Classification of classes

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No? You put the category it belongs to. Every class has to belong to something.

What classes are you thinking of?

im not talking about classifying them as biology, chemisty, math etc.

there is a drop down menu at the far right of the row that has choices like: advanced placement, AP Clep, International etc etc

i guess my first post was a bit vague. sorry 😀

Yup, you put "none" for most regular classes. I think I only had 1 class that didn't follow suit because it was in the honors program so I selected "honors" or whatnot.

Yeah, the only ones I had to choose a category for were some AP classes I brought in and my honors classes. For the vast majority of them, just left that field blank. Good luck with your app!

Hey guys, I have a question about classification of courses also so I didn't want to make a whole new thread. Below in italics is my exact email that I sent to AACOMAS when I asked them this question:

"I took a course called "Art History - Special Topics" and did poorly on it. The special topic in this class changes every year. When I took it, it was European Art. Next year, the topic will be different - it will be "Art of the 17th century". Next year, the class will also have a different number.

If I retake this course next year, with the different number and different topic, can I use this as a repeat of the first time that I took it? The university has told me they will never have the topic be Ancient Egyptian Art again. So I will have no way to replace this poor grade, unless you allow me to use the course when its topic is 17th Century Art as a replacement for it.

So to be clear, my question is: Can I replace the grade I got when the special topic was European Art with the grade that I get when I take the course when its special topic is 17th Century Art?"

(I haven't gotten a response from them yet. I did call them, but the man I talked to had difficulty speaking english so I don't know if he fully understood my question and I didn't fully understand him. He said "If it is the same name, then it counts as a repeat". I then told him that the course will be the same name (Art History - Specialt Topics), but the course number will be different. There was an awkward silence and he was obviously confused, so he told me that he would transfer my call to another representative. This representative never picked up the phone, so I am asking my question here. )

I feel as though they won't replace it since the next year's course (and every year after that) is essentially a new course, given that it will have a new course number and that it covers different "content" than the original. That's just my 2 cents, maybe someone else on here has more experience with AACOMAS replacing grades, and can chime in.

Wow really?

Maybe I should have never brought it up and just listed it as a repeat next year and hoped that they wouldn't care or notice?

Yeah I would just list it as a repeat, and if they don't think it's a repeat they'll just change it during the verification process. No harm in trying.

If they have different course numbers and they're in the same college, then they can't really be counted as a repeat since they'll obviously be different classes. If the course number stayed the same and only the topic changed, then I'd say you could get away with it.

Yeah maybe.

I also thought of a plan B now: To just find a city/community college with a European Art class and take this class there.

This can raise my gpa by .11-.14 (depending on my second grade) and community colleges charge like 70 dollars per credit hour so it'll definitely be worth it.

Hey I have a classification issue myself

I took a kinesiology course call Biomechanics. It is a course on human muscle function and muscle mechanics.

Any advise?

According to last year's AACOMAS instructions, that would go under "Other Science."

Is that what you meant?
