class rank and your preclinical grades?

so i've read that the preclinical grades matter very little for residency. however, i was wondering, how do you find out if (or how much) those grades factor into class rank or AOA status? could i simply call the school and they would tell me? and does class rank determine AOA status?

lastly, is there any way to find out clinical rankings of schools or places that give good LORs? that seems like the determining factor in getting good residencies.
