i know that dental schools do not require specific majors, but the common majors are biochem, chem, bio, etc.

i'm interested in the classical studies, and whenever i tell people that i'm a classics major, they look at me 😕 and asked "what's classics? like classical music?"

i'm wondering what do dental schools think of people like me, majoring in something entirely different from the hardcore science, but do take all the dental school required courses. do i have to have a very strong GPA to make up for my major?

I completely support majoring in something other than bio unless you have an almost absurd passion for it.

A different major sells itself. You're doing something you are interested in, you gain time management skills while you're balancing all of the credits you have to take, and if dental isn't a fit for you, you'll have a degree in a field you can enjoy.

Interviewers love it too. If you're a bio major, they're trying to figure out why you would be better than any other bio major sitting out in the waiting room. With a unique major, you've already established that you have something that they don't, plus you can handle sciences (which is really the only thing you prove with a bio major). You could end up talking about anything but dentistry in your interview, which makes them a breeze.

With the scores becoming more and more similar across the board, you need anything that says that you will diversify their incoming class.
