tu coche, so I'm game for hitting up any of the neighbourhoods.
AND I'M SO STOKED TO CHAUFFEUR @sunflower18 AROUND IN LESS THAN A WEEK.
@Boolean great idea! It's going on the ever-growing Amazon wishlist.
So random and such good idea. LolWhile you are all riding the happiness cloud of acceptances, do your future self a favor -- buy a slowcooker / crockpot! You won't have as much time as med students to make food, and slowcooking is a great way to make delicious food without much attention.

ROAD TRIP TO ANN ARBOR???Beyond excited to hang out with you!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
I came across the idea when I was studying immuno earlier and trying to cook dinner and check up on SDN every now and then. I audibly said "Wow, if only I could just cook this slower"So random and such good idea. Lol
ROAD TRIP TO ANN ARBOR???
If only they had some way of talking via video and sound over the internet, it would come in handy for you all 😛Ann Arbor is totally on the way from Oregon to Los Angeles, right???? 😉
I was actually only a 2.5 hour drive away from you earlier this week, looks like 🙁 I want to meet you! So frustrating that none of our visits have overlapped!!!

A few hours later, I now am the proud owner of a slow cooker. I figured others may benefit from my experience 😛

Yasss or when i'm at home and not jet setting around the world cuz i spent all my money applying to med schoooooolIndeed it has!!! My anonymity has been a complete bust hahaha but whatever, I'm not ashamed of what I say on here or anything 🙂

Name tags with our SDN handles!
I'm picking up sunflower from the airport with a sign of her avatar.
You can't miss her. She is a giant walking sunflower. True story.I'm picking up sunflower from the airport with a sign of her avatar.
The obvious response is to also show up with a sign, however your sign would need to have nutella on it.I just burst out laughing. Really?! That's spectacular hahaha
You're from Texas?!!!!!!!Come to Texassssss
Yes. And she's all talk. We would win. Of course I prefer team play anyway...😛I'm down for a SDN meet up this summer but who's down for a SDN Mario Kart tournament?? @sunflower18 says she's she'll beat me but I got a red shell with her name on it😛

@spockprime I'm so glad we are able to contribute to your happiness!! You're awesome and I'm so glad you're a part of our community! 🙂
Haha, idk deep down I think @sunflower18 is a hustler. She plays the warm and fuzzy role pretty well but don't be fooled. I know she's a fierce competitor on the inside. In a couple years we will see her post about how she's worried she wont do well on step 1... She will then match into a integrated plastics residency at MGH the following year lol.Yes. And she's all talk. We would win. Of course I prefer team play anyway...😛
See lol. @claduva94@claduva94 @No Limits IT'S ON.

Team play sounds great. We could play for cookies and school supplies!!
So, it wasn't that bad. This is both comforting and worrying. We shall see how this plays out.Immuno exam in T Minus 35 minutes...

Maybe a centroblast...I enjoyed immuno as an undergrad. The material was a blast.
I had an exam today too! Not in immuno though 🙁Immuno exam in T Minus 35 minutes...
How'd it go?I had an exam today too! Not in immuno though 🙁
I think it went well! I'll find out in a week. It's a class that uses a lot of differential equations so that's never fun 🙁 but I finished with more than enough time to spare! How'd it go?
Totally did not make my SDN name based on that.....but interesting nonetheless lol.Random Factoid:
In English the meaning of the name Ace is: Unity; a nickname given to one who excels. Also from the English word meaning "highest rank."
Khalifa is an Arabic honorific title meaning successor; or one who succeeds.
Congrats @Ace Khalifa on an another interview!!!!!!!!!! The dance party continues!!!![]()
Blank Space is my new anthem.Totally did not make my SDN name based on that.....but interesting nonetheless lol.
In other news, I love Taylor Swift's new album 1989!! Been listening to it non-stop all weekend when I had 3 days off from work.
My roommate has been playing it on repeat which is weird since he normally only listens to hipster/indie music. But then again, based on his past love-interests, he is into the crazies and she certainly is a little bit crazy in that video. So maybe that's it. I certainly like it better than Shake it Off.Blank Space is my new anthem.

If by "awesome" you mean "ridiculous," then yes, I agree lol.Omg isn't it so catchy?? And the music video is awesome too!!
