i really wanted to buy some good flash cards but the store i went to only had barrons ap biology flash cards and not cliffs. I picked them up any ways. Now i am looking online to get teh cliffs ap biology flash cards. Should i go for it and not open the Barrons? I am scheduled to take the DAT in 3 weeks. And i am confused if i shoudl wait for cliffs unless they are significantly better than barrons.

Would you consider barron's flash cards to be a waste of time?

Hey, I have not used either.... but..
If you are looking to review, checkout Kaplan's flashcards and cliffs AP bio book

yeah i am actually using kaplan flash cards that came with the kaplan course i took. But just for the bio section i think there are not enough. Although kaplan flah cards are one of teh best i have come across because they have questions rather than just terms. I am also using cliffs ap bio but i would have loved to have their flash cards to cover things i missed when i went through the book (quickly). I ended up opening teh barrons pack and honestly they are ok. Nothing new pretty general. There are 500 of them. If after going through this whole stack i still feel like its not good i will definitely end up buying the cliffs ap cards. I just hope they are actually very good.

lol, I think it would be very much productive to practice more questions rather than memorize bunch of terms.

Personally, I consider flashcards a waste of time. Why?
Memorizing the definition of certain terms doesn't help me learn the material. I need to see the bigger picture. For example, just knowing that RNA Synthetase is an enzyme involved in DNA transcription wouldn't do much for me; I need to know how it plays into the entire process.
Anyways, I think it really depends on your studying method. If you like memorizing definitions then flashcards are probably useful. If you're more comfortable understanding the material, then flashcards are a waste of money and time.

I have the cliff AP biolog flash cards. There are over 1000 cards with some blank ones that you can add somethings onto. Personally I think they are great for taking with you when you go shopping or doing something where you might stand around for a few minutes. They are divided up into the chapters of Cliffs book with not only definitions but processes also. If you use them right I think they can benifit one greatly.

An example is RuBP:
-The five carbon compound used to incorporate CO2 into an organic compound in first step of calvin cycle
-Regenerated in the last step of the Calvin Cycle.

What I do is take the blank cards and outline in bullet points a process from cliffs like cell respiration with glycolysis and the calvin cycle. Then the rest of what the book says minus the pictures are pretty much on the flash cards.

Hope this helped...

wow that was really helpful. They sound very useful. Yes most likely i will get them and try to get through 1000 of them 😳

I have already gone over details and the whole picture of diffrent things in biology. I have used cliffs ap biology kaplan bb and princeton gre biology. Flash cards i feel are a great way for me to just pick something random up from a section and see what i know or remember about it.

Thanks a lot.

oh for anyone interested, now that i have gone through the full stack of 500 ap biology barrons cards i feel they were quite useful too. I came across plenty of random terms which i did not remember. A few examples would be

transition fossils
balanced polymorphism
punctuated equilibrium vs gradualism
typhlosole
phytochrome
p-53gene

I think they were helpful, but only in addition to your own studying. You must go over some book in detail and then use these cards.

well i just thought this may be useful to some. 😀👍👍
