On AADSAS, I heard that you list classes that you plan on taking. Right now, I am a third year and I have basically almost everything done(most upper div like micro, molecular, genetics, biochem). But on my apps, I plan on putting classes like anatomy, immunology, etc. just so they don't think I am lazy. What happens if I don't take these classes if I say I will. I only need like 15 units to finish. I hope that I will get accepted, and if so, I want to just take easy classes such as business and art to relax my senior year. I was wondering if anyone was in a similar situation or did the same thing. Thank you for the help.

Any school that accepts you will require that you complete all classes entered by you on your application. If you change your schedule, you must notify them and they reserve the right to change your acceptance status. The same goes for if you fail any of those classes. I agree with you it doesn't look good to put all fluff classes on your schedule, but don't overdo it.

hey, thank you for your response. how do you know what classes you will take? sometimes you change your mind or they get full. can you always log into AADSAS and change this? i'm afraid I won't have much classes to take next year. i am really ahead now. thanks!

I was in a similar situation when I applied because I had already taken so many upper div science classes that I didn't need any more for my major or for pre-reqs. I wasn't sure how hard I wanted my last 2 semesters to be and I had the same concern that you have about dental schools thinking that I was lazy. What I decided to do was make the fall semester relatively difficult and make the spring semester kind of easy. I think I only put 8-9 credits for the spring semester on AADSAS.

That was an ok plan, but make sure that you don't make the fall semester too difficult because you will be missing class for interviews. I ended up changing some of the classes that I had put on AADSAS for the spring semester and I just notified the school that I'm going to be going to and they were fine with the changes.

I think schools understand that people change their plans and you should just notify the school about changes, not AADSAS. Now if it was a pre-req that you decided not to take, then that is a whole different story. But, I think if you keep your classes relatively close to what you put on AADSAS and communicate your changes with dental schools way in advance of when it would be an issue, then you'll be fine.

I don't have personal experience with this b/c I've graduated already, but the above info is what schools said to me in their acceptance letters. I'm sure they're reasonable about schedule changes due to unexpected issues. But if you fill up your projected schedule with too many of those "heavyweight" classes, and then drop them all, well I wouldn't recommend doing that.
BTW- Some of those classes you mentioned are actually necessary prereqs at quite a few schools, so check out all the websites of schools you want. You may end up needing those classes anyways. And I agree with the above poster, make your Fall schedule light. I'm glad I was out of school b/c i couldn't imagine going to all those interviews while taking a full load of classes.

my spring grades did not come out when i was filling out the application on may 15. my spring 07, summer 07, fall 07 classes were all "in progress." i had already registerd for the summer 07 and fall 07 so i just put those in the "in progress" section. i didnt have to worry about them being full since i was already registered.

i did end up changing one of the classes for fall 07. therefore i had to change one of the "in progress" during the academic update.

once you submit you will no longer be able to change anything in your application except a few small things like e-mail.

why dont you take anatomy and immunology and the rest take the "fun" classes.

if you dont have anything else to take then you dont need to take anything since you are done.

I think the class schedule planner is so they know you have enough time to finish the required pre-requisite classes before you matriculate in fall, so as long as you have all the pre-reqs you are good. I did what rollypolly did and took four classes Fall, two classes Winter, and am going to be done thereafter. It was so I could free up my schedule in case I was only accepted to a school that had a certain pre-req requirement that no other school had. It was an unfortunate move on my part because I ended up running around to interviews and missing classes like crazy during Fall while having nothing to do Winter!
