Hi all, one question. I know the prevailing belief is that if you can smell a patient it is considered medical experience. I started volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house in my hometown and was wondering if it still applies?

I guess I see patients sometimes but normally just their family members.

Thanks

I'd say that if you see patients at all or are typically working in a clinical/medical setting it would be considered a medical experience. Even if you mostly interact with the families, they are still there for medical reasons and the skills you learn from interacting with them is something you will utilize regularly as a physician.

That counts! Kudos to you too!
