So I've run across multiple questions asking why the medial part of the clavicle or lateral part of the clavicle sticks up/down after a clavicle fracture (aka which muscles are involved). So far I have...

Medial part sticking up: SCM
Medial part sticking down: ? not sure if this is seen clinically ?
Lateral part sticking up: Trapezius
Lateral part sticking down: subclavius or deltoid (I'm not sure if it's one or both, but I feel like both make sense)

Please clarify!! Thanks

The only thing I've really seen is that the subclavius muscle protects the subclavian vessels and brachial plexus.

I think I came across a question about this in a qbank or somewhere...here are the notes I wrote for it:

Muscles that insert on the medial clavicle = pectoralis major, SCM, sternothyroid
Muscles that insert on the midportion of clavicle = subclavius
Muscles that insert on distal clavicle = deltoid, trapezius

The deltoid pulls inferolaterally on the clavicle, while the trapezius pulls superiomedially.

From there you can figure out which way the bone will point depending on where the fracture is located.
