Does anyone have any info about this profession? From what I gather, it requires an M.D., specialization in any field, then a one year fellowship with the American Board of Medical Geneticists (ABMG).

Any thoughts on which specializations are best, and which schools are most conducive to such career plans? Or does it not matter?

Thanks,

C.

Most fellowships in medical genetics are at least 2 years long. They can be longer though if they require a lot of research. In terms of what field to enter the fellowship from, I think peds or ob/gyn make the most sense.
However, I did recently meet a pathologist at UCLA that had done a fellowship in medical genetics. I thought that was kind of a cool way for a pathologist to incorporate some patient care into their practice. But, peds is probably the most practical.

hey brougham,
i have thought about combining those two fields exactly. can you tell me anything more about this person, such as how they divide their practice? maybe i could even get a name from you. thanks for any info.
